seems like the season just ended.
but less than one week training camp starts and just over a week before 1st pre-season game (I think 9/15 is the first game), looking forward to the season (even though it looks to be a massive rebuild in MTL).
still a few RFA's unsigned and some notable FA's still unemployed.
some players I think (could be wrong) are still available as UFAs are PK Subban, Zach Aston-Reese, Braden Holtby, Sonny Milano, Evan Rodrigues, and more...
lol.
Islanders poked very solid against a Rangers team that looked disinterested. Romanov thumped a few Rangers and the Rangers did not like it. Have a feeling Islander fans are going to love this kid.

He's a fun player to watch. So active. and that hip check.

With season-opening rosters finalized tomorrow afternoon, TOR sent email making it known 1,019-game vet Wayne Simmonds is available. Return is not as important as "doing right by the player." Simmonds has said he feels good and very much wants to play. Hopefully, there's a path.
Rossi and Kaprizov is going to be fun - I hope Rossi is on the PP.

My sense is these stories are awful, and the people who committed the acts and those who knew and didn't do anything should be appropriately punished, but what is probably going to happen is a response much greater - indicting everyone not just those involved - to make an example.
and it will make things worse - IMO.
Sounds like Blais to IR may buy them some time, but not in a good way necessarily, they need Blais to play.
Friedman already cleared waivers.
I don't think he's a fit in MTL anyway.
this is a rebuilding year, as long as your expectations are low (for the team), my sense is have the top prospects get the NHL experience.

The Canadiens have assigned defenseman Arber Xhekaj to the Laval Rocket.

sounds like a "paper" move and Xhekaj (pronounced Jack-eye for those who haven't seen him play in a game with an announcer) will stay in MTL and no other transaction is likely
Well they still need to clear 3 contracts and $10.3M before adding Xhekaj, so Price and Byron (at least to LTIR was assumed) and that's still not probably not enough so one of Drouin, Monahan or Armia will need to be LTIR'd as well or a trade has to take place.

my post was just quoting Lavoie
thanks, I appreciate it, contracts/salary cap is not my strong suit
I don't think the AHL offers him much as long as he's comfortable with the size of ice surface.
He's too good for the AHL IMO.

Holding individual players responsible for their governments' actions is dumb and discriminatory.

Does Hasek hold some kind of position in whatever organization is involved in making these games happen? Opinions about his opinion aside, is this just him speaking out, or does he actually have some authority to block the NHL from putting on events in the Czech Republic?

Hockey Canada announces chief executive Scott Smith has left the organization and that all board members have agreed to step down.
It would be bad to send him down after 9 games, if he plays well to save a year on the ELC, and then see the Devils in contention and want to bring him back up later in the year.
No one has a crystal ball, but I wouldn't send him down solely to save a year if he seems like he is a fit in the NHL and thriving.
Only Formenton (OTT) remains of RFAs
looked like a wild 3rd period.
A bunch of games tonight.

The #NJDevils just confirmed a few things to me:
- Don’t be shocked if Bahl gets called up soon.
- If Nemec wasn’t called up now, he likely wouldn’t have been this year, since cap hit for him would be MUCH larger later on. Doing it now gives them max. cap flexibility for LTIR.

Yeah saw that. Makes sense. Nemec can spend much of the year in The A getting used to North American hockey and maybe we get a nice extended look at Bahl. One thing we sorely lack on D and the roster as a whole is his size. He had a solid camp and hopefully he can give us that physicality we lack as a 3rd pairing guy.

Yeah I like having Bahl and Marino as the 3rd pairing. Brendan Smith is a solid 7th DMan but I was worried that Ruff was going to play him regularly on the 3rd pairing.

ANA is going to be a fun team to watch again and that game featured two of my favorite young players with Zegras vs Beniers.
I really think coaches who understand people and motivation (even someone who is familiar with Maslow and the hierarchy of human needs) would promote something like this every chance they get. It shows you're human and emphasizes why you play this game - to win the cup.
It reminds me of those ESPN specials on various football players, they had one om Belichick - it was a two-part episode - I think the only one who got two parts and he was talking to some of his players after they scored a TD and the microphone was on and he said (paraphrasing) "celebrate - you work all week trying to come up with ways to find the end zone, when you get there it's ok to celebrate. you've earned it"
I think it's little things like that that make a difference to players. perception is Belichick is curmudgeon and he probably is, but promoting your players to celebrate the good plays/TD's IMO helps him connect in some way.

Beniers is gonna be a star. That was a really good draft

continues as one of the more under the radar truly underrated players in the league. That zone exit from Gibson in OT reminds me of Shesterkin and that top shelf backhand from Terry was filthy.

Agree, and you cannot fault BUF for taking Powers. He's awesome too.
Many people say the 2023 draft is deeper than 2021 - which might be because there was no clear cut #1 in 2021, but 5 or 6 players all rated similarly.

3 of the 4 were to the same spot. High glove side.
While I am disappointed that he won't play I am glad that they are being safe with him. He has had trouble staying healthy so far in his career but if the Devils are going to have any chance of winning a playoff spot they need Nico to play at least 70 games.
Nico is hoping to make his season debut in their next game on Saturday.
How the hell can you put a season opener on there?

Yes it was a great game. The highlights looked awesome. I even saw Carey Price announced before the game….the ovation he got gave me chill bumps. Carey looked overwhelmed. Can’t believe your team started 4 rookies on defense. I guess you already have two vets out due to injury.
Again, my Leafs revert to another lousy goalie to replace a decent one in Soup Campbell. First FREDDIE, now Soup. Sigh….
But congrats to your boys. I trust my boys will rebound today v Capitals.

Brutal - there is a NHL Center Ice free preview if your provider carries it - though the Devils game may be blacked out for you (Bruins usually are here, but I don't care - I'm not a fan and we have NESN anyway).
