Despite being in in only his third season with the Giants, Gano has already established himself as a prolific long-ball kicker.
Yesterday he nailed his 13th and 14th 50+ yard FGs in a Giants uniform, the most, by far, in franchise history. Josh Brown had eight in his time as a Giant.
His 51 & 56 yard FGs yesterday marked the fourth time he has hit from 50+ yards in the same game. The only other player to do so was Raul Allegre at Philadelphia in 1987.
Gano had a three 50+ FG game at Dallas in 2020 and he had two 50+ FG games in 2021 at Washingtoin and at Dallas.
His 56 yarder - which was his first game-winner as a Giant - ties for the second longest FG in Giants history. Ali haji-Sheikh hit two 56 yarders in 1983. Aldrick Rosas had a 57-yard FG against the Bears in 2018.
I'd expect Gano's performance yesterday will make him a front runner for the NFC ST POW award. He's already won that twice at a Giant: 2020 Week 9 at Washington and 2021 Week 7 vs Carolina.
It was officially 56 yards.

Injury - he missed the end of 2018 and all of 2019, and they decided to move on. Can't necessarily blame them after missing more than a year, but it didn't work out too well.
Gano since leaving Carolina:
FG%: 92.8%
40 - 49: 100%
50+: 77.8%
Carolina since releasing Gano (2020 - 2022)
FG% 85.5%
40 - 49: 89.5%
50+: 36.4%
Carolina's also gone through 5 different kickers in that time, including Giants legend Ryan Santoso.
The crazy thing about Gano's success here is all the kicks have been so freaking important, too, because the Giants can't score TDs. Every FG is a must have.
Great kicker but even greater guy.

Yep, he did that when I was there. He was out there in the sun until every kid had an autograph and anyone who wanted a photo got one.
Tynes has to be in there.

He's not. Tynes wasn't as good as Bahr.

Statistically Tynes was much better than Bahr. Tynes was an 83% on FGs vs Bahr's 75%. Certainly Bahr's performance vs San Francisco in the 1990 NFCCG earns him his place on the pedestal in NGY lore, but Tynes is the only kicker in NFL history to successfully make 2 FGs in OT.
They both had icewater in their veins.

I don't care what anyone says. Gun to my head--life or death--if you ask me who I want to kick a FG for me to win the game rom 42 yards between Bahr and Tynes, it's Matt Bahr.
Also remember that Tynes missed his share of kicks in that NFC Title Game in GB before making that 47 yarder (he should have made that 37-yarder at the end of regulation). The pressure was in a nebulous kind of zone when he ran onto the field. But life or death, it's Bahr. No question.

Babe missed one at SF too. If I remember correctly there was a very quote after the game where Steve DeOssie or one of the other Giants told Bahr after the game that he intentionally missed the one early in the 4th so he could be the hero at the end. :)

The snap was rushed on the one Bahr missed from 37 yards out because the Giants caught the Niners with too many men on the field if I remember correctly. I don't think Tynes makes that 42 yarder to end the game in San Fran.
There have been five game winning FGs by the Giants from 50 yards and beyond:
11/4/76 Joe Danelo vs Washington 50 yards at 4:32 game tied 9-9 (first win at Giants Stadium)
11/15/87 Raul Allegre 52 yards at Philadelphia at 0:32 game tied 17-17
9/11/89 Raul Allegre 52 yards at Washington 0:00 game tied 24-24
11/28/93 Brad Daluiso 54 yards vs Phoenix Cardinals 0:32 Giants trailing 16-17
9/18/22 Graham Gano 56 yards vs Carolina 3:34 game tied 16-16
