Our Drafts vs. the Cowboys' Drafts

Anakim : 9/27/2022 12:23 am
It was brought to light on today's broadcast:

1) The Cowboys have made 20 draft picks since 2021. All 20 made the 53-man roster. 71% of the Cowboys roster consists of players that they’ve drafted.

2) Cowboys have drafted the following OL in the first round inn recent years: Tyron Smith; Zack Martin; Travis Frederick.

The Football Giants have drafted the following OL in the first round: Ereck Flowers; Justin Pugh; Andrew Thomas (exception)

Too early to tell about Evan Neal and Tyler Smith, but Smith did have the better game tonight.

That's not to say that the Cowboys are the beacon of the NFL because they're not. However, you see the importance of good drafting. Missing on top-10 picks like Flowers and Apple; getting nothing from guys like Baker and Toney; overdrafting/reaching on guys like DJ and Lawrence.

Hopefully Schoen turns all this around.
Yep, that's the main thing that stood out to me

How many OL from the Giants did not get second contracts? - None.

It's not just OL, other areas of the team, the Giants' picks have not worked out. Not sure where the problem is...scouting? luck? DG was a big part of that but I thought problem went back to Reese days - really since 2012. How is Dallas hitting on their picks? we are not?
To me the Giants biggest roster building issue

has been the massive swing-and-misses in free agency.

Golladay and Solder are 2 of the worst, if not the worst contracts in the NFL in the last 4 years. Theres also been whiffs like Omameh, Stewart, Rudolph, Bethea, Tate, and Shepard. Dead cap from deals like Bradberry, Martinez, Beckham. Even mismanaging Eli's contract at the end.

Of course the drafts haven't been great either, but they've at least hit a few home runs there, although its notable that Barkley is the only remaining Giant from the 2018 draft.

Adoree is the only external free agent signing from the Gettleman era that is contributing (positively) and outplaying the value of his contract year, and yet the Giants had no cap space heading into Schoen's first offseason.
Spot on..

Nailed it. The only post you need to read this entire week.
I don't know about the Tyler Smith/Evan Neal comparison,

Smith had a lot of help, and the competition he was facing (the Giants pass rushers), weren't on the same level as the Cowboys.

That said, not taking trading down last year and not selecting Parsons is the difference between a playoff team, and a below average team.
I have mentioned this for a while

What destroyed this franchise was losing its physicality on the scrimmage lines. It was not TC or Eli. This started a decade ago with very little progress.

It is much closer on D to restoring it (Williams being out was huge) but it needs more and the OL needs to make advances and still needs more investment.

Glad more people are seeing the hard reality of what destroyed and what needs to come back to this franchise.

Really see how valuable Leonard Williams is to this team in a game like last night. He's not a kid anymore, but I hope with his history of health and style of play he can age relatively well.

Giants need to invest in the interior of each line. Need quick pass rush wins up the middle, knock qbs off their spot.

Play of the game for the cowboys was Rush standing in the pocket and delivering the sideline throw when Dex was coming in on him.
