Report: Utah Jazz have received strong Donovan Mitchell trade offers from teams other than Knicks that they like ‘an awful lot’
Despite the report, the concluding message regarding a potential deal between the Knicks and Jazz is that “both teams want this deal done.”
Based on the report, it sounds like a deal could be imminent. However, there have already been moments this summer where that has been the case.
Alot of noise being floated by Utah all of this comes from checketts which is definitely connected to the front office.

Wouldnt be shocked if a deal is a greed to with Lakers involved but it cant be announved yet..
The video with Fat Joe and Mitchell, it looks like Joe asks if he was coming to NY and Mitchell says yes
In addition, Ainge gets his choice of Obi or Quick.
So Ainge gets his six first round picks (sort of) and a quality young player.

Ainge wants more picks, especially unprotected first rd picks.
Some highlights:
- Everyone feels it's inevitable - when, not if
- Knicks traded out of first round with this in mind
- Knicks feel Ainge wants Grimes/IQ/Obi just to make the deal look better - he doesn't value those guys the way the Knicks do.
- Doesn't think the Knicks are worried as much about the picks, they may even be agreed upon. They want to keep their young supporting cast mostly intact.
- Hahn's not sure IQ/Obi are starters, believes Grimes is
- Hasn't heard Cam's name, but Hahn thinks Ainge should gamble on him
- "Leaning towards" deal is done prior to camp
- Both sides feel parameters of a deal are in place - there's no deadline this time of year so there's been no urgency
Not sure I buy the part about trading out of the first round with Mitchell in mind, as they were going after Ivey aggressively according to reports. Otherwise more of the same - one of these days...

They are excited that a backcourt tandem of Jalen Brunson and Mitchell, with RJ Barrett, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson in the frontcourt, and Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley as the top two guards off the bench, would make them a top-six Eastern team.
Giving up all their eligible first-round picks, however, would leave the Knicks in a place that would prevent them — perhaps for years — from making another significant trade in order to take the next step.
The Knicks were 37-45 during a bitter 2021-22 campaign. Their championship drought will reach 50 years if they don’t win it this June.
“Getting from 47 wins to 57 wins, that’s harder than 37 to 47,’’ a coaching source said.
Stockpiling draft picks has been a central strategy during team president Leon Rose’s regime, with chief strategist Brock Aller a top influencer. The Knicks, however, already have traded their 2022 lottery pick to clear cap space to sign Brunson, their much-needed point guard.
The Knicks also could forfeit an additional first-round pick as the NBA investigates whether to punish them for tampering with Brunson.
Coach Tom Thibodeau is still keenly interested in making Mitchell a Knick and has recently laid low, knowing the offseason work isn’t complete.
There is belief around the league Thibodeau would prefer to give up Barrett in a deal than shooting guard Quentin Grimes, who is coming off a solid rookie year, and a summer league in which he looked quicker and more sculpted. Grimes is a better defender and 3-point shooter than Barrett.
Ainge is hot to acquire Grimes for his Jazz rebuilding plan. One individual believes Grimes would likely be amenable to joining Utah since a Brunson-Mitchell backcourt would be a roadblock to ever becoming a Knicks starter. Grimes is a Houston native who played part of his college career at Kansas.
Thibodeau pushed for Grimes in the 2021 draft and thinks he could make a good fit in a Mitchell-Brunson scenario.

I know we’ve bounced this around before but if dealing RJ saves us all of IQ/Obi/Grimes + a first rounder or two, I’d probably do it.
Grimes isn’t holding this deal up for me.
RJ is resilient, missing very few games; he is an exceptionally hard worker as he has improved every season; he is a leader.
Also, he is one of the best in the league getting into the paint; is a good defender getting better and he has pretty good court vision. The one area he still needs to improve is his three-point shot, but again it has improved every year.
What do we know about Grimes? He is also a strong defender and has a good three-point shot. But he was injured in his first season and thus did not play many games he and has not proven that he can hold up under 35-minutes a game like RJ.
He’s quiet, not the leader type and unlike RJ, who has proven he can handle New York-pressure, Grimes is more the quiet type.
This doesn’t mean Grimes is not a good prospect, he is. But RJ has a higher ceiling.
Frankly, I am not trading four or five firsts PLUS either of these guys for Mitchell. It’s been said on this board a lot but Mitchell is a strong piece but he is not going to make them a contender on his own. I’d give up those four or five picks with Cam, or even Obi before I trade RJ or Grimes. And this is no knock against Obi but rather the fact that Thibs has continued to show he is going to play Randle 35 minutes a game, committed to Robinson and just signed Hart.
So there is little time for Obi on the court right now.
Without question Grimes is a better fit next to star player..I like Rj but i dont know how he will fit as the 3rd or 4th option, same as Randle..
Do i want to give up Rj for Mitchell? no but if i could keep all the other young players then i would probably do it..
I just dont think Rj will ever be an effecient player

Barrett was much more efficient the last 2-3 months of 20-21 when Robinson was injured. Mitch spends the entire possession clogging up the lane looking for rebounds. That forces Barrett to operate on the perimeter where he’s less effective.
I don’t think Mitch is doing Randall any favors either.
Woah! 😱😱😱.
As he should, kid is exciting and has a non stop motor. He will only improve the more he plays.
Ugh… I really don’t want to trade Obi at all. I like Grimes, burn just don’t see how the playing time works for him on this roster with Brunson, Mitchell, and RJ.

“New York made a recent offer of Evan Fournier, Obi Toppin, additional salary and two unprotected first-round draft picks… The Jazz’s asking price has been more significant than that.”
