I"m coming to the conclusion of what we initially thought when Robinson was drafted in 2nd round. I don't think this coaching staff trusts Toney & they were hedging their bets taking Robinson.
Bruised ego - which of course is connected to the hammy
but I feel bad for him. He's doing everything right, loved his interview this week, but he can't shake the injury bug.
People hate on this kid like he is trying to get injured.
But then weirdly turn the other way when Shep misses 8 games a season.
If you don't think Shep gets shit on for also constantly being injured, you're not paying attention. And even still, he's contributed more than Toney and doesn't come off like a complete idiot like Toney does at times.
He runs a risk of injury every time he does play. He needs to learn that he doesn’t have to do hard cuts and Jukes on every route. It’s to much stress on his body.

Perhaps a sampling of how limited #Giants Kadarius Toney was today ...
Toney was the first WR in line for an individual drill today. He stepped back and let Marcus Johnson go. Then stepped back and let another WR go in front. Then the drill ended and he didn't take a rep.
He's just totally unreliable. I'd trade him right now if I could get anything remotely valuable in return. I'm not sure how people still aren't seeing the very clear and evident patterns here.

There is zero question regarding Shepard's commitment to football and the team. Yes, he's been injured a lot. He's fought his way back from quite a bit. These aren't the same things.
Are crying over a guy getting in a limited practice on a Thursday….
No one is crying, but it's not crazy to be concerned with this guy, who was a first rd pick and has barely played in 18 reg season games. It seems there's always something and as Eric said, things are so weird with him, we don't even know if he's really hurt.
All the red flags are there with this guy. He’s always injured, he misses voluntary camps, he hasn’t been trusted by 2 coaching staffs now. I don’t care how talented he, if he doesn’t want to improve himself this season, he needs to be traded or released in the offseason. We can’t dedicate a roster spot for a guy that isn’t giving his 100% to football. He’s a sunk cost at this point.

Of course he's hurt.
Doesn't he deserve the benefit of the doubt afterall?
Is the new Eli Apple. A massively talented kid, who just doesn’t put in the work to be great. A guy who just doesn’t love football. Hopefully when Toney is bouncing from team to team in a year or two, he’ll realize what he’s thrown away.
to the fact that where going to get some splashes from him during the year that are beyond exciting to watch, but there won't be an ounce of consistency and he can't be relied on to be part of the team on a week in week out basis.
I hope I'm wrong and he shows up Sunday, and every game afterwards and plays his ass off, but I need to see because he isn't getting the benefit of the doubt.

You cant say him being fragile and putting in the work are related
kids body may not be able to handle NFL rigors I am dissapointed but not blaiming him I really dont know how hard or not he works behind the scenes
I have had a number of people tell me football isn't that important to him.
BUT...
If these people know that, then certainly the Giants know that.
And if they know that, why is KT still on the team?
With Schoen/Daboll coming in, the time to part ways was ASAP if any of this true.
And there is the rub... are the rumors true or just bunk?
I have no idea.
The Giants need assets. Just cutting him is pointless. He's too talented not to give him a chance. If he plays well and can move him then great. And if you look at OTC, he would cost over $4 mil to cut. That isn't happening. The only option is a trade and he needs to increase his value to do that.
If it’s true that he will never dedicate himself the way this staff needs him to - then the goal should be rehabilitate him enough to get some value when parting ways (trade).
keeps improving and the interior settles in. Your modern offense may have to wait a bit. This WR situation was concerning all training camp between no separation Galloday, Toney being Toney and Sheppard coming off a serious injury.
Wandale had a quiet camp and he also has a injury.

Its definitely concerning. But he doesn't come across that way in his interviews and when he's on the field. Your certainly more tapped in to the organization than I am. But even if that is the case, they still could be holding him because his talent exceeds the comparable talent on the team despite his desire. Hell, didn't Curtis Martin say something similar about football not meaning much to him as he gave his HALL OF FAME speech? Its up to the coaches to bring it out of him. But the talent is there. Very frustrating.
He also could have very well been injured this entire time and they were playing it close to the vest last week for his 7 snaps and he re-agravated whatever he had going on.
regardless of how we choose to express it. He has teased us with special talent in very brief glimpses. I know he missed a lot of time in college too and had some maturity issues in college. I would never doubt the toughness or if a NFL player is injured. They have chosen a brutal business on and off the field.
But I think Toney gets a bad rap - pun intended - There was a highlight video of the missed FG that I saw this week and Toney was in the background in clear view. He sure looked like someone who cared about the outcome to me and was into the game even though he barely saw the field. He certainly wasn't pouting or acting out. However, if he can't play or doesn't want to play he's obviously worthless to the Giants. I'll trust the current FO and coaching staff to sort it out.

Seems to me that he is decreasing his trade value by the day.

He may simply be a sunk cost at this point.
Maybe but he can't be released because we don't have the cap space so what is the option to get him off this team?
I thought that drafting Robinson was a pretty bad sign for Toney. Before Robinson got hurt, he played every snap. I think the coaching staff was hedging their bets on Toney and I don't expect him here next year.
They can't cut him as the salary cap hit is just too much. I think they are doing the right thing right now. Don't play him very much until he shows he can do it. Anything they get out of him at this point they will take.

If you can’t get a guy off the team, you’d probably do exactly what Daboll did last week: minimal snaps, and try to utilize what he offers - for now
Schoen may regret not unloading him in the spring for whatever he could get.
How do you know he was offered anything. From the speculation, he was available.
This reminds me of the camp reports. We have Toney updates 24/7 and there is over reaction to every bit of news.
Why dump him for shit? Are we really missing out on Bachman being on the roster? Are we desperate for maybe a 6th round pick? The NFL is FLOODED with WRs the last few years. Teams are not giving up picks for WR like they usee to. The best course of action is working with him at this point.

every thing about this guy is entirely unpredictable - you never can know what the next scene will be in the Toney saga.
Am I the only person who thinks he just doesn't like to practice?
He would not be first athlete who loves to play but hates to practice. Is he one of those guys who...just says his hamstring hurts, cant practice. My shoe doesnt fit today, cant practice. My knee is sore cant practice. But he thinks that the coach will play him because he is talented?
Him getting 7 snaps last week was really strange and this what I thought could be the reason. If he was in trouble for not knowing playbook or something else, you would think it would not get dressed or sit a quarter etc.
However if he just says he is hurt so he doesnt have to practice then I could see how this could be a chess match for the coaches to deal with. Like if you are limited in practice because you are hurt? then you may be limited in games.
No one really wins here. I would just play him hurt or not hurt. Hope he does well enough to trade him if he does not fit the culture. If him not practicing effects his play, then IR him the next time he gets hurt.

Morissette Irony. Mr.Toney - you have neva been N da field at practice.
All the posters here have given Toney a medical checkup.
Oh please... what did have last? Seven different injuries? It's the same story now. The guy never practices and he rarely plays. There is a .pattern developing here.
I hope he makes the naysayers eat their words, but damn, get on the field.
We'll see if Daboll is going to regret giving him the benefit of a doubt this offseason. That stunt about avoiding reps in practice seems poisonous from the outside looking in. Can't let that go on while the rest of the guys are working.
and showcase what he can do, then trade him. Reason I say is, does anyone see this reaching the point of a 2nd contract with him? I don't. So best move is to trade him, but he is a talented player --let's at least try to get to a point where we can get something in return.
I'm rooting for him to work out, so don't get me wrong. I just don't see it working out here --we're living through our second year of this.
Everyone laughed it off at the time (and still might) but the guy spent his entire first practice as a NFL player fixing his shoes - which meant he basically wasn’t on the field. He’s constantly “checking” things to make sure he doesn’t play. They wanted him to play in the preseason finale and he refused. He’s constantly on Twitter and doing other things.
The guy doesn’t want to play football. He wants to have money and be somewhat of a famous person but would basically rather do anything else than get hit by a defensive player. End of story. Release him.

concerning that someone of his talent only played seven snaps last week, especially since we are lacking at WR. His talent was also again immediately apparent in the few snaps he did play. But let's see what happens in the next few games before condemning him and saying he should be off the team.

be surprised if the Giants extend him after his rookie deal. He may end up signing with another on a prove it deal afterwards and, true to form, the same issues will surface, and he'll probably be out of the league.
I would love for one of the beats to do a deep dive & find out WTF is going on. There has to be people within the walls of 1925 Giants Way who are willing to go off the record about KT89.

The Giants are stuck with him until they aren’t. But he’s not going to be gifted playing time and targets in the interim.
I’d buy him a china doll. I don’t understand why his teammates aren’t calling him out on his tired act. This guy is taking a roster spot that could be given to a football player. At what point do they put and end to this?
You didn't play me when I was good go, so now you can't play me because I say I am not good to go.
Think about that.
Once a head case always a head case.
Classic narcissism. Parcells said the best way to handle TO was to ignore his antics, even that's not a great solution. He told Jerry Jones he was the same lol
Daboll is stuck with him for now, and doesn't trust him for good reason, so IMO you'll continue to see the type of packages we saw last Sunday; 7 or so plays, end arounds, end around passing play, etc. Pretty telling his is now behind Slayton on the depth chart according to the media beats tweets.
I can come up with is that he's been dealing with a much more severe leg injury than anyone let on (torn hammy?) and still isn't recovered.
If so, its not really his fault (I don't believe in blaming players for injuries) but, at the same time, if he can't get on the field, he's useless to us.
you can see Toney leap about 3 feet with his arms raised and celebrating. That doesn't look like a malcontent. I think he may just have lost so much time in camp and is trying to catch up with the system. He is also banged up and the PR machine won't let him tell that to the press.

so that’s how he got injured

Wake up. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. And our WRs are junk and Toney the most talented of the bunch. It’s not that hard.
Our entire WR cords may be different week 1 in 2023.

I get that he's hard to root for, constantly hurt, doesn't seem willing or able to play through the dings that come with playing football. But that's the thing: Dings come with playing football. Guys tear ACLs in practice. Him being added to the injury report doesn't in itself seem like a big deal to me. He was listed as limited, not out. I don't care so much about whether he practiced today, I care whether he is available to play on Sunday and is willing to do what he's asked to do.
Something is clearly up with him, but Sundays are what really counts.

Except where did he get hurt, when did he get hurt?? Seems like this just popped up today. The guy is proving he cannot be counted on at all.
Is not the mantra you hear from Schoen and Daboll -- who didn't draft him.
Love to see him get his shit together because Toney's a hell of a weapon for a few plays every 6 games or so. But it's hard to see how he earns his snaps if he can't stay in the lineup.
I have had a number of people tell me football isn't that important to him.

Classic case of sunk cost fallacy. This guy is a complete zero. If they could have gotten a day two pick for him before the draft they should have. This team is desperate for WR talent, the guy is obviously talented, and he’s either injured or buried on the depth chart. It’s not that hard. But they’re going to end up having to cut him and have nothing to show for it.

They are if he’s too fucking stupid to learn the offense and be on the field full-time. Force feeding him snaps and targets to “showcase” him is asking for negative plays and turnovers at this point. There’s a reason he only got 7 snaps last week, and it isn’t because there’s 3 Justin Jefferson’s on the roster in front of him.
be surprised if the Giants extend him after his rookie deal. He may end up signing with another on a prove it deal afterwards and, true to form, the same issues will surface, and he'll probably be out of the league.
.
The way things are going so far, he may not be around until the end of his rookie deal. This regime didn't draft him, new sheriffs in town. He might want to get on the field this season? How the hell did he hurt his hamstring this time,
he was on the field for seven snaps, geez!
from a new bunch of coaches, staff, etc, he's pulling the same stunts and will probably continue as long as he's putting the money in his pockets. Think you could safely wager the contract he scored is what matters most to him, not the actual football part.

From reports on BBI, I remember reading Judge was the one who pushed the Toney pick. Very disappointing when there were better defensive options on the board.
Not every player is going to come in with a perfect personality. There are not many players on this roster with real plus NFL talent. Toney is one of them. It would help a lot if they can harness it - maybe its not possible- but managing and shaping personalities is part of the job
But, I’ll say that I think he would have drafted Parsons if he was making the call. I remember reading Peter King saying Gettleman coveted Parsons.
Also worth noting is how displeased Gettleman looked in the NYG war room last year. I was of the belief that Gettleman hurt Judge, but it’s also fair to say Judge may have hurt Gettleman just as much.

Mara did make that vague comment about the FO and coaching being on the same page finally, with the Buffalo guys.

There have been 19 games during Toney’s career. He’s been on the injury report in 14 of those weeks. Of the five weeks he wasn’t on the injury report, he left two of those games with injuries
Toney is nothing until he does something. Reporters should ignore him. I am not interested in a single thing that fucker has to say until he plays with some consistency. He doesn't deserve any free advertising AT ALL.
Kadarius Toney moving well early in practice. Seems to have a chance to be ready for Sunday. Not as optimistic on Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari, who were on the side with trainers
All the posters here have given Toney a medical checkup.
Either he's made of glass or his next injury will be a torn labia.
You choose which version you want to defend.
Cute.
Seriously. Either he's incredibly injury-prone, in which case, his reliability is questionable even if it's outside his direct control; or, he just refuses to play/practice through even the slightest discomfort, in which case his reliability is also questionable but it's completely his choice.
He's being paid to play football. He was drafted to be an offensive weapon. He's being given chances repeatedly, and for however many reasons, he either can't or won't participate. Does it matter whether he's fragile or whether he's faking? Does it even matter if he's just incredibly unlucky?
The only thing consistent with this kid is that there's always some reason why he can't practice or play. Why would any NYG fan defend that?

Does it even matter if 89 is just fragile, or whether he's just pretending to be fragile?
The reality is that he misses practice (and games) with the frequency of someone who is fragile. That part isn't up for debate, unless you want to somehow make a case that Toney has actually practiced and played as often as a healthy player would. Do you want to try to claim that? Go for it.

He wasn’t a real contributor until his 4th season.
Well, that's something to look forward to 2.5 years from now with Toney...
Well I personally am glad we didn’t give up on Toomer early.
The difference is Toomer still contributed and played very well as a returner. He was also available in games. And once he began starting games as a WR he became very impactful.
What’s holding back chucklehead now that he found the correct size cleats?

Anyone who thinks that Toney belongs in the same conversation as Toomer as anything other than a contrast is sullying Toomer's name whether they realize it or not.

What’s holding back chucklehead now that he found the correct size cleats?
and Toney has already produced more in the receiving game than Toomer did his first 2 seasons.
Toomer produced more all-around.
Toney of course could pass him by in year 2. But that would require him to, you know...play.
And sure enough Toney is 'questionable' on the Injury Report today
People don't understand football at all. it's a strategy game. Less tape teams have the better. I expect Tony to have a few games where he's the lead target once he's back and teams aren't ready for it

People hate on this kid like he is trying to get injured.
But then weirdly turn the other way when Shep misses 8 games a season.
How many snaps did Toney have on Sunday?
There are more than a few whispers that football isn't really that important to him.
Lemieux
ARob
Robinson
Kayvan
Ojulari
And now probably Toney
If you’re keeping track at home that’s 4 starters and 2 of our top receivers.
There are more than a few whispers that football isn't really that important to him.
He got the guaranteed cash tho ...

Perhaps a sampling of how limited #Giants Kadarius Toney was today ...
Toney was the first WR in line for an individual drill today. He stepped back and let Marcus Johnson go. Then stepped back and let another WR go in front. Then the drill ended and he didn't take a rep.

Reset the "Days without a Kadarius Toney injury" counter back to zero
7 snaps last week. And this with W Robinson going down in the middle of the 2QTR so it probably would have been even less...
Add 3 WRs to that list...
People hate on this kid like he is trying to get injured.
But then weirdly turn the other way when Shep misses 8 games a season.
There is zero question regarding Shepard's commitment to football and the team. Yes, he's been injured a lot. He's fought his way back from quite a bit. These aren't the same things.
There are more than a few whispers that football isn't really that important to him.
He needs football to support his non-existent rap career.
No one is crying, but it's not crazy to be concerned with this guy, who was a first rd pick and has barely played in 18 reg season games. It seems there's always something and as Eric said, things are so weird with him, we don't even know if he's really hurt.
I bet if his checks stop coming in he will have less injuries!

Nobody said this except for the voices in your head.
From my understanding, this wasn't a Dave pick. This was a Judge pick.
Kidding. Sort of.
Toney maybe out of football in a year.
He's my least favorite player on the entire roster, it's not even close, and I felt that way prior to training camp.
If it wasn't so politically incorrect I'd change his pronoun to her and call him a She like Parcells did back in the day to Terry Glenn.

I don't think Toney is trying to get injured. I also don't think he's trying to play through anything, either.
As every football coach who has ever lived has asked their players, "are you hurt, or are you injured?"
This.
I'm actually pulling for him, but my goodness...
How 'bout those Red Sox!!!

Of course he's hurt.
Doesn't he deserve the benefit of the doubt afterall?
If he goes out and puts up 150 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns in one game, that does not make up for missing 8 games.
He's got to be available... i.e. dependable.

The Giants need assets. Just cutting him is pointless. He's too talented not to give him a chance. If he plays well and can move him then great. And if you look at OTC, he would cost over $4 mil to cut. That isn't happening. The only option is a trade and he needs to increase his value to do that.

If you can’t get a guy off the team, you’d probably do exactly what Daboll did last week: minimal snaps, and try to utilize what he offers - for now
How do you know he was offered anything.

Coud be a combination of the cap hit from cutting him, especially with our cap constraints, and his undeniable talent.

every thing about this guy is entirely unpredictable - you never can know what the next scene will be in the Toney saga.

Exactly - that is only conclusion I have as well. Its a shame.
Why dump him for shit?
Well if the rumors are true (big if), then he undercuts what Daboll is trying to do.
If Judge did pound the table for Toney, what an awful error by him.
If he goes out and puts up 150 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns in one game, that does not make up for missing 8 games.
He's got to be available... i.e. dependable.
He is Odessa Turner that way, one big game a year (usually against Washington, then hurt and non existent. Turner though was not a 1st rd pick.
Oh please... what did have last? Seven different injuries? It's the same story now. The guy never practices and he rarely plays. There is a .pattern developing here.
I hope he makes the naysayers eat their words, but damn, get on the field.
But with Toney everybody is so sure he’s faking it. If he’s faking being hurt, then our medical staff and coaching staff are dumb as hell.

This staff is focused on winning football games, not showcase some bum for maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick before the trade deadline.

You didn't play me when I was good go, so now you can't play me because I say I am not good to go.

Classic narcissism. Parcells said the best way to handle TO was to ignore his antics, even that's not a great solution. He told Jerry Jones he was the same lol

If so, its not really his fault (I don't believe in blaming players for injuries) but, at the same time, if he can't get on the field, he's useless to us.

Except where did he get hurt, when did he get hurt?? Seems like this just popped up today. The guy is proving he cannot be counted on at all.
Love to see him get his shit together because Toney's a hell of a weapon for a few plays every 6 games or so. But it's hard to see how he earns his snaps if he can't stay in the lineup.

Wake up. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. And our WRs are junk and Toney the most talented of the bunch. It’s not that hard.
The way things are going so far, he may not be around until the end of his rookie deal. This regime didn't draft him, new sheriffs in town. He might want to get on the field this season? How the hell did he hurt his hamstring this time,
he was on the field for seven snaps, geez!
Nvm that. We could have had Rashod Bateman or Christian Darrisaw plus the Bears pick
From reports on BBI, I remember reading Judge was the one who pushed the Toney pick. Very disappointing when there were better defensive options on the board.
His heart isn't on football it seems. He won't get a second contract here.
Hopefully Thibs blows the doors off, and the Giants can flip Toney for a late round pick, and all of this is a bad dream in a few weeks.
Also worth noting is how displeased Gettleman looked in the NYG war room last year. I was of the belief that Gettleman hurt Judge, but it’s also fair to say Judge may have hurt Gettleman just as much.

Well I personally am glad we didn’t give up on Toomer early.

Is that a real question?
The reality is that he misses practice (and games) with the frequency of someone who is fragile. That part isn't up for debate, unless you want to somehow make a case that Toney has actually practiced and played as often as a healthy player would. Do you want to try to claim that? Go for it.

I read the Toney Tweet as a Puppy that can bite. Bill Parcells would Love Toney's attitude and would like to mold that to get the most out of him. Bill parcells use to say "if they don't bite when there puppies, they won't bite when there playing

Well I personally am glad we didn’t give up on Toomer early.
The difference is Toomer still contributed and played very well as a returner. He was also available in games. And once he began starting games as a WR he became very impactful.
What’s holding back chucklehead now that he found the correct size cleats?

and Toney has already produced more in the receiving game than Toomer did his first 2 seasons.

There have been 19 games during Toney’s career. He’s been on the injury report in 14 of those weeks. Of the five weeks he wasn’t on the injury report, he left two of those games with injuries
Lol you’re on fire today. The guy who says he’s glad we didn’t give up on Toomer, hates Toomer.
Gold.

Anyone who thinks that Toney belongs in the same conversation as Toomer as anything other than a contrast is sullying Toomer's name whether they realize it or not.

Toomer produced more all-around.
Toney of course could pass him by in year 2. But that would require him to, you know...play.
Both dealt with injuries early in their career.

blow out his knee (ACL tear) 7 games into his rookie year? Hardly an appropriate comparison over the first two years of a career.
Both dealt with injuries early in their career.
Yeah, but one of them got over it and pursued his career in football.
The other guy just likes being called 'questionable'...
