obviously week 2 isn't complete yet so that could change but pretty impressive to see him move up again this week despite facing Burns. Out of 66 OTs he has the 2nd highest grade in the running game (88.3) and 5th highest grade in pass pro (82.8) for an over all grade of 89.

hopefully neal makes it null/void. in terms of physical tools he might be a better fit for RT.
also today is actually Neal's 22nd birthday so he's a year and a half younger than Slater and 6 years younger than Tunsil so he probably fits better with the timeline.
right now PFF has 4 guys graded in pro bowl range (maybe 5 if you count ximines but it will take at least 5-6 games before i believe in that). Thomas is the top OT, Jackson is hovering around top 10 CBs, Williams is hovering top 10 DL, and Barkley is the 6th best RB. thomas and maybe barkley maybe have an outside shot at all pro which i think would be the first all pro season a nyg has had since barkley as a rookie. lawrence may also have an outside shot at pro bowl consideration, he's graded more like top 20-25 right now but he's looked better than that (he had mayfield dead to rights on that 1 missed sack and will now need to step up with williams probably missing time).
It turns out Thomas was injured, but he was brutal in several games. Without the benefit of all the information, it didn't look good for him.
The issue in retrospect was Judge and the staff should have held him out or maybe expedited the procedure he ended up needing.
Thomas is a different player when he's healthy.
Tunsil absolutely but had they taken Slater they wouldn’t have Neal, Aaron Robinson, and Toney. I know Toney isn’t worth mentioning right now but Neal has a chance to be just as good as Slater.
the atmosphere at the stadium was more electric than it has been in years. i hope the crescendo continues.
Looking forward to SL coming back. Thomas has said those two had great chemistry. Hopefully it helps the running game.
Just like QB, being in unfavorable down/distance is not a friend. AT in his first year was exposed to that. Tough position (LT) for a first year player in those circumstances.
Stay healthy big man.

It's really noticeable when you watch from the all-22 behind the LOS angle. He's just so much smoother and cleaner with his movements than Evan Neal. Nothing surprising about that as Thomas moved like Neal as a rookie, but it's still really eye-opening to see just how much smoother a great OT is vs. a rookie developing OT.
He's exactly what we've needed for a decade. Great to have him. My only concern with him is that he seems to deal with a lot of nagging injuries, hopefully it doesn't pop up too often moving forward.
Game thread people, they're never happy.
Parsons started off on Wirfs when they played Tampa, was shut down..found success when he moved to the other side(he got 1 sack vs their starter at left tackle who then left game with injury and he got one more vs backup left tackle)

With Neal's balance issues still something he is working on, I'm pretty scared about Parsons' speed off the edge in this matchup. Plenty of doubles and chips will be needed.

Yep and to think there was actually a poster or two here during the off-season saying he wasn’t and the Giants should trade him.

would love to see the threads on him in the first half of 2020 and preseason 2021. Seems a lot of those posters are quiet early on this year

We all knew he was playing on a bum lower leg last year and why his run blocking suffered.

Last year's games
Vs Nate Solder 8 tackles, 3 QB hits, no sacks
Vs Andrew Thomas 1 assist tackle, no QB hits, no sacks
Curious how pressures were but PFR doesn't show that. Still, he faced Glennon most of the time in those games at QB.

Glad to see Thomas getting some love outside of these walls.

Yes there was.
I’m not going to name names and he was certainly entitled to his opinions but he did say the Giants should break it all down and that included trading AT. I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers that.

Seems like other teams are more proactive about extending players before they hit free agency, ie Dallas and Philly. What would it take to extend guys like Thomas, and maybe McKinney or Dex if you’re sure you want to keep them here? Do you have to give them top 10 or top 5 money at the position? Or even more? Even so, it’ll probably be less than what they’d be worth in the open market down the line. Would the savings be worth the downside risk of possible serious injury?
Our cap will be in good enough shape to extend any of these guys. Would you?
Why don't you post some?... Please include handles. Thanks!

I was just about to post this..EXACTLY how I remember it....not a player on the roster worthy of a spot on an NFL roster...not a single one.
I'd probably be willing to move him for a second or third. I don't think there's a player on the roster who is worth a first rounder on his own.

100% but not everyone pretends they didn't.
i generally agree. some positions are harder to quantify than others but when you look at their top 10 and it's correctly identifying mostly the best real world players that's usually a position where the methodology is workable (and since most plays the OL is in a 1 on 1 with the guy in front of them it's doable).
linebackers and safeties (and qbs/wrs) are much harder since their responsibilities are so much harder to interpret without knowing the playcall.
I also think the OL is a position where it's easy to focus on a bad play or two to think a player had a poor game. The eye test can lead you astray unless you really zero in on a position the whole game (which I don't think anyone here really does).

PFF data can be a little messy but its directionally correct over a long term. Even if he's not the best, he's good and thats an important building block

Great point. I trust very few fans with specific OL observations. If someone smart says they rewatched the game and focused on one guy, I put weight in that. Otherwise, not so much
PFF may have its issues, but they have people watching the guy on every play which is way more than most fans do.

You obviously try to maximize the return in every trade and ask for the moon. I'm not as high on Thomas as a lot of people here are; I think he's overrated because he's one of the few players and Gettleman picks that's not completely terrible.
I'd probably be willing to move him for a second or third. I don't think there's a player on the roster who is worth a first rounder on his own.

Ha…you got me. You all found 1 person saying he would trade everybody including AT. What a shock who it was as well since you all have Terps burned in your minds.
Anybody else you can find that wasn’t giving you a quick hot take?

Sometimes the archives just get changed at will. You know the type.
The thread you posted has some good comments about rebuilding though.
Burns going underneath and around him was a sick move…

Well all I said was there was actually a poster or two. Never said it was a common thought among posters. Just it was definitely said about trading AT.
Why? You really need to brush up on your reading comp. That wasn’t my intent at all and even said I didn’t want to mention any names. If I wanted to take a shot at him wouldn’t I have mentioned his name instead of doing the opposite?
That’s two things in my short simple post you’ve completely turned into what you wanted it to mean and you were off base on both.

That's a different position from saying someone is a bad player. It's more of an argument that everyone, even (or maybe especially) our good players, should be on the market for trades and draft picks for the new regime to acquire the talent they like most and maximize the time in which most of them will be under contract simultaneously as we start to become good.
Seemed me to me like cleaning house from anything DG and not necessarily looking at AT objectively but through an anti DG lens. Maybe I’m wrong but that was my take.

Easy does it eman. My comment was more to the pile-on guys that followed onto your post and not so much you.
Let's just say you all had Terps in mind whether you called him out specifically or not...
:-)

Of course I knew it was him but having it turn into what you described is exactly one of the reasons why I didn’t mention his name.
Regardless of what you’re thinking, my post was more about what was said than who said it and I wanted to keep it about that.
I might not agree with GT a lot but I respect his opinions and right to them and another reason why I didn’t mention his name.
It’s all good though and just want to be clear on my intentions with that post.
It he continues to trend upward…someone will have an open check book.

The Giants can afford him if they're not recklessly stupid with their cap dollars like they were with Gettleman. I imagine Schoen recognizes the importance of being able to retain a franchise LT; which it appears AT is quickly becoming.

How is that sad? Keeps trending like he is and that is money well spent on a young core player at arguably the most valuable position on the roster besides QB...
