Things we have gotten used to from the Giants over the years

Giantimistic : 9/24/2022 11:03 am
We are ofcourse used to losing, however, these are some things that have stretched over many coaches:

-Losing Season Openers
-Opposing teams driving late in the game to win the game
-Losing prime time games, especially Monday night
-Having a major letdown after seeing signs of hope and progress.
-Letting back up QBs have huge games
-Poor halftime adjustments
-Injuries on top of injuries
-Feel free to add more, as there are many!

Some of these things even happened in seasons with Coughlin--we would get off to great starts some seasons and then have big letdowns.

While, I do think we got Tennessee at the right time and that the Panthers are not that great. We did things that have been against Giants nature.

So far we have seen some terrific coaching with a team that has a lot of questions, but we won 2 games that go against the trends we are used to. Winning on a Monday night against the Cowboys with a backup QB. Going 3-0 doesn't mean we are a playoff team, or we are a great team. It will be fun and I will be as optimistic as always. However, I think it will signify a new era. One in which we won't know what to expect. when I watched Carolina, it felt like I was watching a team constructed and play like a Giants team we were used too which makes sense with all the former Giants coaches and players still there from our former GM. What is clear is that this team is being run differently than it has in a long time and we are 2 weeks in with a team that is not repeating the trends of old--except maybe injuries.

I would love to see us destroy a backup QB with Wink as our Defensive mind. I would like to see us come up huge on a Monday night. I just want to see something different like we have experienced in week 1 and 2. It may not give hope for a big end to the season, but it should give us hope that the Giants are going to enter in a period of sustained success--things just feel different and I am trying to be cautious after buying in one time to many.

I’m not used to any of that shit…

Is still think of the Giants as a tough as nails ball control team with a relentlessly punishing defense. I cut my teeth as a Giants fan on Phil Simms grinding O and LT’s ferocious fearsome D with Tuna and Little Bill strutting like the cocks of the walk on the sidelines. Even after the past ten years of lousy football I’m still expecting the Giants to be good again in a lunch pail Big Blue collar wrecking crew kind of way. With the “basketball on grass” NFL of today the Giants probably won’t ever return to the rock’em sock’em days of yore. And I suppose for the players that’s probably just as well. But I’m not ever gonna’ be used to lousy Giants football.

What I love about Head-coach DaBALLs, aside from the wins, is that little Canuck isn’t building a program of ‘fraidy cat football. I like his swagger and love the attacking on O and especially day. Hope our days of Joe Judges pathetic V formation are now behind us. Let’s go Big Blue!

this team is far from perfect and has many holes on it, but, especially on defense they are getting the most of these players and they are all playing hard.

I think they will fully take advantage of what they can Monday night, and frankly they should be able to pull off another win based on what we've been seeing

I am lucky to have started my Giants rooting in the early 80s as well. I thinks growing up a Knocks and Giants fan in the 80s/early 90s made me love defense more than offense. I can deal with low scoring games as long as our d is great.

Because there are definitely areas where we've shown undeniable Improvement even to the most pessimistic Giants fan.

Bad things I have gotten used to that we seem to be improving:

Delay of games.
False start penalties.
Missed tackles.
Lack of pre-snap motion.
Never finding value throughout the draft.
Not having a play ready for the two or three must-have situations that you face every game.

Here's then I'm looking forward to seeing improve that I would not say have yet:

Cutting down on injuries somehow.
Downfield passing productivity.
Shutting down good tight ends.

That is a very real list. The tight end one would be great to never experience again. Even Whitten, at the end of his career could just walk off the line 10 yards turn around and be open.

I like what I'm seeing as well. Their roster is still not top talent and still has some holes. But, they are well coached from the position groups to the top and now they are building confidence. I feel like there is a lot of pressure on the D. If they can hold down teams, this group should compete on a weekly basis and should win some games they aren't supposed to.
Having our high draft picks especially WRs...

... immediately get hurt in minicamp or training camp or at the beginning of the season and the injury either completely curtails their rookie year or hampers them to the point of being close to useless on the field. Listed as questionable or doubtful every single week *eye roll*
Our draft picks are often like a great toy a kid unwrapped under the Christmas tree then immediately broke into pieces as soon as he took it out of the box

The Giants haven't been closers. I was very glad to see it last week with the ball on offense to finish out.
