-The TE group is still a spot I see the team needing to bring in outside help. Nobody knows the deal with Ricky Seals-Jones, but I am assuming he is just out of the picture for now. Daniel Bellinger and Chris Myarick seem to get the most looks with the ones and it is more of the same. Myarick does not have an upside, but he is gritty enough to get by. I think he is more of a #3 though. Bellinger is easy to like. I spent time watching the group run routes both against air and linebackers/safeties. The rookie is the smoothest mover in and out of his breaks and shows the softest hands. I don’t see Austin Allen being a 53-man guy though. Gotta love the height but his pad level is so up and down as a route runner. He has a hard time accelerating and changing direction, but he does have some stride speed. |
that's from Sy's camp report today.
so none of our TE's have shown much route running ability. Meanwhile we have a 6'4 receiver who knows how to run routes but is having trouble separating from DBs.
Could it make sense to let Golladay lineup in the TE position and run routes from there where he'd presumably get matched up with linebackers or safeties which he could hopefully get better separation from? Plus, Golladay has shown an ability to block downfield (albeit blocking a CB is different than blocking a LB but still), he might be able to provide something there.
It might not work out but is it worth a shot seeing that we have the depth at WR and none at TE? Could solve some problems at least for one year.
no I'm trying to spitball some solutions. The Giants aren't likely to cut Golladay this year because of the cap ramifications and if they keep him at WR they are going to likely cut a good WR prospect.
Meanwhile our TE position is a pass catching void. Shifting Golladay to TE might solve his problem - he can't separate from CBs but maybe he still can against and linebacker safety.
if it works the Giants get some production out of the TE position and get to keep one more WR.
Life is good...

The Giants will probably keep 5 or 6 WRs.
Do you honestly think that the 6th or 7th WR on this roster is a "good WR prospect"?
you are asking a guy who is basically an outside receiver to add things to what he is not doing well already
not a got plan -- the spit is dripping out of your shooter
What should be done with him?
What should be done with him?
As well respected as Sy is, he doesn't work for the Giants. Let Giants personnel make the decision of who they want on the field
And his route is more like root rot.
Not like he doesn’t, care. A hard working pro who spent the off Season here. Worked with Jones every chance he got. He is a physical mismatch size wise with most cbs.
Think with good scheming he can be productive. He should be a factor in the red zone for example. Match him up with smaller db in space created by scheme.and take advantage..
I am not trying to justify the signing just indicating he can have a roll and produce.
