NFT: House of The Dragon……tonight….

thrunthrublue : 9/25/2022 10:02 pm
Yikes, seems to be a big leap forward almost necessitating knowledge of the book/story to follow, to figure out who…. is now, who and the why…..
This story takes place over a 30 year period

First 5 episodes should be viewed as an extended prologue. This is when the meat of the story actually begins.

I didn't find it difficult to know who anyone was.
never read the books

Everything has been easy to follow, even with the time jump. This show continues to deliver the goods every episode so far.
Not a reader either

And I kept asking myself for the first half "is that a different actress"? it was. "Didn't the King die in the last episode?" He did not.

And that the dude killed his brother and father took a while to understand.

But BOY do I love this show. Game on!
Really Bummed To Not See Milly Alcock

IMHO Milly was gorgeous. The actress who replaced her, meh at best in both appearance and acting skills.

The weakest spot for me (Spoilers)

is the (and forgive the expression) aborted Daemon/Laena subplot. She can't give birth, so she self-immolates as the next best alternative? I know she wasn't happy with her lot in life, but this didn't quite track for me.

Larys is my favorite character, as the name suggests, a mash-up of Littlefinger and Varys, about two centuries before we meet them.

Agreed, she did say earlier though that she wanted to die a dragonriders death. Maybe she knew he was going to have them cut the baby out?
So grateful

to see posts about House of the Dragon on BBI.

Our entire family is so incredibly proud of my nephew Ryan and the success of his latest show. Through last Wednesday, Episode 5 had been viewed over 29 million times, making it the most popular show currently on TV.

Those that follow me on BBI know that Ryan is not only a great writer and showrunner, but also an avid fan and Giants season ticket holder.

While Ryan is incredibly busy working on Season 1 and Season 2 and will not be attending tonight's Giants vs Cowboys match, he has confirmed with me that he already has his Giants vs Packers tickets at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 9th and will be there to cheer on Big Blue.
While I do enjoy

watching this show, it pales in comparison to Game of Thrones. I could stop watching right now or continue to watch. Won't regret it either way.

She was going to die anyway. When the dead baby can't come out, mom dies from sepsis. And we know from episode one a c-section is death for the mom in those days. So might as well go out in a blaze of glory.

I agree, but it's different. I mean GoT involved many different characters and families so everything was kept fresh in a sense. When there was an saturation of Starks exposure, they'd focus on the Lannisters. When you began to think that Jon Snow was being focused on too much, you'd cut to what Dany was doing. With HOTD, you're only focusing on one family, really at one location (with the exception of wherever Daemon is).

Milly is gorgeous, but both she and Emilia Clarke practiced a kind of wooden, almost stoic type of acting. Older Rhaenarya was A LOT more animated and theatrical, for better or worse.

Did she overhear Daemon talking to the miser? I thought that was the implication. Or she kind of saw the writing on the wall and decided to die her way instead of dying like Aerys' wife died in the first episode.

In the story that scene goes a bit different. It’s not spoilers but I know people are weird about discussing the books so i won’t say unless someone wants. I think the book version would have been better in this instance.
I guess it makes a level of sense from a medical standpoint
BlackLight : 9/26/2022 2:32 pm : link
but I just felt sidewiped by the whole thing. In the first five episodes, we see Laena twice. Once as a child when she was being offered to Viserys as a child bride, and then once at Rhaenyra's wedding when she's getting all flirty with Daemon. Then we jump ahead ten years, and now she's married to Daemon, with two kids, and working on number three. Then by the end of the episode, she's charcoal.

it seemed underwritten to me as well. I think you can just chalk it up to the inherent challenges of adapting this stuff for TV.
