NGT- QB prospects

charles355 : 9/17/2022 10:30 pm
#1 Stroud pick 1
#2 Young top 3 Pick
#3 Levis .... our target
#4 Van Dyke overated
#5 # 6 #7 # 8 not an upgrade over Daniel Jones
We really don’t know any of this

Yet.
I would say early returns
allstarjim : 9/18/2022 12:47 am : link
Are that Stroud is separating himself but obviously there is a long way to go, Ohio State needs to get into the meat of their schedule and see how he does when the talent on the other side of the ball is tougher.

I think what we can clearly take away from early season results is that Anthony Richardson is clearly not ready, and probably needs at least one more year in school.
Correct on Richardson

and Stroud. Young is 2nd right now. Levis did not look good last week, Van Dyke did not look good tonight

While all these guys are better than this year's drafted QBs, it isnt looking good so far after Stroud and Young
Hendon Hooker 3rd straight strong week

Playing Florida next week.
I don't follow college FB so I really don't know but
Giantsfan79 : 9/18/2022 2:40 am : link
I think the Giants have to look at a two year cycle if a Manning/Luck/Lawrence type prospect is available next year.

Is there a guy next year who could be that good?
Garrett Shrader
BlueinRoch : 9/18/2022 7:45 am : link
I don't watch much college football outside of Syracuse and Army, so I'm no expert admittedly. Does anyone else here have Shrader on your radar? He transferred from Mississippi St. last season and looks like the real deal to me. Arm, mobility, toughness, leadership all are there. We also like our Syracuse guys. Any thoughts?
Seattle starting Geno Smith, and
Pepe LePugh : 9/18/2022 7:56 am : link
They have their own first plus Denver’s if they need to trade up. Houston has their own pick plus Cleveland’s. Forget about top 2 QBs. Detroit and Philly also have two first rounders if They néed to move on from Goff/Hurts. Reviews I’ve seen for Leis sounds like a less talented version of DJ.
If Jones has a solid year, I don’t see Giants in position to draft an upgrade. FA only slightly more likely with Lamar Jackson the only possibility in sight.

I was not that impressed by Stroud against notre dame
I think I ll wait a bit

Before watching the college games anticipating the Giants next quarterback.

Giants are 1-0 and there is an enthusiasm that s been missing for most of a decade.

But do appreciate the time updates on who the quarterback prospects might be, just hoping Giants aren’t in a position to draft any of them
Agree on Stroud being 1

But Caleb Williams is arguably the best QB in nation for USC
Just not sure if he’s draft eligible

Looks like he was a true freshman last year.
Williams 2024 draft eligible

Way too early to grade these 2023 QB prospects
Miami WR’s were awful last night. I am still intrigued by Van Dyke
In a matchup like Bama vs. ULM or OSU vs. Toledo…
Big Blue Blogger : 9/18/2022 9:06 am : link
How much can you learn about a quarterback? What do you even look for? His ability to hit a wide-open first read from a clean pocket? His ability to outrun linebackers who were one-star recruits? I guess arm strength, mechanics and release speed are scoutable in a blowout, but even those aspects of his game require the caveat that he is operating under ideal conditions.

Not meaning to be dismissive. It just seems like these matchups don’t offer much insight on future NFL performance.

Which is why I don't use those games. In these threads I talk about the quarterbacks who are playing decent teams that week

Ryan - Stroud had a mediocre first game last year too. Did you see his last game of last year? He threw for thousands of yards and hundreds of touchdowns in their bowl game against a good Utah defense

I think Shrader is a junior. if he continues to improve as he has this year, he might be in the mix in '24. The QB from Purdue O'Connell (Senior, I think) looked pretty sharp.. Quick release. Haven't seen any other Purdue games

Go Cuse!
Whoever we get, I’d like to get Brock Bowers, …

the Georgia TE for him to throw to.

This is 100% correct. It's way too early to make any conclusions on these QBs. I am not really a Van Dyke guy (yet), but last night was one off-night. That happens at every level. Fortunately, there is plenty of season to rebound and make improvements/adjustments.

Anthony Richardson, however, is digging himself a deep hole. He had another poor game yesterday against South Florida. So, he really needs to right the ship or needs to set his sights on the 2024 draft class.

Absolutely nothing, you are right. Which is why QBs from big powerhouses sometimes get overrated (Haskins, Leinert, Jamarcus Russell, etc etc).
