The Big 10 decided to make UMD’s family weekend game vs Purdue a noon kickoff, so it looks like I’ll be providing a breakfast/brunch tailgate for my son, his buddies and their families in a few weekends. Any good ideas for grill food at that time of day for a decent sized group? We should have a few Weber Q series grills onsite. TIA.
Alternative is make a couple of trays of French toast and some sort of egg quiche night before and just heat up on grill for 8-9 hour and then switch to normal stuff around 11.
That and a container of coffee with sides of whiskey and Bailey's for those who want to accentuate their morning brew.
really easy prep......
Jalapeno Poppers - ( New Window )
And are super cheap
Bring grilling sausages (long sausages), Green Peppers (slice'em up the night before) , Yellow Onions (slice'em up the night before), Eggs and a cast iron pan.
Put your cast iron pan directly on the grill and use it to cook the Eggs, Onions and Peppers. Grill the Sausages. Should be quick, easy and it's good food. Bring bread!
If timing is an issue, you can always precook most of the meats and refrigerate them, so you only must worry about reheating some items.
Another option is making some casseroles ahead of time we have done a few like tater tot casserole with bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese. And strata’s or frittata's all different kinds that turned out well just need to reheat low and slow indirect heat.
We always did bacon and eggs and all that stuff and then later we'd do either burgers dogs or sausages peppers. Sometimes steak. We usually link up with an even bigger tailgate party and just contribute what we make, including bloody mary's--no tailgate is complete without the bloody mary's.
For those 9:30am start London games we do waffle egg sandwiches with bacon, sausage, hash browns and eggs between 2 waffle. Hard to recreate on the grill though.
