Art Stapleton opines on Odell Beckham

Art Stapleton @art_stapleton

I guess this needs to be pointed out this morning:

Odell Beckham Jr. is not coming back to the Giants. He's rooting for them and desperately wanted to be the guy here, but he's not coming back, not right now.

When he returns from the ACL, likely in November, it won't be here.
I really liked Odell

but two ACLs and his best is far behind him. This is a rebuilding team. Odell doesn't help.

Stop with the Odell Beckham Jr. talk. #Giants have no cap space to match what he can get elsewhere. He hates losing and this team is at ground-level rebuild. He has a king injury history. He bickers with QBs. There is zero argument for it being right for either side
Think he ends up with

Bills.
Save for those actually drafted by the Giants

Who — willingly — would want to come to a franchise coming off a decade in the NFL wilderness and now just starting a lengthy re-build?

Would be a great situation for him.

I think he goes back to the Rams. He loves LA and by the time he comes back in November, Buffalo will be gearing up for the winter months. Which is, umm, not ideal weather for a guy that loves the sunshine

I think LA or perhaps the LAC if they have more injuries (they lost Guyton for the year). New Orleans would be a possibility with Landry there.
He's going to join Brady

and the Bucs.
That ship has sailed.

Makes no sense for the Giants. It's too bad his career went how it did, I will always wonder what could have been if we made it work.
has there every been a sign and trade in the NFL

We trade Golladay to a team that we have sign Odell so they can trade him to us and keep the cap numbers within limits?

This raises an interesting question: What's more important to him, winning or lifestyle? There are a few places that might offer both, notably Miami and Tampa Bay, maybe New Orleans. If it's winning, Buffalo, KC and Philadelphia are going to be on his list. Possibly Dallas. If it's lifestyle, the Rams (I don't think they're making another run this year), Chargers, Saints, 49ers and maybe Las Vegas are more attractive.

Either way he should have plenty of attractive options, depending on what he has left and who is interested.

Hard to imagine him ending up in any NFC North or AFC North destination except Baltimore, and even that's a stretch. Too run-oriented there. But if he's very limited after the surgery, maybe that's a place to try to chase another ring.
He’s only going to sign a 1yr deal

I agree it won’t be here though. Giants will have cap space and could be on the market for a veteran WR next offseason though, although it won’t be at the top of the market. How OBJ looks and performs on his mercenary contract will dictate what type of market he gets.

Why would the other team do that? They can just trade vapor for Golladay and let the Giants sign whatever replacement they choose (Beckham or not) without having to have that replacement pass through their roster on the way.

Explain what the point of doing it your way would be?
