Time for the bats to wake up. Scherzer brings a different kind of energy to things. Will be great to get a look at Baty tonight. Probably, the best lineup tonight we've sported all year, even discounting Baty's expectations. Big game! LFGM!
Wow all of a sudden every Met fan thinks he is the 2nd coming of Mariano. Amazing that it will be him who sets the bar for salaries for closers. They wanted him run out of town now they are rolling out the red carpet.
Quote:
Will be the highest paid closer of all time. He will get it and deserves it. Obviously, I’m not saying he’s better than Mariano Rivera

Fans get upset when players don’t perform. Mets fans aren’t unique. Yankee fans notoriously booed Rivera when he blew a few saves in a row.

That's actually not even close to what I said. The highest paid closer in baseball this season
Chapman 18
Kimbrel/Jansen 16
So... Diaz will be the highest paid closer in baseball via FA.

I would rather be paying Diaz 22 than Chapman 18

What an interesting, informative, enlightening, educational, intelligent and intellectual comment you just landed there. We learned so much from your contribution. Keep it up! Thank you.
In terms of prospects, the cupboard is bare in the upper minors and the free agent crop doesn't excite me.
Steve needs to buck up here, supposedly he was the one pounding to table to acquire Baez last year.

Can you point to a single Met fan who has claimed that Diaz is the 2nd coming of Mariano? DMM specifically said "I’m not saying he’s better than Mariano Rivera".
People see shit that's not there.

He's having a historic season for a closer. Why is this shocking?
It's that weird dynamic when others accuse you of the exact thing they're actually doing themselves.
I understand what you are saying, but I don't like the idea of moving Marte back to CF full time. First off he plays a solid RF and has a strong arm. He is also far to important to this team offensively and I think he will get banged up playing CF full time.
Carlos Beltran talked about how moving to RF extended his career, with much less wear and tear on your legs. Marte has dealt with a couple muscle pulls this year and I would be concerned that could get worse as he ages.
Sanchez actually has some MLB success. 4.2 fWAR 2017+2018 thanks to his plus defense at 2b/3b, not much experience at SS (which is something they implied they valued) but he's probably better than Marrero #Mets
@timbhealey
Yolmer Sanchez, utility infielder, will need to be added to the Mets' active roster once he joins the team.

I thought he was, but didn't wanna say anything, I don't like them folks too much, lol.

Probably not going to happen.
Nimmo is a good player but his value specifically to the Mets is leadoff, where he had an OBP of over .400 three different times. Now its dropped 50 points this season.
Marte can play there. Canha can get a few games in there. Naquin if he is resigned. And the organization appears to think highly of McIlwain, who is at AA.
I think Mets will make Nimmo a good offer. In an ideal world, they would love to have him back. But Boras will reject it and Brandon will wind up going elsewhere. Our best hope might be that Brandon looks at his buddy Conforto as a cautionary tale and just accepts Mets offer with a bit of a hometown discount.

Dan specifically said he wasn't comparing Diaz to Mariano, yet here comes a Yankee fan to cry and whine about it on a Mets thread. Maryland may blow, but not as much as you do.

I'm not sure how robust his market is going to be. Last year Canha was worth 3 fwar, 8.6 over his prior 3 seasons (including 2020), and basically a .375 OBP/125 wrc/800 ops over that period of time.
Nimmo is up to 3.5 fwar right now, and while he's had more pop than canha in the past right now he's on a .764 ops/.351 obp, so the big difference is that he's playing a very good CF. He is just under the 8.5 fwar the last 3 years so he will probably get slightly beyond what canha had entering the market.
none of that is to say that Nimmo isn't worth more than Canha and perhaps significantly, he will unquestionably get a longer deal than 2 years so the question is where does his AAV come in? I don't think it's going too far beyond Marte's if at all because while a lot can change in a year, last offseason the open market valued canha's AAV about 1/3 lower than Marte's over half as long even though they were same age. i think that difference appropriately covers the additional value in CF and offensively. and if not the mets have both those guys as fallback plans.
i think this is right since they've put canha in center over marte when nimmo has been out. maybe that would change but i do think part of the decision to put marte in right was to keep less miles off his legs over the season.
if nimmo moves on i think vanzetti had the right idea with them bringing back naquin (or maybe someone a little better) as another option in CF along with Canha, plus Ruf playing more in LF. Who knows maybe Baty more in LF too.

Increased optimism that Taijuan Walker, whose MRI revealed a slight disc bulge in his lower back, can make his next scheduled start Sunday. But the Mets aren't there yet. Walker called it "the worst pain I ever felt" and said he's "shocked" he's feeling this good two days later.

lol Dennis. I'll add that to the menu next time we encounter Prison Striper meatheads of his ilk.
