He plays his butt off and just can't stay healthy. Was always a team player and did everything we asked him, but I think that this is likely it for Shep's tenure with the Giants.

It might be it for his career, you never know?
I think that's a fair assessment. He's had some brutal lower body injuries the last few years.

I think more likely this. It's probably the end of the line for Shep. Sad to see.
I previously sent a paper on the injuries to lower extremities on turf vs. grass. These guys wear deep cleats and get hung up in the substrate. The guy wasn't even in contact and he was decelerating!

Too bad Wan'dale Robinson is a bust..can't stay on the field and my guess is he doesn't work hard!
One catch for 5 yards for a 2nd round pick.. psh.. time to cut him! He obviously doesn't care about helping the Giants or else he'd be playing through his injury that I know nothing about!
sad, especially considering how hard he worked to come back from his torn achilles at the end of last year. But his NFL career is over IMO. In addition to the achilles and torn ACL, he also has a pretty significant concussion history.
I assume the Giants will promote Johnson from the PS. I also wonder if they'll sign Bachman to the PS.

He was barely jogging. My guess is that ACL was already torn and hanging on by a thread and just let go. I did not see him catch his cleat or even stumble(IIRC).
His body couldn't keep up with his spirit, but it never stopped him from battling back time after time. Heart of a Giant, and a true leader on this team. And he's obviously going to be missed on the field.
If this is it for his playing days, I'd have to imagine he'd be a great candidate to get some kind of commentating opportunity on one of the sports/football channels. He's got a lot of personality and plenty of experience to lean on. However this plays out, I wish him the best, and I hope that whatever he's netted during his NFL career carries him over to the next stage of success (whatever that may be).

That's what I'm thinking. Hurt it before he started jogging and it completely gave way soon after.
At 29, it's probably the end of his time as a Giant. That said, whether it's the end of his career, or not, I expect he'll to try and rehab it again. They almost always do.
Of all the awful things the Giants have done over the last ten years that stadium may be the worst. It's ugly, has no character and it seems like they certainly screwed the field up if you go by the injuries and the numerous teams and players that complain about it.
wasn't even cutting. Don't often see a torn ACL jogging in a straight line. Link - ( New Window )
It might have been partially torn already.
That's what I was thinking too.
I could have sworn he hurt himself on the play prior. He landed poorly and then the DB seemed to roll on it too. Might not have even been the same leg but I said it after that play that he was hurt. I was shocked when he went back out.
State of the Giants aside, this is absolutely devastating. I’ve been a big Shep supporter since I learned about his story with his father, Bob Stoops, and what football meant to the kids. I know some fans get annoyed with, and sour on, players when they’re oft-injured, myself included, but I never did with Shep. His injury-filled career genuinely broke my heart, never wanted to see an individual player succeed more.
I have to imagine this is the end for him, which makes it sadder.

Agreed
Super underrated player. So consistent and hard working. Really bummed for him
he was one concussion away from potentially serious long-term issues. Sad to lose him, but I was worried about him playing this season. At least he didn't get that next concussion and have to roll the dice on a much more serious problem.

the achilles was on the same leg and as scientific as the rehabs can be it's never perfect. I think when kobe came back from his achilles quickly he then broke his leg shortly into his comeback.
i feel bad for shep and wish him well. he wanted to be a good giant and did almost everything in his power to do so. healthy he wasn't quite as good as we hoped and obviously has suffered a string of bad luck virtually unrivaled in the injury department. i only wish he could have at least gone down in a good performance instead of one where he made 2 brutal plays in the second half that could have changed the outcome.

One is bad
The other is injured
People have to stop lumping them together, it's ridiculous

I may be wrong, but I think Shep was the last draft pick we have had to get a second contract after their rookie deal.

Solid receiver who could just never stay healthy. Shame.
The stadium sucks, the turf sucks and they both have lost and continue to lose in so many ways because of this shared arrangement.

I saw VICTA CRUZ in a Dick's Sporting Goods last week. Looked kinda bored. Couldn't hurt!
Well, we had his son in Training Camp.

Ricky Proehl today. Told him to please call the Giants. They need him. He's only 54 years old. He'd probably be the best WR on the roster.

Yes! Get the band back together. Hakeem? You reading this?

I would argue that due to injuries we never got to see the “best” of Shep. Wasted potential.
must of been the ticking timebomb injury
