The Crowd Monday Night

Samiam : 9/25/2022 9:34 pm
Last few years, it seemed as though there were about many Cowboy fans as Giants fans. Clearly, a big Giants crowd, like in the old days, would be a major plus. Any sense of how many Cowboy fans will be in the building percentage wise?
When the cowturds come to play the Giants it is like a home for

In general than it does about the fans who sell their tickets.

We are in the NJ NY area. There at least 100 times more fans in the area who don’t have tickets versus those who do.

So even if half of the season ticket holders put their tickets up for sale, you would think those seats would easily get taken by other giants fans.

If the stadium is 50/50 cowboy fans, it means there are no fans who want to see this team play. OR, Dallas fans are willing to pay more to see their team play

This idea that you need to root for the team that is geographically nearest you is idiotic.

I'm a Dallas fan because I wrote a book report on Roger Staubach in the third grade.

I'm a Celtics fan because of my father.

I'm a Yankees fan because it was the first sporting event I ever saw. As a child Yankee stadium and the sheer size of it blew me away, especially with the monuments on the field. I could have been a Pittsburgh fan because my dad's favorite player was Roberto Clemente and the Yankees were one of the worst teams at that time. But whenever I visited the original Yankee stadium I literally got goosebumps. I became a fan because of a stadium.

There are many reasons one becomes a fan of a team and I believe geography is down on the list.

I think a lot of the out of town fandom has to do with how much the Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders and to an extent the Dolphins were on tv in the NYC area in the 70’s.

The Giants before moving to Giants stadium were blacked out a ton but those teams were not only good but on tv practically every week. Kids growing up then liked teams they could watch and the fact they won certainly helped. Now we’re seeing the next generation following their parents rooting interests and that makes sense. What little boy or girl doesn’t want to be like and hang with mom and dad?

I think it’s more prevalent in football because of the games being blacked out as opposed to the Yankees and Mets in baseball always being available on channels 9 and 11 back then.

I’d say geography is arguably the biggest reason why fans are fans of their teams.

That being said, and no offense-you’re a fan of literally the three winningest teams you could possibly root for (Cowboys are right up there but the other two are A1). For me, it would be impossible to be a Celtic fan as a Yankee fan because I absolutely detest the fan base. When you’re jumping for joy with the Celtic fans you’re jumping for joy with Red Sox fans for the most part. Just saying. Whole different topic though.

Cowboys fans should be willing to pay more. Giants fans (season ticket holders or otherwise) have 8 games to choose from, while Cowboys fans in the area only have one.

For many, a Monday night game is less desirable to go to as they dont want to get home at 2am.

The Jewish holiday does knock out a portion of the fan base.

Lastly, some of these sales would have happened before the season started when the Cowboys fans would be overly optimistic about their season (and Giamts fans overly pessimistic).

I was a Celtics fan when I was a kid - because they were winners. I did become a Knicks fan eventually, but I don't watch basketball anymore because the Knicks suck.
As to Red Sox...I am not a hateful fan. I am a diehard Yankees fan. But I do not despise the Red Sox or their fans. I would likely root for the Mets over the Red Sox ina WS, but it would be close(AL over NL). The only team I despise is the Eagles and most of their fans.
But yes, out of town team favorites are likely because that team was good when people were kids and on TV all the time or their parents were fans of that team.

Tix before the season. I suspect some of the Giants’ STM are regretting that decision to sell but it is what it is.

Night games generally are a hassle, which is another reason to sell, although we are looking forward to tonight’s.

Here’s hoping we chase those front runners out of the stadium.

I always laugh at the the way I picked the cornerstone franchises in their sport being a child of 8 to 10 years old and not knowing anything about sports in general.

I have and will always be a fan of those teams till my end. I'm a diehard, a fanatic, rooting for my teams over 50 plus years now. And someone that doesn't know me will call me a front runner or bandwagon fan. It's incredible how people generalize things when they don't understand.

I believe people become fans of teams more because of family and experiences rather than geography, at least the ones that are lifelong fans. There is that emotional connection that binds till the end.

I have been going to Giants games for over 30 years, I have not been to a game where it was ever 50/50 Cowboys to Giants fans. Most I ever saw was 75/25. It always seems like more because it is like sitting next to a pile of dog shit, it stinks and you dont want to look at it. I am expecting another large showing by Cowboy scum tonight. but it seems like the fanbase in the stadium has started to slowly turn over and gotten younger. There was obviously a big change when they opened MetLife - but even since then I see more young people in my section and neighboring sections. And that crowd is desperate for a good team and something to cheer for. A primetime game against a divisional rival on a 70 degree night is basically peak conditions.

Long-winded way of saying I think the crowd will be pretty good tonight.
