Unreal! Grandslam walkoff by Giancarlo Stanton in the 9th. Baseball. Gotta love it.
When he walked Torres you could see he was rattled

And it happened.
I still can’t believe he hit 60

An inning to remember forever.

Love seeing Judge get #60 at home and for the team and then seeing Stanton come through is huge. Hopefully this gets him going for the stretch and the playoffs.
Okay, that was AWESOME.

Wipes out some bad bullpen work with an exclamation point.

If that HR gets Stanton going, things are starting to look up again. Torres is hot, Rizzo is starting to hit.

..unbelievable. The jays were closing in on 5 in the loss column if the yanks lose which is still pretty safe but 6 feels a lot better.

Just a legendary inning that goes into NY Yankees lore.

Insane. Judge described it in the postgame as a 10 foot (high) laser.

was more like 130.
Statcast on MLB said 118
Greg from LI : 9/20/2022 11:24 pm : link
But I would believe 130. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a ball hit harder
Stanton held the exit velocity record at 121.7 mph
shyster : 9/20/2022 11:33 pm : link
until Oneil Cruz put up a 122.4 last month.

Judge is number 3 all time with a 121.1.

This is since the stat started being tracked in 2015.

130 mph would probably violate some law of physics.
Great win baby!

after that mash Giancarlo. Please Lord let it settle him down and get him hitting again.

I have to stop falling asleep...last I saw Pirates were up 5-4...
Woke up to find I missed #60 and the GW GS by GS.....

Magic Number is down to 10...

Well well Stanton awoke from his long hibernation,
it's been rough watching him, can he keep it going?

Gs history is streaks. He is far to good a hitter to be in that slump that long. We saw him miss pitches he would normally feast on during this slump - low inside. Gleyber seems to be back to going the other way. Rizzo looked good. Donaldson had been hitting rockets at people. Cabrera is figuring out MLB pitching. One game, but I like Bader;s approach....

Now let's talk about the BP. Blake has to figure this shit out. Wandy is the only reliable one out there, but had a rare blow up day Sunday.
Lasgna has his stuff back, but is spooked by lefties.
Holmes is a wreck
Not a Trivino fan
Chapman???? oh boy
Marinaccio - incomplete

AND - Cole. I love that he knows pitching inside and out, but he thinks way to much on the mound. IMHO, he abandons his FB too much. Get it high in the zone and let it fly.

They have no closer. Nobody is stepping up. Losing King and Green was a disaster.
No way they beat the Astros with that pen.

arcarsenal : 9/21/2022 10:38 am : link
What a game. What a win.

Agree with section, though - the bullpen is a huge, huge problem now. I don't know how we're navigating postseason games with this group. Holmes totally fell apart. Chapman can't be relied on. Marinaccio has been a bit rocky lately.

Loaisiga has mostly rebounded from his awful start, but even still, he's had his bumps. Asking Effross to close in October is a very tall order, but we might not have a choice.

I think we're going to need one or two of the starters to become good October relievers. Montas might be a good candidate for that if they can get his shoulder right in time. I don't know that he'll be able to work back up to a starter's workload.

Glad we're getting Severino back at least. DJ is also expected back during the homestand. If one of Carpenter or Benintendi made it back, I'd be thrilled but time isn't on their sides either.

I knew I was missing someone - Effross. Right now, IMHO, he and Peralta - if Effross makes it back - are candidates for closer.
Perhaps they employ closer by default - German?

No way I put Montas in as closer.
Well, the bullpen is shaky at the moment
Greg from LI : 9/21/2022 10:50 am : link
But there's a lot of Jeckyll and Hyde there. Almost all of them have pitched really well at times and really poorly at times. I can't say I feel good about them at the moment, true, but who knows. Maybe Britton can give them a boost. Dunno.

Losing King was such a kick in the balls.
.
arcarsenal : 9/21/2022 10:57 am : link
Yeah, I would never try Montas as a closer - he may need to be a middle reliever, though. And maybe that's how we'll get the best we can out of him until he has the offseason to get his shoulder right.

Britton could help. His velo was down quite a bit when he started his rehab appearances, I'm not sure if that's changed much since. But, I believe they said he was in the lower 90's. Could just need a little time to build back up.

I like Peralta for the most part. But yeah, between losing King, Holmes' collapse and Chapman being unusable, it has put a pretty big damper on our pennant hopes.
Either German or Sevy could potentially be huge out of the pen

How about an increased
section125 : 9/21/2022 11:08 am : link

Schmidt absolutely will play a huge role
Greg from LI : 9/21/2022 11:17 am : link
I wouldn't be surprised if they use him as a fireman - a guy who comes in at almost any time in a dangerous situation and can give them multiple innings.

I wish I could understand why Holmes completely imploded. I didn't expect to pitch the rest of the season the way he did in the first half, but I also didn't think he would fall to pieces.
.
arcarsenal : 9/21/2022 11:25 am : link
In October, I definitely expect Boone to use Schmidt similarly to how he was using King earlier in the year.
Exactly
Greg from LI : 9/21/2022 11:27 am : link
He hasn't been quite as dominant as King was, but he's very good and gives them a lot of flexibility.

Their big lack is one lights-out reliable guy. Almost everyone in that pen makes you hold your breath because you're not really sure what you're gonna get from them.

as a measure of how desperate I'm getting about it....
Greg from LI : 9/21/2022 11:31 am : link
....I'll be watching closely to see how Stephen Ridings is doing in his rehab in AA. Maybe he can give them something yet.
The difference with Holmes
section125 : 9/21/2022 11:34 am : link
is he lost control of the sinker/FB. He is not getting consistent called strikes with it. It makes his secondary stuff vulnerable. He looks like he is pressing and losing his mechanics
Loaisiga is the guy that should be the lights out guy. He is lost on pitching to lefties for some reason(as per Coney). He needs to get his slider working. He has been hitting 100 mph, so the arm is there. If he had Wandy's or Nestor's confidence he might be unhittable.

It's just crazy though - he was a strike throwing machine first half
Greg from LI : 9/21/2022 11:36 am : link
His command was razor sharp for so long and then just up and vanished.
