Cant Kill Daboll For Not Challenging 4th Down Catch

LTIsTheGreatest : 9/27/2022 10:17 am
Giants had just burned 1 timeout, and looking at the replays it most likely would not have been overturned, which would have cost them another timeout. What did you guys think?
Cowboys also rushed the next play

...So I doubt anyone had time to analyze a replay
that didn't bother me
djm : 9/27/2022 10:22 am : link
what did was when Daboll went for it on that 4th and 2 end of the half and gave Dallas a shot at stealing points there. HE got a little lucky, but to be fair we should have gotten the 4th and 2.

Also, his lack of a plan that helps protect Jones was alarming but sometimes it doesn't matter what you do.
When I saw the replay
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/27/2022 10:22 am : link
I thought he was short. BD said in the postgame he had the flag and the upstairs people said he made the first down.
He just said in the transcript
David B. : 9/27/2022 10:23 am : link
They guys upstairs told him the player made the first down -- i.e. don't bother challenging it.
If they hadn't burned the timeout
Blue Dream : 9/27/2022 10:23 am : link
They could have challenged the play. Why did they need to burn one there? Should have been no surprise that the Cowboys were going given where they were on the field.
it was pretty clear on replay that the spot would stand
Greg from LI : 9/27/2022 10:23 am : link
Barely made it, but I thought it was obvious that he had it

He was knocked backawards while in the air, but forward progress would have given him the first down I beleive
Dallas D had their ears pinned back

Odd we didn't set up more screens and continue to run it more
Watching it in real time it looked short
Poktown Pete : 9/27/2022 10:26 am : link
Given the magnitude of the situation, I felt the challenge should have come out immediately. Had the challenge been successful, Giants likely hold on to win. The fact that the Cowboys rushed the next play tells me they didn't want it reviewed. In my opinion it was worth the gamble and I was yelling at the tv for Daboll to throw the flag.

Going for the 4th and 2 was the right play given the time left but we ran the wrong play. you have to run a play there that takes 5/6 seconds so the cowboys only have one play left. i would have rolled jones out giving him a run pass option with the instruction to just throw it away deep if nothings there.
He indicated that he was considering
Simms11 : 9/27/2022 10:29 am : link
Throwing the flag, but they confirmed he got the first from upstairs and so he thought otherwise and then then ran another play quickly.

That was the right call to go for it. 10 seconds left. Giants ran a stupid play that wasn’t 50/50. Quick slant wastes 3-4 seconds. Stupid play call. You go with a regular play call and worse case there’s 2-3 seconds left on the clock. If you complete the pass timeout FG attempt. If you don’t. Turnover on down they have one shot at a Hail Mary. Going was the absolute right call. No doubt about it. Play call was especially stupid

Same Greg, his forward progress clearly made the line to gain.
Agree the play was not the best on 4th and 2
Lines of Scrimmage : 9/27/2022 10:33 am : link
I think they needed about ten yards to get in FG position. Would have been better to run a longer developing play imv.

The playcall and game management was bad. Ten seconds left. You want to make sure they can't run two plays. Last thing you should do is a quick slant.

You either get the ball to Bark, throw a pass downfield or have Jones roll out. A play that gets you in FG range if successful and burns 7 seconds if not successful.
I said it in the game thread and postgame thread but
OBJ_AllDay : 9/27/2022 10:53 am : link
I think the Giants failed to run the ball when they had a number of opportunities to do so. I think it changed the outcome of the game. They were way too reliant on the pass.
I said last night that Kafka didnt have a good game
Snablats : 9/27/2022 10:56 am : link
He is a rookie, too. The slant to Golladay was open but Jones was late and threw it behind him
