In general QB play around the league is not good

Giantimistic : 9/26/2022 6:56 pm
Watching games through the first 2 weeks, it is amazing how there are not more good QBs. The rules keep changing in favor of the offense and you can't breathe on the QBs anymore.

The transition from college should be easier with the way the rules are, but there are so many failures. For there to be almost no major QBs in an entire draft like last year is surprising.

Why aren't there more good QBs being developed.

Have Defenses caught up to what offenses are doing? Is the real answer that oline play is so bad across the league and dline play and edge play has outplayed online play?

It would be interesting to compare on average how much time QBs have to throw now verse other years.

Even when I look at a great promising QB like Burrow, he has to work magic on almost every play with his oline play. Herbert did not look as great when Slater went out. I think Dak looked a lot better when he had an elite line. I think we are seeing something similar with the Eagles.

The best QBs right now have the ability to get away from pressure because they need to be able to survive and through the ball. Tom Brady is an abnormal in many ways, but we saw how he responds when dline gets the best of his oline.

TB12 has looked blah this entire season. I wonder if he regrets coming back.
QB PLAY

I have noticed this also..Even some of the elite QB's
are not doing well.Seems like the young players on defense, are doing really well for themselves..Is that a trend? I don't know..If so,the NFL will change the rules again to favor the offense..
Herbert was playing injured, he ripped some rib cartilage

(or something like that). I'd give him a pass, he's looked very good so far.

He's certainly dealing with more stress away from the field.
Absolute idiot if you asked me (but yeah, I guess no one is).

Make a similar comment in another post....just terrible QB play....even stalwarts like Brady and Wilson look way off...

Regardless, I agree. QB play has not been good overall through WK3.

Allen and LJax have been spectacular, but that's to be expected.

After them, it's slim pickings and down to, incredibly, Hurts, Tua and even Lawrence.

Strange, strange, strange.

I haven't seen Lawrence, but from all accounts...Pederson has been a boon for his career. I think we play them next month so I guess we'll see then.
I think its a lot of factors
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/26/2022 7:17 pm : link
Some teams have poor OL's. Some teams lack upper tier TE's/WR's. Some teams lack running games.

QB's need some form of solid PB/OL with upper tier skills OR very strong running game with solid skill players.

It gets really hard without either imv.

Watched high stakes qb play. Allen, Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers looked bad.
One thing defense has going for it early in the year

I feel like offseason and training camp rules limiting contact hurt O-lines more than any other unit. Football doesn't look right until October

He's still UFB, but Mahomes' second half performance vs. Cincinnati in the AFC title game...I can't shake it. He was AWFUL.

Allen blew that game with some awful throws.

I was really into pursuing Pederson. I believe he's underrated - too many people give too much credit to Reich for the Philly SB run - and he may be the best thing that ever happened to Lawrence and the Jags.

But back to Lawrence. He's completing 70% of his passes, had a 6:1 TD/INT ratio, has a 70+ QBR and a 7 YPA.

Pretty damn solid.
Don't fall into the early season trap.

Summer camp is short. September football is glorified camp, especially for Brady who took two weeks off because who knows why.

Teams don't take shape and find their groove right away.

I don't know.

It was close the entire game, yet Dorsey had Allen throw 63X in jungle conditions. I think he just got worn out.

I get the 'Well, September is glorified training camp/TB12 took two weeks off' take...but I'd counter, the dude is 45. Father Time is still undefeated.

& listen, I could be proven 100% wrong in the coming weeks & months. But I've seen a lot of the Bucs these first 3 games & he doesn't look like the 2021 TB12. For some of these dudes...when it is over, it is over like that.

And I'm glad the Giants passed on that asshole. What he does with other teams is five I'm just glad we didn't lower ourselves to him.

Hopefully we have our guy for the next 15+ years. Looking good so far though granted way too early.

I think it's way too early for that. The Dallas defense was brutal to Cinci and I thought he did pretty well. Other years vs the Saints he has mightily struggled regardless of the which year the past few.

And this past week he had crummy receivers going against a pretty good defense.
The league better

stop letting QB's who have thrown the ball get hit after the throw. I am no fan of the Pats but their Jones had thrown the ball and he was hit and twisted to the ground resulting in the high ankle sprain. It is happening every game with hits after the ball is away. Their move or have fans watch a season with backup QBs.
You look at that Brady
allstarjim : 9/26/2022 8:56 pm : link
Situation and he lost Gronk to retirement, and really has had Godwin for only a couple of plays. No Evans OR Julio this past week, either. Also lost some guys on the OL, so I think under these circumstances it would be tough for any QB.

Godwin in particular is such a key target for Brady, so when he and Evans are back on the field together it's going to be a lot better for TB12.
Lamar Jackson, Tua, Allen and Hurts say
HomerJones45 : 9/26/2022 9:34 pm : link
“Hold my beer”.

Qb play is fine. The lack of camp and practice time is showing. Most teams run the same boring short pass offense. Defenses blitz like crazy and the o lines haven’t practiced enough to coordinate the protection.

This is like preseason. Give it a few more weeks and the offenses will solidify.
