They said it was left quad tightness. Let's see what happens. Last thing Mets need is more injuries with Marte still out.

baby. Braves had 1st and 2nd 1 down, Harris singles, Ron Washington waves Riley home... and then holds him up, Contreras got caught in no mans land, then Rosario lined out. Potentially MASSIVE mistake by the Braves.

Boo hoo. So sad. Though I fully expect the Braves to come back in the 9th.

Beautiful catch by Harris robs the Nats of an extra base hit. We go to the bottom of the 9th. Braves have Grossman, Grissom and Acuna coming up

does he stand close to the plate? Did Buck ask him to pull a Rudy Stein?

Eff you Grissom! 2 outs!

Braves announcers are the WORST btw. Talkin' bout "when we come back n beat the Nats we'll talk about the Nimmo injury".

Mets play Oakland 3 starting Friday. Nice to pick up a win today, and extend the lead this weekend. Though depending on the Phillies lately hasn't worked out too well

Hopefully the Mets lose today and then we've got the first of three off-days in the span of 8 days: Sept. 22, 26, & 29.

We can watch the Barfs tomorrow lose gain tomorrow in Philly while the Mets enjoy a day off.

I'm watching the Braves' postgame now, lol. What sore losers.

Jeff McNeil appeared to suffer some sort of physical issue in left field earlier, and he did not run hard down the line on his fifth-inning groundout. He was on a knee in left until just before the first pitch was thrown in the bottom of the fifth.

A situation worth watching...
McNeil has stayed in though?

McNeil is fine. It looked bad when he tumbled and his knee made that divet, but he waived the trainer off after he came out to check on him. The trainer stayed with him, but he's still out there. Nimmo is the one we need to keep an eye on, especially with his history.

Taijuan needs to keep his ish together. Peterson is up in the pen. Figures we'll see him soon (next inning perhaps).
Here's Walker's line after 6 complete innings today:

80 P (47 S)
1 R (1 ER)
4 H
2 BB

3.34 ERA

He oould go one more inning, but should he at this point? I'd give Peterson the ball for an inning or two, then hope they score a run, and then bring in Diaz.

Mets need to head to Atlanta in 9 days up 1 game on the Braves. If they do that, I like their chances. All they'd need to do is win one game there and they'd have the tie-breaker and then head back home to play the last three games of the season against the Nats (no jinx meant).

Need to win all three games there vs probably three left-handed starters. The Mets will be off again on the 26th and then head home to play the Marlins for two games, and then then have another off day on the 29th for the last time this regular season before heading to Atlanta on the 30th for three games.

Mets need to out this behind them and play to win the next 5 games and hope the Phils win one against the Braves. No excuses for the Mets playing against the likes of the Triple A's in Oakland and then the Marlines at Citi. They'll have three off-days to help them out too before heading to Atlanta in nine days. Just need a 1 game lead before heading there. hopefully the Mets get healthy (Nimmo, McNeil, and Marte).

Funny that now the beat writers are asking about the 4th playoff starter being Carrasco or Walker when all of you thought Carrasco could be a 3rd starter. With those numbers he might be in the pen

I just saw the grand slam today. I dont care if you havent pitched in the big leagues recently, missing your spot by over a foot and hanging a slider with an 0-2 count in that situation just cannot happen

That is an outside the box option that I like. It's been so long since we've seen Megill start and pitch though, but when he did, he was quite good.
I don't trust Carrasco
pjcas18 : 9/22/2022 8:00 am : link
or Walker in the playoffs.

If the Mets can't go with a 3-man rotation I think they need to ride the hot hand, but maybe stack them and have a short leash so start either one of them, but have the other ready. kind of like a bullpen game. I imagine both would be on the PS roster.
I generally feel like it's hard to expect sweeps
Chris684 : 9/22/2022 10:40 am : link
but I think this weekend is an exception for the Mets. We are throwing our big 3 against the punchless A's. Drop the hammer and take all 3.

If we can do that and the Phils just manage a split, we will be 2.5 up and in great shape to start the final week.

We have to expect a sweep of the lowly A's and the top 3 starters going. This is what playoff teams do.
Megill

Mets blew it IMO by not using the past few weeks to stretch him out. They are more confident in Carrasco and Walker than then should be.

Still enough time to stretch him to 35, 50 and 65 pitches before the playoffs but I doubt they do it.

Degrom
Scherzer
Bassit
Carrasco
Megill

Peterson

Maybe Butto or someone else
they are getting lucky on the carrasco option
Eric on Li : 9/22/2022 11:22 am : link
the salary isn't crazy but the $11m post buyout is probably better spent elsewhere. i'd guess Trevor Williams will cost half that and they can put Peterson/Megill into the rotation. Butto is looking like he may be an option at some point next year at least as depth too.

JDG and Bassitt are going to require raises in the $10m ballpark, so letting Carrasco walk pays for 1 of them.

Walker will probably get a 3/45m or something like Matz last year, which would also be a $10m raise. I'd rather keep him for a few years than Carrasco for 1 i think. but if i were guessing right now i think they will let him go too.
