NFT: Mets at Braves Game 3. Mad Max and Baty

ZGiants98 : 8/17/2022 5:46 pm
Mets Lineup

CF Brandon Nimmo
RF Starling Marte
SS Francisco Lindor
1B Pete Alonso
DH Daniel Vogelbach
2B Jeff McNeil
LF Mark Canha
3B Brett Baty
C James McCann

RHP Max Scherzer

Braves Lineup

RF Acuña Jr.
SS Swanson
3B Riley
1B Olson
DH Ozuna
C Contreras
CF Harris II
2B Grissom
LF Grossman

RHP Jake Odorizzi

Time for the bats to wake up. Scherzer brings a different kind of energy to things. Will be great to get a look at Baty tonight. Probably, the best lineup tonight we've sported all year, even discounting Baty's expectations. Big game! LFGM!

Let's see how arrogant they are tomorrow against you know who (unless they've already predetermined a rain-out)...

May feels like the Familia of this recent Mets roster the last few years. Every time he enters the game you just know bad things are going to happen.
Lugo needs to come in soon if this continues.

The Mets bullpen just is not good. Pedestrian, at best.

They are currently ranked 13th in MLB and even that is boosted by Diaz’ stats.

I don’t want hear about what fangraphs “projects” for the year. They are bad.

Harping on this bullpen has been honestly
bhill410 : 8/17/2022 11:26 pm : link
The one constant all season and frankly off season. Everyone has assumed all along they were going to make not just one but two moves to shore it up and it just never happened. In the off-season interview - assuming the Mets don’t win a ws - I am going to be fascinated if someone asks and eppler answers wtf happened. As we sit here now it’s just befuddling.

I feel exactly the same way, can't understand why they didn't do more, except maybe they are counting on Magill/Peterson?

Meanwhile, Robertson has been nails for PHI. The price they paid to get him wasn’t outrageous

Agreed. That was the guy I wanted. I think most, if not all of us wanted him. What do you think it would have cost us though to get him? Mauricio or less?

I really wanted Robertson also. I didn't understand how Phillie did so much at the deadline, and we, apparently, not so much.
I'm OK with Vogelbach, Nayquin, and Ruf, but not with Givens as the only B.P. addition.
JD Davis with another HR tonight
ZGiants98 : 8/17/2022 11:48 pm : link
He's been absolutely on fire since the day he got traded. 1000 OPS since he left and he's playing every day and starting at 3B.

Damn shame we wasted so much time on Cano and Dom and couldnt just commit to him full time earlier in the year.

Oh well. Id rather have VogelRuf anyway. But glad to see JD do well though.

Maybe if Buck - who’s been otherwise terrific - wasn’t so loyal to Escobar- he could have found his groove here. Oh well.

Good point
One of Buck's strengths
Vanzetti : 8/18/2022 12:57 am : link
is that he makes a plan and sticks to it.

Escobar is the 3B. Trevor May is going to finish the game. I'm screaming at the TV, cursing May, cursing Buck, cursing Sandy, cursing friggin Abner Doubleday for inventing this game.

Buck is impassive, seeing his decision through to its conclusion.

That's one of things that makes him great. But occasionally it can make him seem inflexible, as with his sticking by EScobar. But you have to live with that and most of the time he is right.

Escobar has has 375 AB’s, time to move on
Buck doesn't do anything quickly.
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/18/2022 7:10 am : link
I wouldn't expect Baty to take the job from Escobar even if he's OPSing 1.000. Buck seems to like his veterans.
