He knows the offense better than anyone on the team right now.
I would (as fans) look for the Giants to sign a big time WR or trade for one. You can see how the Giants want to build their WR corps, with underneath weapons first (due to huge $$$ committed to outside) and then we will be rid of KG (and quite possibly KT) and get our version of Diggs in Buffalo.

Nothing can be done with KG and KT until next off season. Too big a cap hit.
some point, they'll probably promote Johnson from the PS.
I hope Slayton can provide a spark, but fear that he may have lost some of his speed.
you mean promote a guy whose caught 50 passes in 5 full seasons? The guy has done nothing in his career and regardless any 6th receiver is just gonna sit on the bench, might as well be slayton

Right now that looks better than what we're getting from Slayton and Golladay.

Dude, you have NFL coaches who know way more than you do, who know for a fact is not better. If the guy was worthy of being on an nfl field, he would be, but he's not
He's here for two reasons: Tremendous size/speed/strength tools and support from WR Coach Mike Groh, who had Johnson in Philadelphia and Indianapolis. So if the knock on him is that "coaches know more than we do", he seems to have at least one important coach in his corner. He's new to the system, having joined the Practice Squad on 9/6. He should be ready to contribute soon, if the slugs currently on the roster either get hurt or continue to languish.
Johnson has been reasonably productive when he has played. In roughly one season's worth of snaps and targets, he has 51 catches for 839 yards and 3 touchdowns, with three 100-yard games. He's an impressive athlete and a decent player, when his hamstrings and other body parts cooperate. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case consistently enough for him to overcome his rawness coming out of Texas.
Johnson is currently "next man up" at WR, though Kalil Pimpleton might get promoted first if the staff wants/needs to replace Richie James on punt returns. So Acid Test isn't exactly going out on a limb in predicting that we'll see Johnson in a game eventually.

As far as I know, either one could be traded with no additional 2022 implications aside from replacement cost.
In both instances, the 2022 salary cap hit from their amortized bonus is already on the books, and the acceleration of their remaining bonus would hit the 2023 cap; the guaranteed salary (and future roster/workout bonuses) would be assumed by the acquiring team.
That doesn't mean that either of them actually have positive trade value, but they both could be traded this year (strictly in terms of cap feasibility). They can't be released this year due to the cap, but if someone wanted to trade for either one of them, it can be done with no incremental 2022 cap consequences.
Do I want to catch passes from Daniel Jones or Tom Brady?

^This.

Hehehe, is that rhetorical?

Alex Bachman was our discount Cole Beasley but apparently team management saw it a different way

As for Cole Beasley, if we actually needed a pure slot receiver, I could probably get behind signing him as a stopgap; but I would rather root for a good soldier like Johnson, who has persisted in the face of adversity.
Interview with Johnson from five years ago, after he lit up Texas Pro Day. - ( New Window )
Article made it seem like the sticking point is money.
