Albert Breer Update on WR Kenny Golladay

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/27/2022 9:19 am
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer

The Giants were more than willing to take on a significant chunk of his salary to move Kenny Golladay before the roster cutdown, to no avail. He’s been available for a while—with the contract making it difficult to trade him.

Might take an injury somewhere to make it happen.
I feel like he just killed any chance of getting

moved lastnight. Pathetic display.

Trade him for a medium Pepsi at this rate.

Banks : 9/27/2022 9:25 am : link
It's unreal just how bad of a signing he was. We are desperate for any wr to step up and our 72M wr is losing time to practice squad players. I only Godwin of the available FAs that year, but I didn't expect KG to be completely useless. I don't know who DJ can rely on this year.
At least when he wasn't playing
larryflower37 : 9/27/2022 9:25 am : link
Teams could speculate on what he had left but what he put on film last night was horrible.
He needs to sit down and shut up.
what team is going to want him....
BillKo : 9/27/2022 9:26 am : link
...based on what he has shown?

Honestly, he doesn't deserve to start on NYG which is saying something.

Could the Rams bite?
Only trade possibility is....
BillKo : 9/27/2022 9:28 am : link
....someone who knows him and willing to take a chance on change of scenery, which is why I say the Rams.

Their coach can probably get him routes to be somewhat productive and their QB can throw it in tight windows which is what Golladay gives you.

Why not just cut him?
Bold Ruler : Mod : 9/27/2022 9:29 am : link
Show the team and the league that this team has changed from the Mara enabled Gettleman nightmare. Promote someone off the PS and at least have someone on the field willing to try.

Bold - it adds an additional 4.5 million to our cap to cut him -- that's why it hasn't happened already

Because of the cap implications, plus they've benched him anyway. Serves the same purpose (although using the roster spot sucks).
File this under no shit sherlock.
robbieballs2003 : 9/27/2022 9:38 am : link
This is what some of us were saying yesterday. Nobody wants him and the Giants were trying to stir up interest in the media.
How many good to great rookie WR’s

Have been drafted in the last 5 years? Feels like it’s been a ton. Giants have none of them

About this new regime is that they don't suffer fools. Toney and Golladay are the prime examples. Richie James and David Sills are less talented but work harder and are rewarded thusly. It shows how poor our talent is but how honest our coaches are about who plays and why.
Nobody
AcidTest : 9/27/2022 9:59 am : link
wants him. We're stuck with Golladay. Injuries around the league won't suddenly make him "tradeable" IMO. Bench him.

I agree that Daboll and Schoen are handling this correctly. The best players play, regardless of contract or draft status. On that basis, Golladay should sit. Toney needs to get and stay on the field soon or he will be in the same category.
Kenny Golladay
JoeyBigBlue : 9/27/2022 9:59 am : link
Will be shown the door towards the end of February 2023. Until then we are stuck with him. Hopefully sitting him out will light a fire under his ass.

christian : 9/27/2022 10:00 am : link
Golladay had the opportunity to build some interest for himself and potentially get traded to a better team and play more.

He failed last night. He's probably getting another chance with Shepard out.

The contract thing is a red herring. As discussed in a great detail on many threads, a team acquiring Golladay could have him for as little as a 4.5M cap hit next year, total.

Golladay isn't getting traded because he's no good, not his contraact.
Agree 100% Joey
Rick in Dallas : 9/27/2022 10:01 am : link
Contracts and draft status mean nothing to our coaches.Show your desire to play during practice means everything to these coaches as well it should.

Yup. And fans need to be patient with new front office aligning playmaking talent selection with the coaches. Many of us said from get go there would be a need for a couple years to do it along with interior OL needs and QB questions that need to be addressed.

Given the Golladay, Toney, Shepard slots and questions still at TE, this front office has their work and time needed cut out for them.
Put his butt on the practice squad
Giant John : 9/27/2022 10:10 am : link
And use him as a tackling dummy. At least then he earns some of his paycheck.

----I am not sure why, but I read that as a threat and started laughing.

Like, Schoen was going to have to physically beat someone up to get them to take Golladay.

Which, ya know, might be the best strategy at this point . . .

After one year purge, Giants are third best for cap space in 23, second best in 24. I think they will fight tooth and nail to maintain that edge. After LW restructure, they have few options to create the cap space to absorb a $4:5M hit in any case.
Wiat, I read an article that the last regime checked his past...
sb from NYT Forum : 9/27/2022 10:36 am : link
...and concluded that he's not a headcase, but a team player and a good guy who was just misunderstood?

Is is possible that Gettleman, O'Brien and Judge were completely clueless fools?

Or lied to the press to make their head-scratching moves look better?
No matter how much KG makes
stoneman : 9/27/2022 10:47 am : link
He is still better than Stills. Last night was the third fall on the turf that caused plays to melt down, third. He can't stay on his feet when the spotlight is on him.

With Shepard gone now, he will be the starter - due to attrition.

Please learn how the cap works.

In order to put him on the practice squad, they'd have to release him first, thus accelerating his remaining bonus money. And if you're going to do that, you might as well leave him released.

I think health might be getting in the way, too.

A potential trade partner might think there has to be a physical issue - not attitude - and they don't want to take on that risk.

If KG is just going through a case of "WR-Ego-Syndrome", you might be able to sell that by coming clean and saying KG just needs a change of scenery and the NYG are just a bad fit. Etc.
He can't move
Jerry in_DC : 9/27/2022 11:17 am : link
Whatever injuries he's had have sapped his athleticism. Guys don't just go from being good to being out of the league at his age without physical problems. We've certainly seen it happen to a lot of Giants over the past 10 years.

Maybe he's got a bad attitude too. But it seems obvious that he just can't play anymore.

Deserves the clown show treatment/photoshop that Mara, Tisch, Getts and Judge received.
This whole thing is strange

Seems like after last years New Orleans game, his best as a Giant,he's fallen off a cliff.Coincidentally, the entire Giants offense fell off a cliff around the same time.

I'd like to hear his opinion, especially if he gets traded or released.
Trade him to....
riceneggs : 9/27/2022 12:26 pm : link
Trade him to Baltimore for Tyler Huntley
at this point keep marching him out there and throw the ball to him
Dinger : 9/27/2022 1:39 pm : link
more than twice. He'll either get better or he won't. If he doesn't go back to Slip Sliding Sills. If he does, trade him and go back to slip sliding sills. Get toney out there and have him go across the middle a couple times so he can know what getting injured is really like(see Shep). Get Slayton on the field somehow. I mean our playbook must be incredibly hard for these 3 receivers not to get it or not to want to try.
