-Nimmo is not playing today; Canha is in his place in CF and Jeff McNeil is batting leadoff and playing LF
-Luis G is starting at 2B
-Nido is catching (as expected after McCann played less than 24 hours ago).
-Ruf is in RF again and Vientos is DHing due the the left-handed starters this entire series.
Teammates are going to be merciless for that line drive to left field.
I couldn't help but laugh.
It's only funny if you win the game, though.
It seems to me that deGrom has been fighting his slider for multiple starts now, and it doesn't look like it has quite the bite that it did in his first start or two coming off the IL. It's still a good pitch, but maybe not quite as devastating.
I was afraid of something like this after last start
Jake was obviously done after 6 but Buck had in his mind that he had to go 7. No doubt to rest the bullpen
Why you would push a guy who recovered from a stress fracture when he was obviously tiring is beyond me.
If they do an MRI and find the stress fracture is returned Cohen ought to fire everyone involved in the decision to push Degrom.
He is an 80-85 pitch pitcher this season. That's what he is and usually its enough to shut down the opponent for 6. So just accept it. He is so dominant in most cases it won't matter.
this series set up very well for the break out. almost as well as june/july set up for what should have been his call up to see if he could legitimately factor in this year.
he now has 2 more extra base hits than Darrin Ruf since August 12th.

Do you have the distance on that HR?
NL East standings as of the start of the day today:
Alonzo the savior! Saved 2 runs, like Gary said. I hate to say this, but I've seen enough of deGrom today. Trevor Williams was throwing on the side. I'm assuming Buck brings him in to start the 5th.

But he's had a little bit of luck in recent starts. I've noticed him get hit pretty hard recently, even if those balls turned into outs (remember Nimmo's HR saving catch).
To me he's been struggling with his control, particularly with the slider. It could be his mechanics are just off. But he's so good that on most days, even when he's off he still has a really good start for most pitchers.
Today's stuff is not any different than the last several starts. What is different is that the hard hit balls went for hits today, and he wasn't able to get the big strikeout with runners on to get him out of trouble.
A start like today... you could almost see coming.
Game is still very much winnable though.
What does Jake need to do? Exactly what he did the last couple of innings, start to mix in his other pitches more. More curveballs and changeups.
Braves are up 6-0 in Philly in the Bottom of the 4th.

He has given up more hard contact on his fastball this year than previous ones combined. He still touches 100 on occasion but the lack of swing and misses is very concerning.

Agreed. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Jake having more movement on that FB. Lately it's had plenty of velo; 98-102, but it seems to be more straight.
A straight 4-seamer a ML hitter will time it, doesn't matter how hard you throw.
We all know how great he has been the last several years. That being said, he needs to be treated with kid gloves. He has become a 5-6 inning pitcher who tends to miss a significant amount of time which makes it difficult for the entire rotation. He hasn’t had his fastball the last few starts which is very alarming with the playoffs around the corner.

That was a big boy homer! Awesome for Mark to get career #1! First of many!
He might wind up kicking Ruf off the postseason roster
Could be the stress fracture
he now has 2 more extra base hits than Darrin Ruf since August 12th.
Oh shut up. His last start of last year he pitched 7 innings, 10 Ks, and 2 ER.
You're full of it, man.
Could be the stress fracture
Wild conjecture.

His next start is pushed back, then he ends up on the DL and we don't see him for months

The truth! I proved you wrong definitively, dude. You're just talking out of your ass, per usual.
it looked like he was struggling with his release point and obviously he was pissed at some of the calls.
they also put him in a position he's not practiced in having to try to pitch with a lead of more than 1 run.

No you just can't comprehend English. I never said the last time he went to the DL was after a start like this

I thought Hernandez threw him off his game a bit with his wild strike-zone.
