best take of the Blake Martinez situation came from GBN who speculated that the Giants were being polite with their explanation about why they cut him instead of saying that he was still hampered by his injuries

an above average LB
If he’s close to healthy - then it has to be either:
-that he is being unrealistic about money or
-will only play for certain teams?

This. I think he's knee has sapped his quickness, which was a huge part of his game. He was going to get buried just like Golladay has and he came to an agreement with the coaches and front office to let him go so he could try to find another job. The Giants didn't say anything other than he wasn't a fit so it didn't hinder him. They did this with Antonio Pierce years ago when his neck was the reason they cut him but he wanted to keep playing, so they blamed it on the cap or wanting to get Jonathan Goff more playing time or whatever in order to help him find another job in the NFL.
Maybe he's waiting for a role to open up. Vets do that sometimes. Maybe an ILB on a contending team gets hurt and there's a good role for him somewhere
Perhaps he is stil trying to come back from his injury and is because
I started a thread a week after he was released saying it was telling that he wasn’t signed. People jumped all over it saying the league was just waiting a week.
But if he was worthy of a starting spot someone wouldn’t have cared about the guaranteed money.
Clearly he’s not the player he was, probably due to injuries.
As Eric said, it’s not that he used to suck, he was very good when healthy.
interesting....I didn't read that
But not very good? Nah, can't buy those noodles.
Same here. Made most of his tackles 4-5 yards off LOS

Same as every other guy who is not signed

Minority around here, but I never thought he was very good.

I am with you. Tackles are the most overrated stat of all time. If you are a lb and making tackles 6-7 yards off the los, you should not be applauded.
That was the knock on him when we signed him.
It proved to be a myth.
Some revisionist history going on here. Martinez was a stud in 2020.
