Wide Receiver Darius Slayton

Q: Was yesterday a difficult, certainly unique day for you?

A: No, about the same. I went to meetings. Obviously, we covered the Titans – it's our opponent this week. So, pretty much the same.

Q: As far as the financials, what is your mindset now?

A: My mindset now is (Titans Cornerback) Kristian Fulton and (Titans Cornerback) Roger McCreary are good corners. So is (Titans Safety) Kevin Byard and their other starting safety, they're all good players. They've got a good defensive backfield that we've got to be ready for.

Q: Did you think about telling them, you know what – just cut me?

A: Yeah, (Titans Defensive Tackle) Jeff Simmons is a hell raiser. He's a really good defensive tackle. A good rusher, good player. We've got to be ready for him.

Q: Do you have a good understanding of what your role is here now on this team?

A: Yeah, run routes, get open and catch the football.

Q: A lot of people, if they're in your situation, they would be pissed off and it would linger because this is a part of your livelihood. How do you avoid spending a lot of the season very annoyed at your employer?

A: By doing my job, playing football.

Q: Is it one of those where they had all the power and you had very little of it?

A: Yeah, kind of like I said I just play football. That's my job, it's what I do for a living. I tend to do it well and I plan to do it well this year.

Q: What do you want to show people? It's a contract year - whether you're here or whether you're somewhere else. Who knows what kind of opportunities you get but what do you aim to show the league or this team who you are as a player?

A: Probably just that I'm a good football player. I think I've shown that in the past, but I look forward to showing that again and showing that I'm a better player than what I've been in the past.
You know what, all bullshit about contracts,

production in the past etc., he was quite the pro with these questions. He refused to get dragged into the muck and did it with direct answers that were not snarky in nature.

I am rooting for him.
Really wanted CB Roger McCreary for Giants in this past draft.

Be interesting to see how he shows versus how CB Robinson shows for us...

Better comp is Flott. Flott is the primary backup to all three spots.

Robinson is a nickel guy being placed outside. He's got 4.4 speed and good size. There's something to work with.

Keep in mind McCreary has under 30 inch arms. That was a big knock on him coming out.

Titans have McCreary playing outside and then moving into slot in some formations.

I have seen him play a lot...he's a competitive bulldog. Smallish in stature, but physical mindset.

Missing out on Sauce would have been okay if we got McCreary imv...

He handled himself well in that presser. Props to him.

perspective of Slayton. This could have gone bad with those stupid questions, but he handled them like a pro.
I like Slayton

I've always liked his interviews as well.
I believe in him. I don't like him at 2.5 million dollars right now, but I am very glad he can stay. I sincerely hope that next year he is worth more than the vet minimum regardless of what team he is on.
Too many drops
HewlettGiant : 9/7/2022 7:06 pm : link
He really needs to cut down on his drops
I won't lie....

I had written him off before Johnson got hurt. But now with a pay cut, and some healthy 2-3 WRs to take coverage off him, I can see him adding value to this team with the paycut....and a thin/injury prone WR core.

A professional....He didn't get baited into the paycut/WR position talk....I hope he works out.

He adds long speed to our WR group that none of the others truly have. This is why they thought he had trade value. When he's on the field, defenses have to account for him regardless of whether or not the ball goes his way.

There’s stupid and there’s intentionally insulting. This is the latter
Slayton has always been a great, down to earth dude.

People confuse production with character.

Agree. I hope he has a career year but maybe his future will include coaching.

The press are a bunch of despicable shit-stirrers
Reporters will say "We're just doing our job," but
CT Charlie : 9/7/2022 11:41 pm : link
those questions are not ones that readers want asked or answered.

I hope Slayton – the first player on the practice field today – has a great year and earns every single bonus in the contract.
I agree that Slayton handled the questions as well as anyone could.

I hope he shows the team and the football world the promise we saw when he was a rookie.
Always a guy to root for
Rudy5757 : 9/8/2022 7:10 am : link
just a tough situation with the cap and his elevated salary. There are a lot worse 4th WRs in the league. e will be on the field a lot.

There were some shitty questions in there, way too many and trying to get a story here.

When he is not the #1 or #2 Slayton has a lot of value. I hope he has a career year and someone pays him a lot of money.
Who the hell was

asking those questions , Pat Leonard?? What a douche...
Rooting for this guy
