technically i jinx'd first so i think you're clear.
they announced Guillorme as a groin injury with imaging tomorrow. both of them should sit for a week.

Because Vientos sucks defensively at third base, and apparently you're the only one who doesn't know that
YES! That is a big bonus if it comes down to it. He can't be available tomorrow.
Phillies @ Mets Recap - 8/14/22 - ( New Window )
of the 39, 6 are at home vs. WAS, 5 vs. MIA, 7 vs. PIT (4 home), 3 at home vs. CHC and 4 at home vs. COL.
these 8 are basically playoff games and those 2 teams are going to be desperate to win but if they can come through it whole they will be in good shape.
also cool right now JDG and Scherzer line up for the 2 vs. NYY right after these 8. Should be a fun 10 days of baseball.
Hopefully the bats can ramp back up here for these next 10!
PRIMARILY:
Louis G - How long will he be out? Who'll take his place?
McNeil - He's been in the lineup the last two days, but is he really ok with the laceration on his right hand (throwing hand)?
SECONDARILY:
Escobar - Same as Louis G.
TERTIARY:
Megill - back in late August/early SEptember as part of the bullpen and/or as a spot starter
Smith - early September (prolly gonna take Tommy Hunter's innings)
The Hefty Lefty!
That sounds about right. We do need him on the roster though. Next season, different story.
Vientos sucks so badly at 3B that he has only played there 3 times in his last 34 games, and Baty has 5 errors in his last 11 games at 3B
Vientos has already been moved off 3B and Baty is still a "may not stick at 3B" guy
Plus they need a middle infielder because without Guillorme there is no backup SS

Just call him The Babe, and watch him run the bases

Escobar can't swing RH, which is his "good" side. Luis has a leg. Put them both on the DL and bring the youngsters up to platoon at 3B

Mets need to get over their absolutes in regard to fielding. The only question is will the guy's bat add more than his glove will cost? Wilmer Flores plays 2B and 3B for the Giants (who won 107 games last year)and Davey Johnson used to play Kevin Mitchell sometimes at SS. Why? because his bat over his glove was a net positive
I can pretty much guarantee that a Vientos/Baty platoon or semi-platoon will add more--bat and glove combined--than Escobar playing 3B every day as he did in the first half.
And it is for a short time. Catcher, SS, or CF I can see. With the corner positions, it's fine to have a mediocre glove for a week or two.
Walker vs Morton, who the Mets have hammered
Scherzer vs. Odorizzi
deGrom vs TBD.
Split is almost a must with these matchups, but a good chance to take the series

This is an enormous week - you dont take rookies who havent shown they can handle the position in the minors and put them on this big of a stage this week
Plus neither Vientos nor Baty can play SS, so who is the backup for Lindor? The Mets need a middle infielder, not rookie 3B who cant field in the minors

I wanna bury them. Mets can win this series 3 to 1. Barfs will hoot and holler if they win a game of course and claim the Mets were lucky again the rest of the series.
Scherzer
Bassitt
Carrasco
Walker
the best 5-man rotation in Mets history? on paper even, since they've only been a rotation for two turns so far.

I dunno.
Gooden
Cone
Darling
Ojeda
Fernandez
were pretty good in 88.
its mind boggling if they dont. they dont have a ton of IF depth now so doesnt it make sense to give the next guy up some time to acclimate if needed? soft tissue injuries can linger and reagrivate.
unless they are forced i dont see them doing it vs braves/phils/nyy so maybe colorado series?

Only to you is it mind boggling. If Guillorme is out, they have no backup SS, so they need someone who can play SS. Plus Vientos sucks at 3B and will K over 50%

And Gooden, Darling, Ojeda, Sid, Aggie in 86. But this one is right there with those others.
Gotta remember it was such a different era in the 80s or the 69-73 group with Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Matlack. Back in those two eras most hitters were far tougher to strike out, players gave tougher at bats then

Sounds like the Mets haven’t ruled out the possibility of promoting Brett Baty depending on what Luis Guillorme’s MRI shows tomorrow. Mark Vientos, a right-handed bat, hasn’t been in the discussion.

For me, the 1988 starting rotation was the best. The backend of the rotation does it for me (Ojeda and Fernandez over Carrasco and Walker). 88 rotation over the 86 rotation cuz Coney was better than Aggy.

with the 7 day IL i dont know why they dont just IL him and bring up Vientos.

Because Vientos sucks defensively at third base, and apparently you're the only one who doesn't know that
Sucks? Seems a little of an overstatement. Anyway, they can live with less than superstar defense during a Escobar/Guillorme IL stint if he produces at the plate.
Likely Escobar doesn't hit the DL. Although, in the broadcast they were saying Escobar right now can only hit left-handed. To me, it seems like Vientos might be the guy you want to be up to playing third against lefties.
Canha can also play there in a pinch and obviously would be the bat you want with Ruf in LF.

Yes, Gooden and company get the nod here.
I like the consistency these guys have brought to the mound though this season. Overachieving to a large degree although I wish that wasn't the case.

I think Escobar would be the back-up at SS and you consider calling up possibly Baty to start at 3B.

Vientos has played 3B just 4 times in his last 34 games. According to DanMetroman the Mets stopped listing him as a 3B. He hadn't played 3B in a month until this weekend
"2. New York Mets
Record: 75-40
Last Power Ranking: 4"
"We got us a New York switcheroo, folks!"
"While the Yanks have gone ice cold, the Mets cannot be stopped. They own the second-best record in baseball and have won 17 of their last 20 games. A key strength has been pitching, as no opponent has scored more than two runs in any of New York’s last eight contests. Only once in the last month has a Mets starter been knocked out before completing five innings. The rotation gets the ball to Edwin Díaz, who walks out to tremendous music and then slams the door shut."
"This is a pitching staff now running at full strength. Max Scherzer is dealing, Jacob deGrom is finally back and Chris Bassitt is eating high-quality innings. One of Taijuan Walker (3.43 ERA) or Carlos Carrasco (3.76 ERA) will not start a playoff game. We all remember what happened the last time a Mets team was this pitching-strong."

Hurt his groin rounding third and is expected to have an MRI
"Again, Cora came to the Mets as the worst third base coach in the game. While he’s arguably been better than that, it two huge spots, he made indefensibly horrible calls. The Mets need him to be better."
