Tough game. Buill pen still disappoining. Trivino and Holmes held the fort, though, and Donaldson delivered.
The 8th inning run was a thing of beauty.

Not surprising that a team with a scumbag like Cora as a manager would pitch around Judge so much.

I get it, but I always liked Andujar. I felt like he was just consistent playing time away from being a pretty good - to occasionally dangerous - major leaguer. Bummer.

I said on the other thread, it will be interesting what Andujar does when given a real chance to play everyday.

I really have to laugh at those who think Andujar is a capable MLB player. He won rookie of the year in 2018- and has done ZERO since. He can’t play a defensive position to save his life, effectively limiting himself to DH. He can’t hit either.

Here are Andujar’s WAR numbers for each season since 2018: -1.2, -0.4, -0.3 and -0.3. In other words, playing him HURTS his team more than playing any random scrub. He has NEGATIVE value.

As for those still expecting to get something for him- Andujar has made trade requests annually for YEARS- and the Yanks have tried to trade him- and no one wanting to give anything of value for him.

The reality is simple- he has had NEGATIVE value for 4 seasons. Why would ANY team in their right mind be rushing to add him. Even Aaron Hicks- as bad as he has been- has ONE negative season in his last six seasons. Andujar has FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS of negative WAR. Think about that- he’s worse that Hicks EVERY SEASON.

He had less plate appearances in those 4 seasons combined (mostly due to injury) than Hicks had as a complete and total scrub in 2022. No offense, but this post is nonsense.
All three Judge walks were followed by double plays
shyster : 9/22/2022 11:03 pm : link
and no runs were scored in those innings. Can't fault that.

Buck Showalter walked Barry Bonds with the bases loaded and a two run lead.
They showed

Hicks plays CF
Greg from LI : 9/22/2022 11:05 pm : link
And was pretty good at it until recently. Andujar has zero defensive value. If he doesn’t hit he brings nothing at all to the table.

No, what you posted is nonsense. Miggy is a good guy. Decent hitter. But in reality is an AAAA player. Yes Hicks hasn't been too good in 2 years, but he is absolutely without question a better outfielder. His bat is questionable now, but so is Miggy's. HIcks maybe no more than the 26th player on a MLB bench, but he is still a MLB player.

Great sign for the playoffs.

Andujar turned out to be a dud. It happens. Time for fans to let go of this idea he’s Vlad Guerrero if he could only get a chance

Not that he’ll ever get credit from the pitchfork mob, but Boone managed a solid game tonight. And Cashman loading up on some fast bench guys to pinch run made the difference on the bases in the late innings

Yeah, I am with you and this is correct. But if they figured out what was ailing Holmes, that would be huge. Coney is right. He said Lasgna cannot figure out an out pitch for lefties.

Let's see what Britton does, but that could be a huge add to the pen.

Greg from LI : 9/22/2022 11:27 pm : link
well at times. They’re all capable. If most of them pitched to their ability, the pen would be fine. None of them have been reliable in a while, though. On any given night, you have no idea which one of them will implode.

At this point in time you are 100% correct. Peralta is the only one that gives you quality almost every time..and Schmidt is pretty consistent too.

Bullshit. Hicks’ last good season was the same damn year as Miguel Andujar’s only good season. And that sure as fuck was more than 2 years ago. Hicks has a positive defensive WAR in 1 of his last 5 seasons. Miguel Andujar hasn’t gotten a chance to show what he can do offensively at this point in his career, especially not with a leash the length of what Hicks got this season. Not mentioning the fact that Andujar hasn’t played much the past 4 seasons is mostly due to injuries is just being disingenuous. If he didn’t hit right away when they called him up the past 2 seasons, then they sent him right down.

The only reason Aaron Hicks is on the roster right now or got 420 plate appearances this season despite looking like complete rubbish is because some moron gave him a 7 year contract that doesn’t expire for 3 more years.
Bogaerts went 0-5 and Arraez 1-4
mfsd : 9/22/2022 11:42 pm : link
So despite his 0-2, Judge now the batting leader at .316, .002 ahead of Bogaerts

For those rooting for a Judge Triple Crow!
I hope the Wandy injury is just a trip that he IL to give him a break

Before the playoffs and a chance to give them a chance to assess Britton. Wandy has been the most consistent guy in the pen in any role that's been asked of him.

Let me say this succinctly:

Aaron Hicks is a MLB player and Miguel Andujar is not. Hicks is not worth his contract and that is not the point. But on fielding alone, Aaron Hicks is a better baseball player than Miguel Andujar.

And you are right - the only reason Hicks is still here is the contract - which in this day and age is not a crazy one. But the two are mutually exclusive.

And I do not want Hicks on the Yankees anymore.

I would say Hicks WAS a + defensive player but isn't anymore. In fact he's been awful, running around in circles misplaying fly balls and his arm is shot.

Problem with Andujar is typical of how the org. handles prospects. When they decided in end of the 2018 season that he couldn't play 3rd, they should have traded him that off-season when his value a was at it's peak. Instead they held on to him for 4 years and wind up with nothing in return

Lol. I was a big Hicks fan back when he was injured but still producing but he's pretty damn bad now.

Bader will come back down to earth but he's been a nice spark in the back of the lineup. Add in the fielding and hopefully some good luck with health, and you've got a successful trade.

Hicks had 3 of those rbis in one day on September 7th. Truly unbelievable.
If only Benintendi could make it back....
Greg from LI : 9/23/2022 10:04 am : link
then we'd never see Hicks again. Benintendi-Bader-Judge with Cabrera as 4th OF would be perfect. Alas.....

arcarsenal : 9/23/2022 10:29 am : link
We're already seeing why Bader was acquired. I am super happy he's here. Love the Waldo/HB/Judge alignment. So good defensively.

The Yanks have sort of quietly righted the ship after that little scare with the Rays.

The division is just a matter of time at this point.

I still have no idea where we're going to get big outs from this bullpen in October, but maybe less-defined roles and just riding the hot hands will manage to work somehow. I think a pair of starters will need to become long-men and give us quality relief innings for it to work.

Chapman is cooked. Can't use him. He wouldn't even be on the playoff roster if it were up to me.
Locastro is now the 4th OF and a more useful piece
shyster : 9/23/2022 10:32 am : link
Hicks hasn't stepped on the field since Bader was activated.

He's done. I don't think he makes the postseason roster even with Benintendi out.
With Beni out the OF arms for the Yanks right now may be the best ever

Hoping for another win tonight, but I'd definitely prefer Judge held onto 61 and 62 for the weekend. Hitting one or both on Apple TV would be brutal.

They literally aired a team that had people who didn't know what a ground-rule double was. It would be criminal for one of those people to make either call.
