Most of those players have missed recent practices with injuries. Martinez is presumably being managed as he returns from a torn ACL.
The NFL should adopt my rule immediately and exercise a veto against punting in preseason games. What's the difference? Even if you're at your own 2 and it's 4th and 22, you should be forced to go for the first down. You don't make it? Tough shit. What are we preserving here? You're allowed to run your punt team onto the field but the play must be a fake. If your defense easily gets scored on ... Oh well.

Some players are trying to make the team on special teams.
vs ones that it's clear are in it for the paycheck. They didn't mention guys specifically. You can tell Golladay is one of those guys that don't give a shit. As long as the check clears he's cool with it. If we can't find a WR to start that cares more than him by mid season it's bad.

It shows up really bad in the all-22 from last year.
There are plays where he is walking to the sideline before they are over.
Running plays where he just checks out. Alligator arms...
I can't remember a Giant I have disliked this much.
but has zero football IQ. He doesnt anticipate anything, has zero instincts for the position. He has to see a guy open to throw it. Where good qbs throw guys open or anticipate.

He is not it at QB.
On the 2nd down sack you have to know where the RB is and throw it at his feet instead of taking the sack. Maybe a bit nit picky but get rid of the ball and don't set yourself up for 3rd and forever. Jones struggles to make little moves like that.
70 yds in first quarter a good run for a First down and should have had a passing TD and here’s shit. How about the OL can’t run block and our receivers suck.

yes.. he's a see it/throw it QB. So frustrating.
could come from the first couple of reads usually being covered.
Watching on NFL Network and I think they are fine. If you are looking for them to spend a bunch of time analyzing the Giants you aren’t going to get that.
no pass rush, no defensive backfield, undisciplined players getting flags......inept offense, giving up sacks, dropping passes....settling for field goals........and Joe judge on the field. what has changed?

But the way Robinson is play8mg, he should really be silently walking back to the huddle after every play. Odd to taunt when the other team is picking you apart easily.
JFC guys, its the 1st preseason game. Anyway yeah I get why Bradberry is cut but CB is fucked without him. Kinda wish we found a way to keep him.
But Robinson will likely improve. He's definitely not a starting outside CB now, but I think he'll improve and end up being somewhere from slightly below average to serviceable by the end of the year.
too early to draw conclusions about Robinson. Seriously. It's the first preseason game, and as someone noted, Thornton broke the combine record for the 40.
Camp reports said the D has been solid. With this roster, one really can’t gauge the veracity of these reports until they line up against teams in games. And, usually, that means better rosters. And the results predictably go against those camp reports.
RE: didn't somebody earlier asked for more Colin Johnson?

I agree. They also aren’t giving much safety help tonight over the top, easy mismatch to have your fastest guy run go routes with. Vet like Hoyer throwing the ball

The backup wasn’t a 6th overall pick who the team has to decide if they’re going to pay $30 million. I don’t care what people think of Tyrod he’s not the future.
had that punch out fumble might be that the giants defenders don't use that technique in practice and they should institute that protocol.....its effective.
You think it’s ok to mock posters positivity. It’s refreshing to read.
If Daniel Jones against backups is something positive for you, enjoy it.
It’s actually more concerning to me. If he can do ok against 2s in a preseason game, but struggles against the 1s in practice one can reasonably assume that “adjusting to the system” isn’t a reason for the struggles so far this summer.

What else did you want him to do the first drive? He made every throw and our big time WR dropped a TD. I don’t care if it’s against 1s or 2s - he did make the throws. Shitting on him because it was against some back ups just shows he can’t do right by you.
Kee on rockin man. Maybe Jones should have caught the ball Golladay dropped.

is a big possession WR with a large catch radius who has difficulty separating against starting CBs. Like Golladay. The difference is that he's much cheaper.

Against backups, but good for him for doing so, and at this rate, they'll probably keep him.
looks so much better than the 2 joker backups we had last year
Backups? Taylor looks better than our starting QB lol. I’m not saying he’s great, but if he keeps this up it’s going to look pretty stupid starting Lloyd Christmas.
Unless there’s 2 number 23’s, Brightwell made the tackle
bad throws to wide open people - under threw both.
huh??
What huh - Johnson was 5 yards open and Taylor threw low and behind. Next play the RB was wide open and he threw it so low he had to go down to get it. Both plays had plenty of open space that was nullified by low and behind passes to open receivers.
The late pass up the sideline that bounced off both hands of the DB.
And the pass fired high that just happened to deflect to a Giant rather than a Patriot.
Collins should have had that. A quality NFL WR pulls that in.
You sound more desperate than those making excuses for Daniel Jones. Taylor is what he is. He is a Colt McCoy/Case Keenum type who won’t lose you games you should have won. He also won’t win you games either.

Taylor is not a star by any means, but it’s nice to see a QB that appears to have some kind of confidence out there and is aware of his surroundings.

I thought the situation called for a high throw and that's what Taylor threw. My guess is Collins would say he should have pulled it in.
I'm not dying on some hill to make a larger point about Taylor. Just giving an opinion on that one play.

He is facing grocery baggers and is bailed out by WR’s with large catch radiuses

He’s playing against the same guys Jones did lol. Without the starting offensive line. Jones played against backups too.
the point is, if Jones can't outplay Taylor, clearly, and if Taylor is no better than the 26th best QB in the league, or worse, then...
Taylor moves very well. I would say more decisive. He is not as accurate all the time as people say. Several low or behind the WRs. Even the last play of the half - Corbin was wide open 10 yards in front of him and it is delivered knee high. But he is clearly a severe upgrade over the last three or four backups.
with a new scheme, several new players and rookies and staff. Giants are also playing a lot of vanilla football too. I anticipated sloppy ball. There have been some good individual performances and that’s what I focus on in these pre-season games.
C Johnson
Brightwell
Barkley
Beavers
Ezeudu
All looked pretty good to me
new offensive and defensive systems, new coaching staff. They haven't looked disorganized and the execution has been fair. This team has a Looog way to go to become a good one. They don't look horrible for first game. Can't expect much more.
he is conservative. Risk averse. Can move well and extend plays a bit. Doesn't turn the ball over. But really can't sling it with the big boys. He's not the guy you need for a high-powered offense.

DJ was 6 for 10 69 yards. It should have been 7-10 and a TD. Oh, and it's preseason game one....
This is not a bad way to begin. I don’t like Taylor’s ball in placement and Robinson needs to play under control every snap, but the OL has done a good job and all three RBs have run well. DJ looked sharp and I like what Foster and James can do as WRs.
Y’all keep thinking Taylor is going to start over DJ, it’s not going to happen. He was brought in as the backup and that’s what he shall remain throughout the season unless DJ gets hurt. Accept it and move on, stop beating a dead horse with wishful thinking, it’s not going to happen, end of story

Lol I guess so, nice job
RE: Still don't understand why there's pushback against a Giants QB
It is not against Tyrod. It is the relentless diatribes on Jones. He was fine while in. Taylor has been just a good and bad. He looks smoother but certainly makes bad throws as often as good ones. Too early to start the crap that we all have to weed through.
Daniel can't zip it into a tight window like Tyrod can... so he's scared to throw it and he holds onto the football for way too long.
DJ zipped it right in there to our best WR...and it got dropped...on the 2 yard line..
True. He missed a couple easy ones also and held the ball too long a couple times instead of trying to make a play. Tyrod did the opposite IMO. Good and bad from both. Neither looked great honestly, I just think Tyrod might fit the offense better. Quick passing game. Get the ball to Toney, Wandale, Saquon and Shep when he gets back. Golladay is shot.
and Gilbert are UDFA rookies in their first preseason game. Too early to draw any conclusions about them. I'd also rather keep them than a veteran if they show anything. This is a rebuilding year.
offensive execution hasn't been bad at all. Speaks volumes about the coaching. Players are prepared and know what they are supposed to do. refreshing!!
I can’t remember when our Oline back ups looked competent in pre-season. It’s been a while. I recall our back up QBs running for their lives in pre-season games previously. Anyway, we’ll see, as there’s still 2 more games to see them in action.

sarcasm. Guys are where they are supposed to be on defense. General execution on offense doesn't look bad. All evidence of competent coaching. this team still needs a lot of talent, but this coaching staff may get a hell of lot more out of what we do have, than has been the case for quite awhile.
But this is the most I have seen this team compete. Does not matter 1st, 2nd or 3rd stringers. They are playing hard, effort and technique is there. Coaching is showing up with there play.
Is this team gets the right personnel on the field, gets lined up correctly, plays hard, and seems to know what to do. Sure there have plenty of physical errors from young players that you would expect, but this looks so much different than the Joe Judge teams.
Small sample size but Daboll already seems like he has moved the team forward simply by having them look competent.
are probably KT, Robinson, Golladay, James, Johnson, and Slayton. The problem with that group is that only Slayton has any deep speed, and he has drop issues. Shepard should stay on the PUP for now.

Isn't James exceptionally fast?
RE: Who has been most disappointing Giant player tonight?
Different kettle of fish because my expectations were higher, but Bellinger did not impress, bad hold and can't hold his blocks. He did catch and hold a pass.

At his height, his speed is more horizontal than vertical. But horizontal speed is what Kafka and Daboll seem to want to emphasize.

James (4.34) and KT (4.39) are capable of beating defenses downfield.

I'd sub Foster for Golladay. ;)
In a perfect world I would as well, unless I found someone better on the waiver wire after final cuts. But Golladay's contract makes him impossible to cut this year. Foster of course could replace Slayton if the latter is traded or cut.
Looks weirder than I assumed it would be since his lower body and general frame is thinner than I thought, even knowing it was something to wonder about pre-draft.
This has very little bearing on his future but my first impression of how he looks aesthetically is a little disappointed. I was one of those "5" is ok/fine guys but now I wish dude picked 58/90 or some double digit number.
As a couple posters mentioned, Bredeson looked pretty comfortable at C, calling out assignments and holding his own, albeit vs 2nds and 3rds. Never understood why he didn't get work at C last year, Price was so god awful.
Not much mentioned here tonight is that Ezeudu got a ton of work at LG: to me he showed good balance and good feet and good movement to get to 2nd level.
He was hit with a hold, warranted imo: he had the DT tied up well, but then when the pocket was collapsing from the right side and Taylor moved left, the DT tried to separate to go at QB and Ezeudu kept his hold and arms went outside the DT's shoulders.
Flott looks fluid, but he showed inexperience on the fly down the far sideline when he did not turn his head to locate the ball. Hopefully that comes.
has the same problem as Jones. Constantly doesn't see the whole field. His value right now is the help he provides to the other QBs, but I'm fine cutting him for a waiver wire pickup at another position. I agree we can likely get him through to the PS.
Section, if it’s a toe it could be turf toe, which could keep him out for a while!
Yep, probably is. Could be that if it was a regular game he stays in..
Guys will be nicked up in preseason... there will be plenty of OL released in about two weeks.
Longest run was 17 yards. Just a lot of solid gains, not a bunch of lost yards.
As a team they have 27 carries for 130 and a TD. 4.8 YPC. I haven’t seen them put up a team rushing stat line like that in preseason or regular season in a very long time.

Why dress him. I cannot understand this guy taking a roster spot
They need someone in camp to throw the 3rd string reps. He'll probably be put on the PS but given Jones and Taylor's injury history he'll eventually need to be activated.
And I think we all know Davis Webb is not taking this team down the field here. But I am looking forward for all the near picks he will try and force to Doss.
Why dress him. I cannot understand this guy taking a roster spot
He is a training camp arm. Teams usually have 4 QBs. Webb is out there eating minutes like the last pitcher in the BP comes in to the game in a blowout
Roy Mbaeteka also in at left tackle. As OL coach Bobby Johnson pointed out this week, the Nigerian has worn football pads literally four times in his life. So this could be interesting.
They are competing. The OL looks solid no matter who is in there. The RB’s have holes to run through. The QB’s have time to go through progressions. I give this team and their coaches an A for preparation band effort tonight. This is all you can ask for a team play hard and make plays.

Well Davis Webb put that back in my face. Kudos, buddy!
1) we have to have more than 2 QB's in camp so it isn't Webb over another OL.
2) Do not overreact to plays made or not made in a pre-season game, especially when we have no idea what coaches wanted players to do (ie Thibs etc).
3) we need a true TE even with the position marginalized in Dabolls offense
4) dB's have been victimized by short throws but still need to stop those throws.
5) RB's look pretty good..
6) we will get an OL off waivers before season starts.

Bad route. Bad release. Bad everything by Golladay.
He was open, just dropped the 1st down pass. That cannot be done..
Guess they will sit now.

With the drop!
Cut him and use his roster spot to someone who can contribute at least on special teams.
Maybe. It's mostly our ones versus all twos for the Pats. So, any NFL ones should be able to move the ball at a high rate.
At least our ones scored. But KG is just a drive killer...

You said I was 'insufferable' yesterday for one post and no one even agreed with you.
He's been banged up alot since he's been here. How is that on me?
It shows up really bad in the all-22 from last year.
There are plays where he is walking to the sideline before they are over.
Running plays where he just checks out. Alligator arms...
I can't remember a Giant I have disliked this much.
He's certainly up there.

Not so good on punt coverage.
Easily pushed aside for long return.
Ezeudu and Hamilton… yeesh
He is not it at QB.
Just can’t get beat to the outside on a down block like that. Growing pains.

On the 2nd down sack you have to know where the RB is and throw it at his feet instead of taking the sack. Maybe a bit nit picky but get rid of the ball and don't set yourself up for 3rd and forever. Jones struggles to make little moves like that.
Thank you :-)

Watching on NFL Network and I think they are fine. If you are looking for them to spend a bunch of time analyzing the Giants you aren’t going to get that.
our roster is horrible...we aren't even outplaying there backups with our starters.

Thought he was having a solid camp?
But Robinson will likely improve. He's definitely not a starting outside CB now, but I think he'll improve and end up being somewhere from slightly below average to serviceable by the end of the year.
The former

I did, but to be fair the defender just punched that thing perfectly.

Camp reports said the D has been solid. With this roster, one really can’t gauge the veracity of these reports until they line up against teams in games. And, usually, that means better rosters. And the results predictably go against those camp reports.
That was me. At least he made a play. I still say more CJ.
Then run gassers.

OLB Ximines, Smith
ILB Beavers, McFadden
CB Flott, Gilbert, Dorsey (slot)

I posted the OL on that series above.
I agree. They also aren’t giving much safety help tonight over the top, easy mismatch to have your fastest guy run go routes with. Vet like Hoyer throwing the ball

Jones didn’t look bad tonight. Granted, he was facing the Pats backup D.

I thought the situation called for a high throw and that's what Taylor threw. My guess is Collins would say he should have pulled it in.

Taylor is credited as a guy who's accurate and poised in the pocket.
But he had several passes that was wildly underthrown. Several INTs against a defense that isn't playing 3rd stringers.

Taylor does not have same arm strength. Didn't even try to reach the end zone when that was the only play to make.
He could have had four INTs. Another too high/hard pass that was deflected.
Then a deflection off the DL's helmet. Ball goes twenty feet in the air but somehow no one else on defense can track it down.
If Taylor does somehow get the starting job, his honeymoon will be very short.

At his height, his speed is more horizontal than vertical. But horizontal speed is what Kafka and Daboll seem to want to emphasize.
James (4.34) and KT (4.39) are capable of beating defenses downfield.

In a perfect world I would as well, unless I found someone better on the waiver wire after final cuts. But Golladay's contract makes him impossible to cut this year. Foster of course could replace Slayton if the latter is traded or cut.
This has very little bearing on his future but my first impression of how he looks aesthetically is a little disappointed. I was one of those "5" is ok/fine guys but now I wish dude picked 58/90 or some double digit number.

So Lemieux, Douglas, and Flott are hurt. At least Bredeson has looked decent.
NFL is the worst.
The tackler drove the QB into the turf. That’s a penalty as the rule is written.
Just sucked tonight.
An INT just waiting to happen.
Awful
Does Webb know there are other eligible receivers on the field? He could have 3 or 4 picks already.

I though that they changed the rule on roughing the passer...?
Prior regimes would pinch the lines and there's no where to run.
Daboll/Kafka spreads it out.
Webb struggling this drive.
2 guys with minor injuries is not dropping like flies..toe and ankle.

Except he didn’t. That was a terrible call.
Has good size and shows toughness. He is a keeper.
Funny because I thought he was terrible at guard last year.

Use the roster spot for another Olineman! They’re dropping like flies.

We don’t know how severe these injuries are yet either.

Toe and ankle and Douglas is not making the team..
Did nothing
Well done..
He did.....he got the tackle to jump and forced a false start, but that’s the only significant contribution he had. He only played a few series.

Section, if it’s a toe it could be turf toe, which could keep him out for a while!

They changed a couple of things.
You can hit the QB in the head now and it's not an automatic penalty.
Also more leeway in hitting the QB in the legs.
But no change as far as driving the QB to the ground.
I would agree that play that drew a flag was a questionable application of that principle.

+2.

Yep, probably is. Could be that if it was a regular game he stays in..
Guys will be nicked up in preseason... there will be plenty of OL released in about two weeks.
I’d cut him and keep RB Corbin
As a team they have 27 carries for 130 and a TD. 4.8 YPC. I haven’t seen them put up a team rushing stat line like that in preseason or regular season in a very long time.
Heslep getting picked on.

Exactly! And add in good pass blocking!
Not as much as last year.
He may retire and Daboll will add him to the staff.
An adult baby? Lol
Unfortunately, you're right. Evans got beat as well. Looks like the PS at best for both.
They need someone in camp to throw the 3rd string reps. He'll probably be put on the PS but given Jones and Taylor's injury history he'll eventually need to be activated.
Having quite a night!
He is a training camp arm. Teams usually have 4 QBs. Webb is out there eating minutes like the last pitcher in the BP comes in to the game in a blowout
So is Williams
So is Williams
All the RBs seem to have pep and quickness. I like what I see in Corbin.

Roy Mbaeteka also in at left tackle. As OL coach Bobby Johnson pointed out this week, the Nigerian has worn football pads literally four times in his life. So this could be interesting.
Well Davis Webb put that back in my face. Kudos, buddy!
DBs looked shaky - but we knew that
LBs look like they may have some better talent.
