Because I seem to remember countless drops and misplays at crucial times (like the one today) as well as the inevitable injury that forces us to scramble to replace him at some point in the season.
Was he really that good at any point ever? I think this is like the “Flinstones vs Flintstones” thing where we just assume he’s good because he’s been here for a long time. Im sorry he got hurt but he was average at best before you even consider injuries.
Go somewhere else, or retire. Time for the Giants to move on.
+ 1 Exactly this.
It's past time actually.
I fully agree with you Dave. He's been here for far too long. I would have cut him this offseason, but for some reason they agreed to a cut in salary. He's always injured and this wasn't a surprise. Best wishes to him of course, but this is business.
and BBI did not dissapoint, he was a great plyer and the only receiver that had done anything this young season.. Some people: You are a fucking disgrace....
as a possession guy and a terrific blocking WR. Not an all time great. He would be a 4 or 5 WR on most teams.
It was time to move on two years ago. Bad contract kept him around.
One of the better receivers we’ve had, a solid giant who deserved more, and a good guy.
Wish him the best and a speedy recovery.
Shep has NEVER been one of the Giants' better receivers. Wish him well? Certainly. But his career here has been a disappointment.
Hes #16 all time on the giants in yards and 8 in receptions. Not sure what one has to do to be called one of our “better” receivers but sheps done it.
He might have been better on a better team, sure, but he has never gone over 1000 yards once. Has he topped 70 receptions in any season? I’m not trying to be “classless” on a message board but I’m really trying to figure this out. I’m pretty sure he’s replacement level.

Empty stats mostly. What are you, his relative or agent?
Can we agree he’s a top 25 giants receiver all time? 30? He’s up there, a good player on shitty teams with bad QB play. Go ahead and rip the guy on a night when his career might be over if you must but I’m done.

He was never a world beater but definitely top 5 for the Giants since 2000. Beyond that he just always brought an awesome attitude.
...dropped passes and that stupid stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
He's here because of good hands and can be a role model to younger WRs. Well so much for that.
Really fucking annoying that he is over $4 million dead cap in 2023 when they could have cut him this year with no dead cap in 2023.
I really don't know why they didn't just cut him. Seemed like a compromise and that Daboll and Schoen wanted him back for some odd reason despite this being a "take their medicine" type of year.

Who's ripping him? We all wish him well health-wise, but reality is reality. You're in Fantasy Land about the kind of player he's been for the Giants.

They didn’t cut him because they could afford to. Would have cost $4m and his contract was one of the last they could have restructured. Try keeping up.

You're right, I am sorry for what I posted. Just blowing off steam after a bad loss, and he's played hard for the Giants.

I'm well aware BillT. I'm well aware of how the cap works. Chill out and take a Xanax.

If we're talking just Giants WRs he's 7th all time in receiving yards. That's pretty impressive for a slot receiver. I think maybe you're confused about what to expect from a receiver. Not everyone is going to put up OBJ stats every year.
SHEP had good hands, mediocre speed, subpar availability and he's done
a great player. He's an average player with a big heart. Unfortunately, his heart is the only part of his body that matches up with the demands of the game. Bittersweet, but this is goodbye
Get well soon and retire.
Wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

Doesn’t affect Golladay at all. He’s here this year, gone next.
