For a game where our offense was pretty bad (albeit in many respects because we were going against a great defense), I thought Kafka called a very good game. That Jones fake like jump pass to Bellinger was a thing of beauty. I felt a lot of the playcalls were great. There was a third down play to Shep where he isolated a Dallas defender and Jones kind of threw it above Shep's head (who dropped it), but if that is thrown leading him it was a first down. That type of clearout play was something we never saw. I also think they are getting more aggressive.
Bottom line, it has been three games so far and I love the flow to Kafka's playcalling. Think as the season goes on, our offense can get better.
Wink OTOH bugged me for the first time this week when he was giving a cushion to WR's on 3rd and short. That play calling annoyed me.
But yes, it is better than 3 yards and a cloud of rubber chips. And get the ball to Barkley..
I do like the design of the O compared to the last 2 years but we're still struggling to score points.
This offense needs a WR1, Center and a viable LG.
Some could argue we need a new QB and hope we have a Slot Receiver in Robinson.
I know the calls to "run the ball" on BBI are largely a hangover from a different era and I agree with Kafka's approach that you have to pass to open the run, especially since Cowboys had 8 in the box.
But Barkley has to run it more than 14 times. He also has to take shots with long passes down the field. Don't know if that's Jones or what. But one long completion will open things up. You have to put that possibility in the safety's mind.
So I would give playcalling a B+
They were getting there with four, it is hard to scheme against that
I realize Saquan needs a break, but we absolutely needed a TD there. You don't take by far your most dynamic playmaker out when your at you opponents 35 in that situation.
BTW, Breida also got completely trucked on 2 blitz pickups.
But yes, it is better than 3 yards and a cloud of rubber chips. And get the ball to Barkley..

I thought the whole purpose in scripting 20–25 plays was to then figure out what plays and variations of plays (looks) will be effective. If a team runs 6 plays per possession at the start, that will take 4 possessions before they get off script. Do you want fewer scripted plays? I’m not concerned about slow starts if the finishes are strong.
