It didn’t make sense to pay one of these QBs this year, but we’d be a better team with most of the QBs that were available. If this team continues to play well, I could see a Wilson-like move in 2023.
I don’t consider the Eli trade because he wasn’t a starter at the time.
I agree - it can work if your other parts are in place. Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo come to mind as successful. I do think you don’t need to draft at the top of the draft. The top QBs have different paths to success.
Yup. And many people here went to the mat for the legendary Josh Rosen, both in the draft and after Arizona dumped him. He now resides on the Browns practice squad, his 6th team in 5 years , after some guy named Feleipe Franks beat him out for the Falcons 3rd string job
you guys just saw what other teams' fans watch with Danny Dimes. Turbisky's performance last night was very Jones-like.
They probably think he sucks, whats your point?
The point of the thread is that spending money on Trubisky looks like its going to be a complete swing and miss for Pittsburgh and as someone who thought he could have been an upgrade, I was wrong.
you are seeing how much that OL and run game factored into Baker looking solid in Cleveland. Brissett stinks but they can still move the ball and score despite him. Starting to put a whole bunch of arguments this past offseason to bed on how good Mayfield really is, or isn't.
Glad we don't have him or Trubisky, just more wasted money (and potentially picks in Baker's case)
but I also think if Jones goes down he would be better than Tyrod Taylor. A lot of the problems last night for Pittsburgh stemmed from the fact that they could not stop the run. Trubiscky is an easy target because he is not very good, but that game last night was lost at the LOS on both sides of the ball.
I didn’t want all 3. I would rather draft a QB next year to hold a clipboard when the season begins and develop him for the first year while Tyrod Taylor (assuming Jones won’t be re-signed) becomes a one year starter. If Taylor gets hurt, which is likely, then he could come in unless we feel more comfortable putting in a decent older vet.
Graham leaving is a game changer for the Giants. Watching the game last night reminded me of how much I hate a defense that plays a soft zone.
As far as the QBs go I think Jones and Trubisky are 6 of one half dozen of another. I think Trubisky throws better on the run than Jones. I think Jones runs the game a little better. But IMO neither of them is more than a bottom 3rd of the league on their best day. I think both are best suited as backups.
I've always thought he was uniquely awful, but those that wanted to sign him did so because they wanted someone to compete with Jones for the job. If Jones couldn't beat out Mitch, what does that say about him?
He was signed for 2 years, $14.3M and $5M guaranteed. And when the Steelers were still contemplating what they might/might not do in the Draft this past year.
Do we really need to couch this is a killer blow avoided?
Leaving DJ out of the discussion so it doesn't get tainted, how many highly drafted QB's have or are flaming out.
Trubisky
Darnold
Mayfield
Haskins (even before his untimely death)
Drew Lock
Rosen
Jared Goff (has some early success and still starting but still, not exactly #1 material)
Wentz
Pax Lynch
Winston
Mariota
Bortles
Manziel
Bridewater
that is just in past 8 years
obviously there have been several successful high draft picks but many more fail to live up to their billing long term than succeed.

Roll the dice, either way it’s ultimately a win.

Next year, someone other than a rookie is a real possibility for us.
I was thinking this watching the Raiders and Ravens D's both sucking.
He blows.

The point of the thread once again went completely over your head. Which is the least surprising thing ever. You’re an extremely dim bulb

The Trubisky contract is basically the same as the Taylor contract too.

HUGE! Difference between 2-0 vs. 0-2. Could end up being the difference between a playoff spot and another losing season.
Thank you so much, Coaches Graham and Wink!

it truly is a crap shoot in many ways

No one is saying that.
Not so much a dodged bullet as a GIFT FROM THE GODS FOR OUR DECADE OF SUFFERING.
I love Wink and his defense so much.
That's all.
100%.
Yeah kinda forgot how all that unfolded.
Clap, Clap, Clap.
Stafford worked out pretty well for the Rams. But you'd have to think REALLY far back to remember that example.
Not true at all. Another "Selective Memory" type of post.
From the "Anyone is better than Jones" camp ofc Trubisky was an alternative.
