can see us pounding the ball somewhat
Payasdaddy : 8/15/2022 3:29 pm : link
Oline may be pretty good run blocking
Rbs look deep
scoring points? tough no #1 WR, No red zone TE
a qb that if he is average may be a positive

D and run game may have us look like bears with trubisky a couple of yrs ago

What a great report.
Johnny5 : 8/15/2022 3:36 pm : link
I am already excited for this defense, especially when all starters are in. But I am starting to think we are in better shape than I have been thinking on the offense. I like the RB group and it seems like the OL is really coming together with some depth. The Bredeson info is so encouraging. And if Jones is actually better than Taylor(and keeps improving and building more confidence within this scheme), we could definitely win a decent amount of games. Cross fingers on health. We need to keep the starters somewhat healthy, for once.
Would be pretty interesting if Bredeson
csb : 8/15/2022 3:37 pm : link
ended up starting C. If he were able to lock down a starting spot it would probably be the best trade DG made during his tenure.
Thanks Sy,
section125 : 8/15/2022 3:54 pm : link
Sounds like a better day for the offense. How much more Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde can they be? I suppose when most of your OL is out, it is hard to go against what sounds like a competent/good defense.

I guess on the CB front you see more in Evans and Gilbert than we do. I think on a couple occasions you said they have makeup speed. Nothing wrong with having players that just need development on the PS.

I think if coming off last year, we knew only TE and CB would be thin(I guess WR is too), we would have been happy. Cannot fix all in one offseason.
That is a lot of guys not practicing

I check the Buffalo Bills practice through a friend who follows the bills….hardly anyone is missing practice. I don’t get it…..how could there be such a discrepancy? Every year too…..SMH

Would be ideal if he could become the long term option there. Remember Feliciano is only on a one year deal.

feliciano gets banged up alot would like if BB a viable long term solution at OC obviously Gates too
Thanks, Sy.
George from PA : 8/15/2022 4:14 pm : link
If the defense can truly be special.....which somewhat justify the poor play by the offense.

I do like that our defense held the Patriots to 50yards rushing....and the OL is able to still open holes.....so maybe run blocking be a real advantage.

The joint practice with the Jets should give us a better idea where we stand
Great

Thanks for another great report Sy

I’m really excited about the running backs and I’m hoping Corbin can make the final 53.
Does his return ability allow the Giants to carry 5 running backs?
Maybe go without a fullback?
I’d like your opinion if you have time.
Thanks for another great report Sy

I don’t get why so many injuries, year after year after year. We have no luck at all. I know it’s football and injuries are a part of it, but Giants have always had an inordinate amount and it really impacts the play on the field as our depth is generally lacking. Maybe they’re just being a lot more cautious in camp and pre-season?! At least that’s my hope.

WIth an established front office and HC, Buffalo players come in to camp in shape because they know what is expected of them. Giants players are still trying to figure out how they should be spending the off season.
Elerson Smith cannot go on PUP
FJ : 8/15/2022 4:56 pm : link
He passed his physical at the beginning of camp, has practiced and even played in the last preseason game. How do people still not understand the PUP? Come on Sy!
Antonio Williams had an impressive game vs NE. It'll be interesting

to see if he can continue playing that well.

I don't see it. The Daboll offense has always used a pure fullback. Hall is the one getting looks there and keeping a 5th RB is just poor use of resources.

I think they should feel safe with stashing one on the PS.
We may see how good Joe Schoen is as a GM when they make final cuts
Ivan15 : 8/15/2022 5:12 pm : link
Picking up some veteran cuts, sneaking players onto the practice squad and protecting short-term injured players for a future return are always challenges. Their waiver wire position can really come in handy too.

Did Roy MBaeteka at least flash at all? I expected him to have a real rough day as the 2nd team LT but I was hoping that he flashed athleticism, strength, etc. at least on a few plays. Do you think he makes it to the PS?

He has the frame and straight line movement.

Playing with the right bend and balance/weight distribution looks very hard for him. Long term project - I don't see him being a factor this year.

Happy to hear that the dee keeps looking really good. Many here figured that they would struggle. They still could if depth becomes an issue

if some of the DBs look good because of the lack of talent at WR they are going up against. The DBs didn't look all that great against NE.
Bredeson turning into something,
Ben in Tampa : 8/15/2022 6:54 pm : link
A quality backup or eventual starter, would be a real plus for the Giants. Especially given his acquisition cost was a 4th round pick

I think the Giants have a few major vulnerabilities. If a starting IDL, corner, or WR go down, they are very exposed.

Pretty damning report.

Not many positive reports about his play coming out of camp. Not particularly impressive in 1st preseason start.

Some good coaching and the right work ethic (which apparently he has) along with his natural great size and athleticism; hopefully gets him to where we expect, but it sounds like we still may have issues at RT, at least to start the season.

I was hoping (still am but not as confident as before) that this year we wouldn't have to see DJ running for his life every time we try to pass.

It will take him time. New technique in blocking and new blocking scheme. Speed of game is a lot faster. He has to undo what he has been doing for 8 years or more.
Thanks Sy

Continued encouraging signs our defense has some elite talent and lot of good young pieces. Wink seems very happy. They may good this year if they stay healthy and elite by next year. Physical and elite on that side is half way to Giants football being back.

I hope JS/BD keep on the back burner plans to replace Wink. He gets this unit in the top 10 this year he may be a one and done imv.

I expect him to follow the same path as Penei Sewell last year. Rough first 5-7 games, steady on after that.

I do not expect another Andrew Thomas. That would be disappointing.

Thomas struggled big time as a rookie. I think he meant he wants Neal to be better than Thomas was as a rookie.

Thomas had an ankle as a rookie and a coach who made him change his technique from his college days. IIRC, he played better after the OL coach change and maybe his ankle healed somewhat.
I think the Doc
Lines of Scrimmage : 8/16/2022 10:47 am : link
pretty much nailed it. One of the beats put out something like "Thomas is not what the Giants though they were getting". It was pretty concerning and strange. Perhaps some building politics.

Judge stepped in and told him just block your man your way. Columbo got fired and then AT started getting his footing.

Good thing is this staff seems really high on him. Let's hope that ankle/foot issue is gone for good.

Re-watched portions of first pre-season game. This guy made some nice tackles and definitely helped to compress passing pocket. He looked very strong!
