"The NBA set the draft age limit at 19 years old in 2005. Silver said in July that he was “hopeful” for the rule changing in the next CBA cycle, and both sides appear motivated to reduce the age eligibility for the draft."

Isn't 18 is the legal age to work in the US besides cannabis and alcohol?
They are forcing athletes to basically do a year free to help the NCAA.
These old money grabs on the backs of amateur athletes need to stop already.
The NFL needs to be next.

It’s not worth the cost of litigation and I don’t think the courts can even stop the NBA from having an age limit

Pro sports isn’t a right. It’s no different than a company requiring a degree to get hired in X field. That said I agree with letting kids forego college.
Legally, age-based restrictions are limited significantly, while there aren't similar limitations on qualification-based restrictions. That said, the NFL's eligibility restrictions were upheld in court in 2004 (Maurice Clarett sued and lost). As current events tell us, different judges see things differently, but seems likely that precedent would hold.
of which, quite the fall from grace... kid was at one point being called the next big thing. I don't want HS basketball and his measurables were horrendous (so I'm not sure how this was the case) but it was

It will make it difficult for teams who will have to evaluate high
I would argue for basketball it would be easier AAU teams now are allstar games and well coaches.
Probably better than watching Duke or UNC beating on subpar D1 schools.
This is exactly why I stopped watching the NBA. They are too immature, very few are mature enough at 19, let alone 18, they should be 21. In my opinion. I'm talking from a basketball perspective alone. The sport is no longer a team sport, its all superstar driven. It has zero appeal for me. I was spoiled watching the Russel Celtics and later the Reed Knicks. That was the way basketball was supposed to be played, a beautiful game. But we will hear all the look how good this team us with this guy. It's simply not a good game to watch anymore. This is a huge part of the problem.

Teams have been sending scouts to high school games awhile. Most of the evaluation for one and dones is done using their AAU film over their college film.

Wow, what a sad story. Really sounds like he's going to end up this era's Lenny Cooke in a lot of ways.
The NBA, much like the NFL, is a "what have you done for me lately?" league. I think that unfairly hurts younger players when they're get traded and moved like chess pieces because teams make deals for superstars/need to move money around to afford max deals.
There's little time to develop your game when you've been traded twice in 3 years. By the time you're 22, the book is out on you...but didn't have consistency and time to actually develop.
I think lowering the draft age would actually make this worse, not better. The incentive for players is to declare and make money early. But now the incentive for owners is to continue to try to get that #1 pick or trade for a superstar and forgo developing young players.
