Confused? That’s the least of his problems in calling a game even though it’s definitely a problem. His biggest problem and has been for years is he is the absolute worst at actually describing the action on the field.
He’s supposed to be our eyes into the game and yet he calls it like we can actually see what’s happening. He’s on the damn radio and not tv. He’s terrible, had been for years and I can’t wait til he’s gone. He’s way way past his expiration date, and I don’t need a monitor in my booth to see it. ( One of his favorite excuses when he messes up)

Sterling does radio play by play and half the time he doesn't know what's going on and often gets the calls wrong. If you're in the car and listening on the radio you are reliant on him to know whats going on. It's unacceptable to have a radio play by play guy who regularly calls home runs outs or doubles or vice versa. He is not capable of doing his job at this point, thats why I hate him

Bullshit! I grew up listening to Phil and he was completely different than Sterling. He was an entertaining character no doubt but at least he knew how to describe the action on the field to his radio listeners. Plus he never took himself too seriously and could laugh at himself.

It’s his go to, and in all the years I’ve had to listen to him I’ve never heard him admit he messed up. He’s a pompous jerk when it comes to stuff like that. It’s never his fault.

I grew up with a transistor radio under my pillow and love sports on the radio. It was a big part of my being into sports, and Sterling can’t hold a candle to the greats when it comes to flow of the games and being the eyes for listeners.
This has happened multiple times. Driving in the car for 15 minutes listening to the Yankee game and not hearing the score once. Have no idea who is winning and by how much. Stirling is the worst radio announcer I have ever heard and Waldman is not much better at what she does either which is a shame,e because she is a smart hardworking woman. She was good on WFAN.
And comparing Stirling to Rizzuto is like comparing Daniel Jones to Eli. Rizzuto had his shtick but he knew what was going on and was interesting. Plus, most of the time, he was not the play by play. Stirling was bad when he could see what was happening. He’s way beyond bad now.
it isn’t that serious. I enjoy listening to baseball on the radio, particularly sterling since yankee baseball is one of my earliest childhood memories with my grandfather. He loved sterling, he loved fat mike. Both kinda became cartoons and he/we still enjoyed them. Getting a call wrong and blaming it on the monitor is funny to me, it’s not life and death.

I feel the same way. Sterling's HR calls always make me smile, no matter how silly.
