you don't play a guy with a .400 ops in his time as a met hitting under .100 in the last month just because he can field 1b. generally speaking anyone can play 1b at least competently and vientos has played there in the minors.
No he's not. Alonso is playing DH. Ruffy was the one he failed (yet again) with Alonso on 3rd.
Quote:
He just failed to get a runner in from third base. If you're asking why he's not playing first base you got to be kidding, Ruf is definitely better defensively

Ruf should be batting 9th

Ruf is a better defender at 1B than Vientos.

Buck's love of Ruf is mind boggling at this point. Not only does he keep playing him but he keeps putting him in the middle of the order gumming up potential rally after rally (Like Escobar used too before turning his season around).

You are correct. I was watching with the sound off while I'm watching football on another TV
indeed. Ruf is rough to watch. Yekkhhhhh...
I'd rather have JD Davis, forget about the other 3 players included in the trade.

Agreed. What was JD's problem here though ultimately? The whole thing is mind numbing when you sit down and rewind it in your head man. My brother loved JD, but when the trade was made we both said that it would be in his best interest. What went wrong here with him ultimately? Did he just need to play every day? What exactly? Because he is just better than Ruf is at this juncture.
he was having a down year but i assumed their scouts thought he was still looking good and about to turn a corner...which i guess he did the problem is it was over a cliff.
Doubtful, with its postseason implications.
Unfortunately, they just resumed play.
Hopefully the lead sticks this time. A laugher would be nice too of course :-)

Your constant roasting of the cross-town team is hilarious.
Ruf needs to sit on the bench. As pj said, it was a horrible trade to begin with and he give this team nothing. He’s a net negative. If he’s on the post season roster, I’ll be sick. Of course…he will be.
It doesn’t have to be vientos. But literally ANYONE would be better than him - he’s been a net negative at the place.
in the past 2 games he was 3/6 with 2 walks, just 1 k, and 2 extra base hits.
like i said above i liked the Ruf trade because his upside was a legitimate impact hitter. at this point they need to realize that is not happening. if he gets 1 or 2 big hits off the bench at some point thank the stars. but he has looked so putrid you can't play him over anyone with a pulse.
Grrrrrrr
The official scorer seems to disagree with you

but the catcher was on one knee for pitch framing and didnt block it

Any time it hits the dirt its an automatic wild pitch. But it was a blockable ball that he didnt get to because he was on one knee
Agreed. Give him the 8th. Then Smith the 9th.
It feels dirty to root for the PHI walk off, so I'm hoping for something like a HBP to win the game.
