What they ask of him should tell you what they think of him, at least at this point. The game plan seems to prioritize easy completions and I forget who but a play by play guy interviewed Jones and he talked about really simplifying things.
He’s shown to be a game manager. You ask him to minimize risks because he doesn’t have the ability to make up for it with consistent big plays.
He’ll most likely have a few games where things click and he throws for 300 yards and a few touchdowns, he’ll also have a few stinkers. Thats what you get with average quarterbacks.
He would need to put up something like 4000 Yards, 30 + TD’s and under 10 picks for an entirely new regime to commit to him. Its not gonna happen.
This offense needs the run game to get going to really build momentum, every other team in the league knows that too. Will be interesting to see how they counter that.

RE: RE: RE: If the Giants end up building around Barkley and Jones
I'd argue the nucleus is already here. Next year wouldl NOT be a rebuilding year. It's likely a "add your final pieces year" to make a real run for the postseason.
Lol, if they do that, all the good work they did this year will be wasted.
Jones made a play and didn't turn the ball over, but other than that he was horrible And Barkley will never be worth a second contract.
DJ played horrible? If you look at his numbers they’re in line with other QB’s who played today. Get a freakin clue Jethro.
Good post. I am no Jones fan but they are going to need to call more long throws just to loosen up the defense.
Of course, seeing Jones threw inaccurately to a double covered Shepard in one of the few long pass plays today is going to give the coaches second thoughts about even doing that. But they need to go vertical a bit more, despite that.
biggest position group question marks came up big today. TEs and CBs played extremely well and probably won the game for us.
I'll be interested to read Sy's review of the OL, particularly the play of our left guards. I don't much like the rotation system, and want Ezeudu or Bredeson to win the position outright until Lemieux can come back. I wonder which one played better today?
He & Glowinski were definitely weak links on the OL
That’s what I saw as well.
I’d bet if they stay in contention it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brederson takes over at C with the rookie being the LG. We probably have to live with Glowinowski if and until Shane comes back.
There were some speed rushes that were getting past him. Hopefully, his ankle wasn't acting up.
As far as Daniel Jones goes, I'd compare him to a "lite" Alex Smith. If you build a solid running game and have some decent WR's, he can be effective, but he can't carry a team on his back. Again, to be fair, he's been cursed with subpar offensive lines (even today, the line was leaky again).
I expect the same thing to happen to Jones that Alex Smith went through in KC, a rookie QB will replace him.
Glowinski started every game for a good Colts squad
3 seasons in a row. He is a legit NFL starter. It would be a surprise if he was benched. More likely they need to work on issues and communication, keeping him in the line up.
Defense was really gutsy today down three starters and then 4 when Williams went out. This D is going to play hard and they are coached well.
Offense needs to adjust some things. They just don't have many options in the pass game and the OL is spotty in PB'ing. Like to see some different formations that are run based and build your pass game off of it. JS should look into a blocking TE that can catch a few passes.
At least now this is not a 27-30 pt. team. Offense needs more ball control (with some shots) and let the D do its things imv.

Pete you are 100% right. Improvement? Toney maybe WanDale Maybe Golladay is done Shepard is good but not a real threat. We have no true #1 I m actually surprised we don't see more Slayton with his speed.
Carolina has a pretty stingy D. They gave up 23.5 pts/game but held teams to about 300 yards. You heard the announcers say BD was worried about their speed and he recognized they had talent.
The guy had a 47yd reception called back on the basis of tacky-tack BS. He was also wide open quite a few times today.
Toney is going to be key if we have hopes of beating better teams. If he can't play games this year I'll jump on the bandwagon but all the vitriol over a guy who was injured a lot his rookie season is too much. He's far and away their most talented wr

That was just a terrible call on that play Sills looking at the QB, and the DB runs into him. That far down the field he obviously wasn't looking to pick the DB..
I am rooting for Jones to succeed as QB for our team
A one-point win on the the road where a superior opponent fell short on a last-minute drive, then an ugly three-point win at home where the defense and special teams made up for missed opportunities on offense.
Jones made a nice play at the end with his athleticism to get the final first down, but his processing is still way too slow, and he almost had a game killing pick six at the end of the first half.
JFC, can we please stop with the “what if?” bullshit?? There was no pick 6. Period.
He also got cheated out of a reception for 40 yards to Toney if not for the ridiculous OPI call. Should he get “credit” for that if he gets ripped for an “almost pick 6”?
Was nice by Jones but picking up 7 on the drive before so Gano could at least attempt the FG was just as big. Missed a lot of throws? Again in what game? While he was running for his life. He actually threw the ball away which was impressive. The kid has balls and plays his ass off. Barkley and him no doubt would have better stats if the line blocked better. But the did nut up when they had to. Great win.

He had Toney open a handful of times today and didn't see him. He looks to run with it too early and too often.

He missed a lot of big throws in this game. You could see it easily from the end zone. The Giants are 2-0 despite of Daniel Jones and is at always fun to root for
Was not bad today or last week..Could he play better?? You bet !!..What can the coaches do about that ?? Get better routes for the WR's to run in the 12 to 20 yd lenght..Get the O Line to give DJ just one more second to 1 1/2 more time to throw the ball..1 to 1 1/2 seconds is an eternity in football..
Especially for a QB with limited skill in surveying
the field during a pass play..last week there were some pretty good QB's who took it on the chin for a loss..Jones still has a clean chin for 2 games..Give the kid some slack, when slack is due..

Any worse than Herbert’s pick 6 to lose his game?
You might be the dumbest poster on this board which is saying something. Who’s burner are you?
he is a middling QB... no more, no less. Don't understand why people can't just accept that and start viewing him through that lens.
he likely won't be the QB next year but for this year let's enjoy this coaching staff (who seem like massive upgrade), enjoy Barkley's resurgence and hopefully enjoy a competitive, possibly winning year.
Jones will frustrate and disappoint but if he plays more mistake free ball than not (like today) than we should be in most games.

Think the honor has been presented to you. Making stuff up every week about open receivers, plays that never occur, and slurping on Herbert.
we keep winning in spite of him trying to literally throw away the game to the other team. We are a lucky 2-0 and it disgusts me we are wasting such great effort on the DEF and ST with such a pedestrian QB. I genuinely hope Tyrod has meaningful minutes this season so we can make the playoffs.
Qb in the NFL just like week won. Some say he misses receivers, some say he should run more or run less, How about there is no time to scan the field when the pass rush is coming up the middle. When you learn that and fix the problem then you can evaluate. Others say we have the worse receivers in the league. You think that helps? How many times did the announcers say Barkley is constantly missing pass blocks? Wake up.

It is okay just say a player had a bad play and got away with it. But it's still on the player. When QBs throw INTs its typically either a bad throw or a bad read.

What you said is the same fuck*ng thing said about Phil Simms in 1981. The Giants can win with Jones. He can be average and efficient like he was today.
Gotta be Oshane Ximines right? He’s really stepped up. Giants had 2 rookies starting in the secondary and it seems to me they had no miscues. Tight Ends are playing relatively well.
Xavier McKinney is a player. Gettleman’s tenure is undoubtedly a failure but i did like his last few drafts, would be nice if this staff can continue to get more out of these guys.
Its nice to not have excuse making. Daboll & Schoen really have given incumbents a chance to show themselves. No excuses to not win even in year 1. Find a way.

This is all true, its also true he takes too long to pull the trigger at times and he has zero pocket feel. He doesn’t know when to slide up, left, right etc.
Football is a very complex game. Its never typically one thing. On some plays he has no time, on other plays he can certainly do more.
is a very limited QB who is being further limited by the lack of talent we have at WR and bad pass blocking by the OL. It was painfully obvious that he wasn't seeing open receivers.
You have ajr on here, already setting it up to be a long week of bitching about Jones and making up stats to support why he's terrible.
I doubt he'll say anything about Jones having the highest pressure rate in the league this far on almost 70% of his throws though. He'll have you believe there's a clean pocket and Jones is just terrible - and we keep winning despite him.
Not sure how you win "despite" a guy closing out the last drive with the winning first down or who made the last FG possible, but he'll be here to tell you.
I'm sorry he's having such a tough time with the team at 2-0.
Seems like recent Giants teams were always inventing new ways to lose. Not this crew.
Without their two best pass rushers, starting a rookie CB, an OL that cannot pass protect yet, and a gameplan designed to stop Barkley -- which was mostly effective, THIS team is finding ways to win.
Will they beat good teams this way? Probably not, but they should get better as they go, and as guys come back from injury.
Was it ugly? Yes. They're just squeaking by, but it's still huge. Finding ways to win is what good teams do. The Giants aren't really good yet, but they're starting to look like they're at least on the way towards being good.
