Well his pitches were getting

up in the zone - but 0-2 count to Biggio and he could get the slider down...ajita ever game. Cheezy pop up that the shift allowed for a hit.

His PC was low, but he was giving up a lot of harder contact. He was fortunate a couple of them went to fielders and Bichette/Vlad bailed us out with BR mistakes.

I thought Taillon pitched well, I just felt like Boone stayed with him too long.

Huge DP for Lou.
Props to Boone

Through 8 and Trivino only threw 1 pitch

Revising my dislike for Trivino..

Yes his 4 seamer was way up out of the zone and breaking balls in the zone. Was getting a bit tired so not driving through the pitch.

Now get a couple more tack ons to make it easier
Cannot have Donaldson and Stanton

Does he stay with Trivino for the bottom of the 9th?

Division Champs!

That's the first order of business. Especially now, with the new format.

This was the deepest, toughest division in all of baseball this year and it wasn't a debate.

Next stop, October.
Nice! Time to celebrate something boys
Stu11 : 9/27/2022 10:09 pm : link
We'll except for Rasputin because he just loves being miserable. Lou Trivino is like the right handed Wandy. You can use him in any situation 5th inning or closing it out. Like Wandy you know he won't panic.
Victory!!

Congrats on the Division title!!!

Taillon pitched a really good (and lucky) game. I was shocked Boone left him in so long.

Problem with having a team with so many young players is the nonsense we saw on the base paths from TOR. Just inexcusable shit, but good for the Yankees.

How did Judge fall behind 1-2 each PA, then never see another strike? Especially on 3-2 counts???? Shits ridiculous. These division rivals really don’t want to see him do it against them.
They pulled away
rnargi : 9/27/2022 10:13 pm : link
After a near historic collapse seemed imminent just a couple weeks ago. They've reached 500 after the break. That in itself is a great feat.

I may be dining on some crow on Trivino. That seemed a comfortable 9th against the meat of the order. Don't mind be wrong there.

Supposedly DJLM coming of IL tomorrow - Peraza sent down???
the division
RasputinPrime : 9/27/2022 10:16 pm : link
seemed a foregone conclusion two months ago.

Time for a half dozen guys to nut the F up or it won't be a long October.

I want to see Peraza stick with Cabrera. No reason we have Gonzalez kicking around with the clubhouse already full of vets. I'd like some guys that can play.
Yanks have decided that Hicks is a better defensive LF

Three weeks ago I would have said no way. But, they started to hit. Got Rizzo back. Torres decided to go with the pitch and Cabrera filled a big hole for Hicks empty bat. Bader makes the OF stronger, but they need his bat to come around and it should as this is mini spring training for him.

The BP seems to be stabilizing. Holmes has looked better as has Loaisiga. Effross is back, and yes Trivino looks good. Wandy was sent on vacation(his turn). If Briton can be Britton that is a huge add to he pen.

Sevy is back and looks good. Only Cole seems to be a problem with the gopher balls.

They can beat anyone not named Astros and if they get healthier in the next two weeks the have a chance.

IMHO

Well, Cabrera said so himself. Needs to take more fungoes out there. But a healthy Hicks in the OF is a good thing. That throw to second to nail Vlad Jr was a beauty. Good to have 4 healthy MLB OF'ers.
If Bader is truly the best defensive CF in baseball that is something(even top 3).

Step 1
Carson53 : 9/28/2022 9:10 am : link
is now accomplished, they can get some guys like Peraza in the lineup for a few days. They can also see if somebody like Britton or Chapman can actually help them in the playoffs?
I am not holding my breath there, but we'll see.
They need to try and determine some roles in the bullpen,
would like to see Holmes get it together for the postseason!

We have our eyes on bigger goals, and the second half has certainly been up and down. But I don't want to lose sight of what an impressive regular season this was. Comfortably winning the best division in baseball is no small feat. Well done. Now let's get healthy in the lineup and get the bullpen lined up over these last 8 games

Vlad, Jr. tries to play hero ball too often on the basepaths, I have seen him get thrown out numerous times in his short career. Hicks threw him out by at least 10 feet, third out of the inning as well trailing by 3 runs...you're right, he can be a little annoying. They are a cocky bunch.

Yeah can't say that inning where we threw both him and Bichette out at 2b wasn't very satisfying. Can't stand Bichette with his helmet always flying off and that stupid Duran Duran hairdo.

Section, I would sit Judge tonight, then they have a day off on Thurs. as well. Then the Birds come to NY for 3 games.
If Boone doesn't sit him, he will most likely DH?

The good news is time to rest, but
section125 : 9/28/2022 10:24 am : link
not too much. Get DJ somewhat right.
I think Britton is going to make it. I know some of you are not Britton fans - too many Wetteland type reliefs, but the guy is a competitor and been there and done that. Needs to have plenty of work to regain control to be effective. When and if that he gets his control back, he absolutely is a candidate for 8th and 9th inning time. Should make an appearance every third game to work.

Somebody needs to figure out what the heck is going on with Stanton. He is a total mess. At this point Hicks would be an upgrade. I thought that the GS against Pittsburgh was the start. If he does not start hitting, they may as well leave him off the roster and put DJ as designated hitter. As bad as he has been at the plate, at least Donaldson has gold glove level fielding ability that he can provide.
I just can’t see them leaving Stanton off given how he hit
ajr2456 : 9/28/2022 10:29 am : link
In postseasons past. How many pitchers do we think take?

Position wise I’d think locks are: Judge, Cabrera, Torres, Trevino, Rizzo, Bader, IKF, Donaldson, higgy, Stanton. I’d say that leaves one spot for DJ or Hicks
Left off
ajr2456 : 9/28/2022 10:29 am : link
Peraza or locastro as the PR

13 pitchers is requirement max...??

IF
Rizzo, Torres, IKF, Donaldson, DJLM, Gonzalez(he will take the vet)

C
Trevino, Higgy

OF
Judge, Bader, Peraza, Hicks

DH
Stanton

Would love a speed guy in LoCastro, but who are they leaving off of the above. Perera may make it if DJLM's foot does not respond well. They could use Perara in the ALDS and if DJ's foot heals use DJ in ALCS.
You’re probably right on Peraza

I was thinking they’d use Cabrera as the emergency SS and throw Hicks in the OF.

Cabrera has only a game or two in the infield in MLB, but yes he was even taking balls at 1st. They may sit Gonzalez, as Peraza can do everything Marwin can do and is much better at the plate and a switch hitter, too. They may take Locastro in Marwin's place for the late inning speed guy.

The question is DJ's foot. If he cannot go, it changes a lot. That may be where Locastro's opening is with Marwin retaining super utility status.
Assuming you meant Cabrera in the OF

arcarsenal : 9/28/2022 10:57 am : link
Yeah, it's Cabrera that makes Marwin redundant, not Peraza. Waldo is a lock for the postseason.
.
arcarsenal : 9/28/2022 11:03 am : link
I know it feels like the Astros are this Goliath barrier keeping the Yanks away from the pennant, but the reality is that NYY/HOU have the same records against non-division AL teams.

Houston plays 57 games against LAA/OAK/TEX while the Yanks play those same games against TB/BOS/BAL.

The Pythagorean records are about identical (I think there's a 1 game differential.. that's it)

The Astros are the AL favorites right now and rightfully so, but I think there's almost become this perception that they have their own tier and the Yankees are one notch below and I don't see it that way.
