The Return of "It's Friday, what have we learned BBI" Thread

Semipro Lineman : 9/23/2022 10:32 am
Let's kick it off.

I learned that it's always about Daniel Jones, even if the thread was about Special Teams, it will come down to being about Daniel Jones.

I also learned that a QB can throw a game losing interception before halftime and somehow, knowledgeable reporters can opined that Daniel Jones' fate with the Giants only has two choices and there is no middle grounds.

I learned that Head Trainer Ronnie Barnes was the second shooter on the grassy knoll.

I learned that you can brag about a prediction of a major statistical achievement even if your original prediction was focused on a completely different stat line. But that's what you took heat over it, etc... and not over the original misidentification.

I learned that the cost control segment on BBI is already fretting over the contract to give a young starter with two more years on his rookie deal.

And finally, I learned that once again the beat reporters and analysis sites are using BBI and other message boards for story ideas.

P.S. If any of y'ouse reporters steal this original old school BBI theme that 15 years old then I'm sending Greg in LI after you

I don't know, I see way more you can't blame him for this or the OL isn't giving him enough time than this is all his fault. You'll have to point some out for me, I think most people are pretty fair about him not having a good cast around him for his career. But some want to excuse his poor play from this and others want to say yes and he has played below average as well, which is the right take.

on a thread below that apparently the Giants HAVE to draft a QB this spring because they Bills took Allen when ALL of BBI wanted Allen instead of Barkley..

Injuries only happen to the Giants.

I learned that you are being negative if you feel a guy who has already missed or been limited in 85% of his time with the team is listed as limited or injured again.

That Kenny Golladay's issues are because the QB can't make him look better.

No man you misunderstood on KG. It was pointing out the logical inconsistency in saying that a QB doesn't have the OL he needs to succeed yet a WR gets none of that understanding put to them. DJ gets infinite excuses was KG is just a bad seed. What people miss is there is a grey area, KG does seem light on effort but that doesn't explain his whole situation and just because DJ has had some sub par talent around him doesn't excuse him from responsibility. It's really that simple but some of you can only see in terms of "players I like" and "players I don't like"

Umm, no.. Your last line screams of a deeper meaning, just like in the original thread about Golladay. The whole point seems pretty lost when the coaching staff doesn't even want to play the guy.

I don't think so. If I have to point out to you then I don't think you have ever read any post from BW or Producer or Mike (I think form Ohio) or Debaser. And before when Go Terps was posting. These are just ones off the top of my head. You mean you never heard or read anything that would suggest that at least a couple of these posters blame EVERYTHING on Jones? And three of them post a lot.

And I think you are misinteprteting the comments about the OL. It's in "defense" of blaming him for "EVERYTHING" for example when he is referred to as not being a starting caliber QB.

You've seen that before, right?

I'll give you Producer / Debaser. Really that's 1. I can't even make a list of people that excuse him because of his team and OL. Go into any game thread and you'll find ~10 each week.

Plus the owner is in that camp. So how exactly are we at more people blaming him completely? Seems lopsided in the other direction pretty clearly.

I don't understand your last question.

And tell me did you think Daniel Jones made even one good throw in the last game?
What?
NoGainDayne : 9/23/2022 12:16 pm : link
I've said a few times this week he had one excellent drive last week. Many good throws on that drive, decisive, confident. The problem with Jones isn't his capabilities the problem is his mind isn't in the right place or clicking or in "flow." He overthinks things, he's never had any real success so he doesn't have anything resembling a swagger on the field. QBs need to be overconfident if anything, not in their heads or needing to be coddled by their team.

But I wasn't talking about you. Sometimes I disagree with you but I respect your opinion. I asked the question because of one the posters you defended on here BW.

As you say many good throws on the drive. Well read the Sy '56 Giants-Panthers Game Review thread third page Sept 21st 12;06 PM when BW questions Sy's comments on what throws were elite. Are you (BW) going to quibble with SY on what is a "good throw" vs "elite?" Or you (BW) can't let it go that SY is complimenting Jones? Or you (BW) don't even think Jones made one good throw?

Anyhow this is the type of nutjob posts you get from BW and others like him that you are willing to excuse. I'm not saying you are the nutjob- not one bit - I'm saying though you probably have biases just like all of us do - and you are more willing to excuse posters that offer a negative opinion even if a lunatic from many because you're negative on him as well (though not as much as some others). I'm negative too - I don't think they will re-sign him and am okay. I'm expecting a season which we can either draft a QB or look to overpay for one in the future.

***SY made a clear comment on that thread his comment was "Jones CAN DO IT" ie - "he has it in him." There are many posters that don't agree with that. Then wouldn't logic dictate a rebuttal that many agree with SY that he does have it in him and maybe the OL and the WR's and the injuries to Barkley and the prior awful coaching are ALSO to blame?

In order to agree with and defend SY's comment of "He CAN Do it" - then ofc posters would bring up the points I just mentioned, right?

"“I would be surprised if he’s not the starter [in Week 1 next season],” said Mara, the Giants’ co-owner. “Daniel will get a chance next year, and we’ll hopefully be able to get a fair evaluation of him. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll go to Plan B. . . . ""

He clearly says we will go to Plan B if things don't work out.

If what he says is accurate I'm completely ok with it. I just don't really believe it is and I don't believe declining the 5th year option is the signal people talk about it as because most QBs get traded when a new regime comes in.

And I wouldn't equate at all Mara maybe wanting to pick up the option but accepting a compromise of giving him a year to play it out as the same that Mara will just let him leave the building. Mara clearly likes Jones a lot and not picking up an option is way different than letting him go to another team which I think is likely to be the way bigger disagreement between him and the new management than the option year.

He blames everything on Jones. I wonder if he'd chime in on a discussion he and I had or acknowledge what you said that Jones has had a bad cast around him and that is in some manner the bad cast is also blame.

But I'm still stunned he said the following as a long time fan he proclaims he is:. He had asked me what do I feel (talking about last season) when watching the Giants I said I feel frustration that nearly everything stinks. I gave last year's Cowboys game as an example at how I felt so disgusted that the Giants defense got so badly abused on the ground along with everything else.

He didn’t give a shit about anything else he said. It was all Jones for him. So I’d like to see him post that’s it’s not all Jones. He and others like him it’s all the QB. The QB overcomes these deficiencies otherwise it’s an excuse to acknowledge any bad cast etc. . . And use Joe Burrow as an example of a OL needed . . .

For me- how can we ALSO not be so freaking disgusted that the Defense last year in that game got so humiliated on the ground especially being a long time Giants fan? I can see if there was NO success any more for ground teams but San Fran and Tenn have had some type of success. It is not the best way to go—but to just not give a shit of the other parts of football and only the QB? It’s lunacy. Other positions count.

bw is one of the worst evaluators of QB's and understanding offensive football I have seen on here. The train of posters who follow seem mostly the same to me.

You are correct. The parts around the QB are a big deal as is coaching. I posted on another thread but tale a look at Alllen's stats (who I really like) and Buffalo's points before and after Diggs.

Word of advice. He is not changing imv. He posts good stuff on college stuff if your into that.

Also learned that Aaron Boone is an Eagles fan which totally disqualifies him from being Yankees manager imo.

What everyone is eating this weekend.

Daniel Jones has surpassed Jesus as the most well known name amongst Giants fan base.

You can’t bang secretary’s at work.

Mike Lombardi is the same POS he’s always been.

Golladay isn’t happy, doesn’t understand why he’s not being played. Doesn’t think it matters how hard he tries he should be played, well, because…

Ojulari might play, but won’t, but might.

And lastly, Koldegard is going to the game in London and wants to know who else is going.

Wait, why can't we bang secretaries at work?

But I wasn't talking about you. Sometimes I disagree with you but I respect your opinion. I asked the question because of one the posters you defended on here BW.

As you say many good throws on the drive. Well read the Sy '56 Giants-Panthers Game Review thread third page Sept 21st 12;06 PM when BW questions Sy's comments on what throws were elite. Are you (BW) going to quibble with SY on what is a "good throw" vs "elite?" Or you (BW) can't let it go that SY is complimenting Jones? Or you (BW) don't even think Jones made one good throw?

JFC. I decide to check out this thread on a whim and - voila! - I'm the focus of more non-sense.

Indeed, I did ask Sy what throws Jones was making that were elite. It's a genuine/legitimate question. If he can point me in the right direction, I'm all ears to learn.

Do you recall what throws Jones made that were elite?

I try to give balanced views on Jones by combining the "eye test", his overall circumstances, and his numerical output. Unfortunately, it seems you might confuse my opinions with others or struggle to fully comprehend my comments.

+1.

I'm with you. Hey I'm disappointed with the QB play too. But the way some posters feel about only the QB - it makes you wonder if they feel why SY even bothers evaluating any position other than QB.

After all, he's a professional scout, if QB is the only position that counts, why should he bother addressing any other position?

And I guess someone like Stafford an a lucky eureka moment? He couldn't elevate his Detroit teams to win like posters want Jones to elevate, yet miraculously it all came to him in one season. Its a miracle!!!

Ask NoGainDayne. He made the following comment of "many good throws":

"I've said a few times this week he had one excellent drive last week. Many good throws on that drive, decisive, confident."
