Anyone have any good recommendations?

TIA
The Batman was good

Even though it felt very much like an episode of Murder she wrote.
I finally got around to seeing

It was very good... Really looking forward to Nope, which I believe is available to rent now as well

I was disappointed with Thor, Love & Thunder

Ok, so I just looked through a list of movies released this year. I couldn't find even one I'd personally recommend.

Maybe the good ones slipped past me, but '22 feels like a down year for films.
second for "The Batman"

Nope was great. However its definitely a theater movie IMO. You will lose out on a lot of the experience at home. This is easily Peele's biggest movie - the scope in many of the scenes especially the last 45 minutes or so were a treat in IMax.

Not sure if it's available yet but I saw "NOPE" and absolutely loved it. It's instantly become one of my favorite recent movies and has great rewatchability imo (although there's nothing like the first time seeing it).

FWIW, I think "Get Out" was a classic and "Us" was just pretty good. I definitely like "NOPE" more than "Us". Hard to compare this with "Get Out" since that one slapped you in the face so hard with it's originality, but I just really liked "NOPE".

There's about a 30 min stretch in the middle of the movie with 3/4 consecutive unforgettable scenes.
Top Gun II

was ok, nothing like advertised but worth the rent. The Batman was good enough to watch twice....
There'a
Semipro Lineman : 9/16/2022 4:00 pm : link
a movie called 1917 that's a good coming of age story about a family reunion set against WWI. That's a good one
Top Gun 2 was a top 5
UConn4523 : 9/16/2022 4:01 pm : link
movies theater experience for me. It’s behind Avatar and Fury Road but right with something like Interstellar.

I wouldn’t have changed a single thing about Maverick, pretty much the perfect action movie.

Ahh the movie where Robb Stark asks someone to deliver a message to Tommen Baratheon.
Late to the party on this one

but I liked Hustle.

Don't research it or watch any trailers. The first 10 minutes will throw you off but it is a fun ride from there on.

PTA is just the best. Also, seconding the Peele comments above - Nope was awesome in theaters.

Yeah, Hustle was great. And on the topic of surprisingly good basketball-related movies, The Way Back with Ben Affleck is very well done.
I’m waiting impatiently to see nope
djm : 9/16/2022 6:10 pm : link
It’s not for normal ppc rent yet — it’s still 19.99 not yet 5.99. I’m tempted to just spend the 20 but there’s Yankee baseball on so I’ll wait it out a little longer. There are a few directors for me that are must watch and peele is one of them.

100% agree. And one of the best parts was that it was just a movie. No political agendas or nonsense. Just a solid movie that everyone can relax and enjoy.

I'm shocked it didn't get many complaints about being woke, what with the female pilot.

Thor was horrendous. I thought it was a parody at first
Knives Out

If you like amusing a bit-over-the-top but a fun who-dunnit.
RRR
JoeMoney19 : 9/18/2022 8:37 am : link
One the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s on Netflix but if it ever makes it’s way back to theaters I will 100% go see it there too. It’s awesome enough watching at home; I can only imagine how epic it is in a theater.

It’s three hours long, but there is a very obvious intermission point halfway through, so it’s easy to break it up into two sessions of viewing. That’s what I did the second time I watched it (I planned to the first time but couldn’t get myself to go to bed before finishing it).

It has some of everything you could want for in a movie.
Was almost going to se RRR in theaters
UConn4523 : 9/18/2022 8:53 am : link
but it played for like a week and couldn’t make it. Will check it out at home one night.
More Please!

If you want a good laugh, look up the critical drinkers review for the movie. I enjoyed the movie, but every point they made was correct.

Oh and something I watched this weekend
eli4life : 9/22/2022 9:43 pm : link
When was the last time anyone here watched the original war of the worlds?
I watched Prey and Nope.
bradshaw44 : 9/22/2022 11:03 pm : link
Prey was entertaining. Really liked the affects with the predator. Do NOT like when movies go way over the top on a persons strength. That girl could not have done the things they had her doing.

Nope started off strong. But fell of a cliff and ended terrible. It got positive reviews here at BBI which is why I watched it. It’s why I watched both movies. Y’all failed me ha.

They take it way too serious. Columbo was an amazing TV show and you knew right from the start even if you missed teh 1st 5 minutes who the killer would be.

Secondly, they are talking about you need sympathetic characters- actually NOT for an over-the-top movie. It would then make Marta's last comment to Benoit completely irrelevant. That's what makes the exact end so tremendous as she is drinking from the cup and they all look up.

And they seriously say they can't keep track of the characters? Well if that's the case he had to be drunk watching the movie. He couldn't remember how Linda made her money.

After the other one said he can't remember who was the sons and daughters vs the parents I had to stop listening to them.

They just aren't very smart people.
