I forgot, what did they trade the 11th pick for again?
Jim in Hoboken : 9/15/2022 11:12 pm : link
And trading the pick last year for a future pick with less value made no sense at all.

Now we have all these picks for what, just so we can turn them into second rounders?

I know, I know, some will say, well there aren't any more room for young players, plus Thibs doesn't play them anyway....but Thibs may not be the best coach for this roster now, and it's not like we have all NBA rookies on our bench. Mitchell was the #13 pick, we need to try to find our Mitchell, make those picks!! We don't need 5 picks in the high 20's every draft!!
They didn't make the pick...
Jan in DC : 9/16/2022 1:22 am : link
last year for 2 reasons. They were trying to get assets for a future trade AND they needed the cap space to get Brunson signed.

My biggest complaint about the front office is that it feels like they're compiling assets. At some point, you need to do something with them. You need to make a swing, pull the trigger on a deal and then make sure that the team is cohesive. Right now, all the deals are fine, if you look at them individually, but the totality of them do not make sense.

I think we've got to be at the end of the asset accumulation stage and it's time to go out and get someone. They can't want all of these picks to convey. We won't have enough roster space.

Got the wake up call. He is personally being currently active. Something he wasn’t doing all the time in the previous negotiations. Just thought I would pass along. Nothing close but a good word might be Hunting , asking, snooping etc.

I agree. The roster right now is a little too big. And Thibs is not creative at all with rotations, so there's no way that all these players get playing time. I can see Sims and Cam only getting playing time if there's an injury, with the way that the roster is currently constructed.

No shot Randle is moved anytime soon.

Have you heard anything on SGA? What would the ask be for him from OKC?

SGA was always their 1a and Mitchell their 1B, but as of now theirs no interest from OKC to move him, at least yet.

I do think if the season doesn’t start off we’ll they’ll move him with Chet out for the year and go full on tank for Victor. As for the ask I think something along the lines of 5 firsts and salary matches would be the ceiling.
The team at the meomnt is in teh worst place it could possbly be
giantstock : 9/16/2022 5:43 pm : link
And that is mediocrity or near mediocrity but not quite good enough to maybe not even be that. Unless you can point to have a great shot at a top 3 pick type or very near it, what are you for a team that doesn't have a bonafide star? You're mediocre.

Not saying the picks can't make a great trade or get lucky with the lottery in the future, but until you get that big star, you're nothing.
=======================
IMO this team has blown it the past two years and maybe more signing Randle and signing Fournier and now signing Brunson; it's a road to nowhere until you get the super player.

What did we hear from many about Mitchell? That he was a lock to the Knicks and/or no one else could offer what we could so we were going to get him or no one was?

****There still is hope of course- things are not bleak like some years. A great trade could happen or a surprising pick could elevate which immediately turns the tide.

But until then- what are the Knicks? They're nothing. I've seen conversations about whether the knicks are going to win 36 or 38 or 42 games etc. My God - that is soooo NOTHING. And unfortunately that's why there are conversations about 36/38/42 because that's the nothingness that we are.

I would have preferred tanking until they get the 1 super player. We were one pick away from Morant as an example.

I can’t fathom anyway possible that the Knicks land SGA. OKC already has so many picks why would they move a young super star for more picks.

Maybe booker? If any pipe dream were to come true….putting our hopes in the whole phoenix situation going to shit might make sense with the messy owner situation unfolding and who knows maybe they want to blow things up in a year or so. One can dream. But I don’t see SGA being moved let alone moved here for more picks. Why on earth would okc do that.

Unless SGA forces OKC's hand. I gotta imagine the dude is sit & tired of being on losing teams. OKC is all but waving the white flag AGAIN this season after Chet went down.

extra PG for camp and decent as a 15th man, not too exciting considering PG is probably the deepest position on the team anyway

Devin loves Phoenix (per Jessica)
Carl in CT : 9/18/2022 8:08 am : link
If he were to leave it would be NYC. He is always a player the Kentucky connection has loved. That being said I don’t believe there is anyway Phoenix moves him even with all the turbulence over there. That being said that was pre Grimes (who the admin’s new golden boy). I don’t have any names. Leon always waited for people to call him now he is making calls (sign of weakness? Desperate? Who knows). I will tell you at one time Phoenix did call about KP in year one or two and he could have been had. Everyone (including me) thought KP was the savior. Who knew? I believe at some point CAA will become an asset. Next weekend I should be seeing someone with info at a picnic who knows a hell of a lot more than me.

Is spot on again. I thought he was renting a condo but he could own one in NYC. That is true.
It’s really discouraging to control hear that Leon
CooperDash : 9/18/2022 8:58 am : link
has basically been sitting on his ass his entire time here and stroking his own ego in expecting people/offers to just flock to him. What a waste. But makes complete sense since he’s done jack shit until Brunson.

Why can’t the Knicks just find a normal fucking person to run the FO?

Knicks find a normal executive? You're asking for too much Coop! Dysfunction and weirdness is the name of the game with them!
I was really excited when the Knicks signed Leon Rose
CooperDash : 9/18/2022 10:48 am : link
The bigwig at CAA that literally created their basketball division. Let’s not be coy, he was hired because of his connections. And that was exciting. But now according to our own insiders, Rose has basically taken a back seat until just recently? Because he finally realized that being a big time agent means absolutely nothing? Thanks for wasting our time, guy.

Should have learned my lesson after the disaster with the NY Mets hiring Brodie Van Wagenen.

usually its the guys below him like the GM and assistant gm who call other teams and do the leg work on deals and the POBO comes in at the end..

This is not just Leon rose

I understand. And, really, I just going by what I’m reading here so I may be taking things out of context. BUT, I don’t view Rose’s job as a normal POBO job. He’s tasked with erasing 20 years of ineptitude and reshape this franchise. To hear that he’s only now taking an active role in things is disheartening. And for all the connections he has, I completely bought in that we were finally going to be big players. Now, it appears that he's scrambling.

Suns reportedly shopping Crowder and looking for low post scoring... seems like in theory it would make sense (especially that team looking like this is their last run at it with the current core given Paul's age etc)

Yeah you would think they would use Ayton as a post guy and get a stretch, 3 and d 4...I feel like crowder and Bridges are great fits for that team

Interesting, thanks. I'm sure Greg would be delighted. :-)
He's
DanMetroMan : 9/22/2022 3:26 pm : link
never been plump but Derrick Rose says he's down to 195, in 2021 he said he was "down" to 202 so he's probably a good 10 pounds lighter than last season. Said he hasn't been this light since his rookie season.

True that, at least Wiggins and others late bloomers morphed into good role players and then developed their game. Right now, the only situation I see him fitting is on a roster that's tanking.
