Stanton still not ready to run the bases. So, again the Yankees are really not being terribly honest about an injury. Hopefully he's back soon.
German in Fenway isn't what ya want on a Friday night.
But, Eovaldi has been very bad lately and the Yankees need to capitalize.
Win a damn game.
Crazy.
Crazy.
Brutal, especially after gutting their farm for Soto who I’m skeptical they will be able to keep after his contract is up.
Only took about 3 pitches for Judge to have a low ball called strike on him, but he still managed to work a walk.
Nobody beats him. Glad he's back.
1-0.
This is the correct way to do things....heavy doses of criticism lead to good nights.
Oy. I'd say move him down in the order, but there aren't a whole lot of guys under him to move up.
Trevino probably should too at this point.
Crazy.
How you get fired in your day off??!?!!
Quote:
Wow. Tatis Jr. just got clipped for PED's. 80 games. Done for the year + postseason and the start of next year.
Crazy.

Stanton is obviously much closer (I think...) and will ideally reduce the number of Hicks AB's we're being forced to endure.
46 HR. 100 RBI.
That is absurd. Absolutely absurd.
Correct. We can bitch about the contract 6 years from now.

This is probably going to be the best season Aaron Judge ever has as a pro, but I don't give a shit. They can't let him go. If this dude is wearing anything but pinstripes next year, the Yankees have massively fucked up.

Yep....closing in on Bonds record season
I feel rather strongly that they cannot give him a 10 year deal. However, if they’re going to name him Captain if he stays (which shows his importance to the franchise), then they really must do whatever it takes to keep him. I’ve already said I’d make him the highest paid position player by AAV.

I agree that the years are the only potentially problematic part - 10 years would make me uneasy too. I'd still do it, but I'd grit my teeth way more than 7-8 years with the AAV pumped up.
Toronto getting crushed by the Guardians BTW... 8-0.
That’s just how it works.
Trevino and Matt Carpenter both have made such a difference for the '22 Yanks and both guys were players that Texas basically saw as disposable.
That's why the Rangers have been a joke for 5+ years now. They clearly don't evaluate their talent well and then make reactionary signings like Semien (and to a lesser degree, Seager) and still don't go anywhere.
Not sure why they didn't deal Martin Perez. He's a FA after this year.
2-1 on a Martinez RBI single. German has to stop the damage there.

All IKF has to do is let the ball take the glove to the bag. And instead he catches it up and try’s bringing it back. That was on him not Judge
Quote:
Surprised Verdugo tested Judge there. Almost got nailed. IKF might have had a shot with a better tag, but I think Judge might have taken one extra step before he unloaded.

No actually it was on Judge - he was surprised Verdugo went and took an extra step to get it in.
Nice job by German to keep it to 1, though. He's pitching well enough - it's a shame we haven't done more damage against Eovaldi, but I knew this would probably happen because he's been so bad his prior 5 starts.
Classic "that's baseball" shit.
If the guy had a decent slider or even a cutter, he'd be so much better. All of his pitches are north/south. His curve doesn't really sweep much. There's just no putaway pitch.
Do not jinx him...
Even more, after having him up near 50 pitches through just 2 frames. And now here he is, still going in the 6th because we couldn't deliver a knockout blow.
The Boston bullpen is horrid. Gotta get in there.
looking for 96 mph heater....
This doesn't make me feel great.
Michael King was lost for the year about 3 weeks ago, IIRC.. and he's still 4th among all MLB relievers in fWAR. Only Diaz, Helsley and Devin Williams are ahead of him now.
Such a devastating loss. He would be in this game right now.

1 run lead and we need Chapman and presumably Holmes to get 6 outs.

And we're off! 2 quick outs...
Honestly, Chapman has looked a lot better recently. Holmes might only be one more shaky appearance away from ceding save opps.
Hopefully he's got it tonight.

Chapman seems to be rounding into shape and finding his groove. If he’s close to the old Chapman that would be a huge plus for this team. I wasn’t counting on anything from him but he’s showing me something recently.

Agree. I've actually become slightly more worried about Holmes, honestly. Chapman looks like he's figured it out a bit.
Getting Devers after a wild one was huge. But now he's lost the zone again against Xander.
As the ump misses the strike
Yep, he's aiming it. He just doesn't look like he knows where the sinker is going. He was dotting the corners when he was at his best. Has to keep the ball around the strike zone - hitters aren't going to square it up much.
He fucking blows.
With zero bullpen
More like winning run on 3rd one out. Good luck.
This is gonna be the first series the Sox win vs AL EAST opponents.
Boone's MO. One batter too long rather than one batter too short.
So brutal to watch.

It was clear to anyone with eyes he doesn’t have it.

He has NO feel for the game. He prob said oh holmes has good numbers vs this guy. Lets leave him in even if he cant find zone LOL.
Boone sucks
A month ago this would have been heresy..

Completely lost. Chapman needs to get his spot back

Baseball is a streaky game
Peralta has balls. I'll give him that
Agreed. He may become the closer by playoff time, but right now he needs to be taken out of the prime time roles.
The best is when he mixes up high/low and inside/outside
I saw a gif recently that someone posted in relation to the yankees and it was perfect - it was like.. three bars with sliders in each one and I think they were
"offense," "starting pitching," "bullpen"
The animation was such that when one or two bars were "on," the other one was off. Then when that one went on, another one went off.
It feels like aside from the first half of this year, that has been the case for the last 4-5 years. Pitch really well, don't hit. Score a bunch of runs, can't hold a lead. Low scoring game, bullpen blows it.
Ugh... Rizzo just laced one and got robbed. Can't catch a break right now. Locastro might have scored if that got past Hosmer.
Quote:
ball three to Judge was 6 inches outside and he says just misses...he does this a lot.

Yes, that is a hoot....
K
Inning basically over..no shot Torres gets a hit with his struggles
Yeah last time or time - IIRC.
Not sure what the conversations were or how close it got, but Torres as a centerpiece in a deal for Lopez + calling Peraza up to play 2B probably would have made this a better team.
That's almost hard to do.
A runner on 2nd with 0 out seven consecutive times... no runs.
Doesn’t look good
8 of 9
8 of 9
A joy to behold for some -- many, actually.
Almost all of Cashman's deadline pickups are just not getting it done from Benintendi to Trivino....
To perform like that against Eovaldi when he had a 7+ ERA in his past 5 starts and was in jams early on needing nearly 50 pitches to get through just 2 innings and then somehow letting him navigate through 6... just inexcusable.
Something has to change.

Boones worst manager in baseball
That would be a 2-7 road trip.
A Boston sweep capped off with an ESPN Sunday Night beat down would just put the cherry on top of this shit sundae.
It is just ridiculous at this point, this team wont win shit in the post season with Boone as manager
Should have traded Torres at the deadline, as usual Cashman holds onto a guy for too long. Good luck getting Lopez this offseason now.
Obviously I want a WS but the 2nd best outcome? Probably an ALDS loss so they finally move on from Cashman & Boone. Long overdue.
I would call up Peraza, Schmidt, and Marinaccio at minimum.
W/o Stanton and Carpenter this team is cooked. May still be b/c the bullpen is a mess. SP I'm actually confident in.

Right now it doesn’t matter who the manager is. You aren’t winning when you don’t have a bullpen that can hold a lead late in games. Most playoff games are close. You need a solid pen to win in October. Right now, this bullpen is atrocious.
We're back to zero situational hitting and a bullpen that isn't holding leads.
Stanton's bat is missed.
This team was finding every way to win the first few months, and now they're doing the opposite. I guess it's better for this to happen now than in September, but things probably won't just magically flip without some adjustments.
Holmes needs some lower leverage spots right now. Marinaccio absolutely has to be back up as soon as he's eligible.

I really don't understand why they won't call up Peraza. It feels like 80% of the lineup gives you nothing, what do you have to lose?
Btw, DJ deserves criticism for his hitting with RISP. His BA is .190
Judge, Carpenter, Trevino, IKF and Stanton hit well with RISP. Everyone else stinks.

Agree 100%. Torres has sucked since the all star break and Holmes should be used in the 6th if we’re up by 10.

The problem with Boone is that if you looked solely at the lineup, the 9th was better for Chapman than the 8th. But to be honest, this was the last straw for Clay Holmes. These losses are back breaking and he just gives away base runners with walks and HBPs. He can no longer pitch anything other than mop up until he gets his shit straight.
When you’re playing badly, you don’t get any luck. Rizzo’s laser is caught and Pham gets one through the IF in extras.
dismal stretch with no relief in sight.
Still a 10-game lead, but who really thinks that's safe anymore?
in the 9th, when Holmes walks Bogey, then goes 2-0 on Verdugo, get out there and talk to him then, don't wait until he walks the guy to talk to him...this is where Boone just doesn't have a feel for the game. It doesn't matter that Peralta cleaned up the mess that inning, get your ass out there and talk to him.
You know Holmes has been struggling big time, get out there!
First things first, remove Holmes, he is costing them games.
Glad Boone went to Effross in the 9th.
Chapman has looked so much better lately. I have a feeling he's going to be getting the next save opportunity when he's available (probably won't pitch tonight after b2b)
Hopefully a series win tonight can get these guys back on track.

All hail one IKF, it's a win.
