NFT: Red Hot Chili Peppers at Met Life

Did anyone else go to the show last night? They were great. The place was packed (I think 3/4’s was in use). I was a bit surprised that they played ALL of their radio hits. Unfortunately, they didn’t play the songs I wanted to hear with the major John Frusciante solos.

As an aside, you could waste half of your life trying to get out of that parking lot afterwards.
Very dangerous talking about them on BBI

I'm 50/50 on going to see them in Fenway next month. Need to stop spending money but its the perfect time of year to see them at a ballpark. Decisions, decisions.

Glad you had a good time. Not glad to hear about Frusciante, that sucks. Him and flea are up there with the best guitar duos ever, they should be featured heavily.
I had a blast

and yes, I love that they had every hit going.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re doing songs from the albums with John so he damn near has a solo with every song. I just really was hoping to hear Don’t Forget Me, Wet Sand, or Strip My Mind. They don’t do those songs every show, just like they don’t normally play ALL of their radio hits. Minor disappointment… that’s all. Still a great performance.
ohh yeah, I hear you

my mind goes immediately to their Slane Castle DVD - just an epic show and so much Flea/Frusciante. It won't change whether I go or not, I really want to see them live either way.
Amazing Show

Was in London two months ago when they played and saw them there. Couldn't resist seeing them again. Last night was even better. Will definitely see them again next time they're in town.
I was there

They were great! Frusciante and Flea jammed quite a bit I wish they played a few more songs period. but the sound was good, nice night!
Great show

and to be completely honest, I didn't love it.

I think part of me is just bitter I didn't see them a few years ago, because my favorite stuff is BDSM and prior, and they barely play that album anymore outside of Under the Bridge and Give it Away.

I think my favorite songs are mostly deep cuts, and I can take or leave a lot of their more popular radio hits like Dani California or Otherside.

I also wish we had some more fan interaction. I kinda felt like they just go up, play, leave. I saw Foo Fighters twice this year and Dave talks to the crowd for multiple minutes in-between almost every song and slowing the show down a bit paces it out better IMO.

Still a good show, bucket list show, but I don't know if I need to see them again and I'm a huge fan... every word of every song on every album, multiple posters in my childhood room, vinyls, etc...
I saw them at Roseland

with unknown Pearl Jam and the Smashing Pumpkins opening. Saw them in other small venues back then as well.

That’s awesome, probably sounded unbelievable in a smaller venue like that too. Stadium shows are fun, but you’ll never get the same sound quality.

Grohl is pretty unique in regard to his participation with the audience in all fairness.

because I don't go to stadium concerts. Mostly I'm fine with that tradeoff but I really would like to do a peppers show.

Similar thoughts from me. First of all, it was my first stadium concert since my parents took me to Giants Stadium to see the Stones in their Bridges to Babylon tour in October of 1997 when I was 12 and couldn’t appreciate any of it. It was also my first trip to the tomb that is MetLife and I can’t add anything about the dysfunction and dreariness of that Orwellian government building that hasn’t already been said a million times already. Regarding the show itself, I agree it’s a fine tuned product. No mistaking that John, Flea and Chad can still absolute crush it. I’d prefer 2 hours of their side jams to actual radio hits at this point. Seen them 3 or 4 times before too so knew what to expect. Still love ‘em, but would have killed for some Sir Psycho Sexy or Turn It Again.
I’m not really into stadium shows
UConn4523 : 8/18/2022 8:27 pm : link
MetLife was a no go for me for that reason, among others (travel, bad week for me too). Only other option is Fenway, which I’ve heard is a great concert venue. Plan would be to stay the night afterward with another couple. But we’re looking at pretty crappy seats just to not break the bank, which I’m told works due to Fenway being smaller.

Great show, of course. It was shortly after BSSM was released. We arrived halfway through PJ set. Nobody knew who they were but they were great. Pumpkins hadn't released SD yet but were captivating. And RHCP brought the house down.

Months later I saw RHCP and PJ again at Lollapalooza at Jones Beach By then PJ was headlining tours. PJ stole the day and Eddie Vedder famously, and dangerously, climbed the scaffolding at Jones Beach. They were incredible. Soundgarden also played that day.

The best pumpkins show I saw, of many, was to debut of Mellon Collie at the Academy, capacity 2000. And the best show I ever saw at Roseland was Nirvana, twice. One was a preview of In Utero.

Pretty good I thought. It's always weird to me at outdoor stadiums to see people performing during the daylight.

Also, I'm going to call myself out for my earlier post where I used "BDSM" instead of "BSSM" lol

I thought they were really good. I’ve never seen them live and have heard stories about Julian showing up in not great form to shows and whatnot so I was half expecting him to suck or stumble around, neither of which happened. They rocked out really hard on Reptilia, which was really cool to see live.
There new single released today
