DJ Run

NJLCO : 9/19/2022 9:32 am
Listened to his post game interview and I love that they gave him options.
He made the right decision. Just for kicks did anyone else see how wide open Sills was in the middle of the field on that play? He might have scored
He also might have

Decided to run backwards and not even gotten the first down.
Also Sheppard

Who got stopped a half yd short on another play didn’t have the balls to put his head down. We are not dealing with the best receivers around folks.

Never say Shepard doesn't have balls. I agree he should have had the 1st. He probably thought he did and went down. Shepard is the one WR willing to take on any defender to make a block.
The running lane was wide open
Mike from Ohio : 9/19/2022 9:39 am : link
it was the right decision to run rather than throw to Sills. They don't need a score to win, and if Sills drops it the Panthers get the ball back.
You can say a lot about Sheppard
ajr2456 : 9/19/2022 9:51 am : link
But not having balls isn’t one of them.
Running was the right thing to do.
Bleedblue10 : 9/19/2022 9:54 am : link
I know Jones has been playing very up and down in the first two games but I have a few questions. I am reading there are receivers open and he isn't pulling the trigger. Is this true? I don't want to go all the way back to his rookie year but this wasn't an issue of his coming in. If anything he never met a throw he didn't like. This being the case would mean he's more screwed up mentally(Judge and Garretts influence?) and idk if that is something that can be fixed. I want the kid to succeed badly but he just doesn't have it. We see the good but for all the good he shows he always brings the bad too.

I'd be interested in Sy's take on this from watching the all 22. The TV broadcasts seem to show one or two examples each week of him not seeing someone open right away, but without seeing the rest of the field or where the QB looked first or where pressure was coming from, it is hard to say if he should have seen it.

Strange comment.

Despite being 6' nothing and less than 200lbs he has been one of the better blocking WRs in the league for a few years.

look DJ definitely made some bad yesterdsay
gidiefor : Mod : 9/19/2022 10:03 am : link
his run to seal the game was not one of them

I thought it was the right decision, and he slid after he got the yardage too. Smart play

There isn't a game played on Saturday or Sunday that the QB on any team misses seeing a "wide open" WR. We just like to pick on Jones. He has his progressions. If that WR comes open before or after Jones makes his read it will look bad. The good news is that this coaching staff has him more prepared then previous ones. As the year goes on, he may start to see these sooner as he gets more looks with each WR. And that is a big "may."

We really don't know, only the coaches do. They know what the progressions are and what they are asking Jones to do. The people complaining about this are rewatching the plays again in slo-mo and finding receivers they think are open. However its obviously different on the field and we really don't know if Jones really had the time and lane to throw it there due to the pass rush, don't understand the passing progressions/routes and where he is being asked to look first, etc.

Every play is designed to stretch things and create openings. If a guy goes deep many times its to open the underneath route, which is the first progression. So the QB goes there because that is how its drawn up, but people say "the deep guy was open and he missed him" etc.
That run to seal the game

might literally be the most clutch play of his entire career thus far.

Every QB has those missed plays every game. The announcers pointed out a couple receivers who Rodgers missed last night. The problem I have is that unless fans no the play and the spcific progressions within those plays, it is very difficult to know if any QB is missing a guy.

A perfect example is the missed Sills throw last week. That is the altert route that QBs rarely look to. Now, to DJ's credit he learned from that and went to SS later in the game. But the point is oftentimes the criticism of fans of QBs missing open receivers does not carry much weight to me.

not no
Question why are the biggest plays for DJ going to James and Sills?
TheBlueprintNC : 9/19/2022 10:17 am : link
Answer -They have been practicing together the whole offseason both are healthy and practicing and understand the routes to run.. Sheppard even admitted he ran the wrong routes, you think that hasnt happened with Toney?

DJ is in his 3rd Offense scheme with his 3rd coaching staff without any true weapons -Barkley

Yet here he is 2 and 0 and continued to bring the team down the field when they needed it. We know who he is -The guy has guts and is able to keep coming back.. what else do you need. Is he franchise material? We are learning that he can win. Lets see with some more practice time w WRs in this scheme with this line.. He also has a coach with balls. IE Golladay sitting.. DJ finally has a middle rank NFL line with some growing pains but he gets time and throws lazers..Did you not see that pass to James over the middle between 3 defenders on 3rd and forever?

Now i agree he is a little slow recognizing and adjusting to the defense, who wouldnt be? It took Allen 3 yrs to understand tthe Offense.. DJ is in his 3rd Offense in 5 yrs with WRs that dont know where they are supposed to be right now.. Let them practice some more and lets see -but I like his mental toughness.

The D is without any rushers and looks formidable, cant wait when it all starts coming ttogether.. Finally best ST play in a long time.. Lets Go!!

I vote for his 4th quarter, last minute TD run in Tampa on the very first game he played. Now that was very exciting and satisfying, especially after the great game he had.

They were showing looks that Aaron Rodgers missed last night.

Jones is playing a little bit better this season. A little bit can go a long way.

Yeah I vote for that game too. It was his first game action. He rallied the team back and put it in his shoulders. I think the entire fan base had wet dreams that night
