Thibs and azeez need to become big time edge players before too long and Williams needs to be back before too long. The offense will only go as far as Barkley and DJ can take it, but the D has numbers if the edge guys are as good as we hope. Not seeing those two on the injury report is important.
At this point, James, Golladay, Sills and Slayton are WR 1-4. Aside from being awful, that group is simply too small for game day. If the two DNPs can't suit up, at least one of the elevations will be a WR, possibly both. Johnson and Pimpleton are the realistic candidates; there's no way Makai Polk has learned the offense yet, let alone the multiple positions the 5th WR needs to know in case he has to step in.
They could simply sign one of the PS WRs to the roster; but they might opt to use the 53rd spot for one of the guys who is more likely to contribute long-term - say, Tony Jefferson or henry Mondeaux or even Jaylon Smith - and use temporary elevations for the WRs.
Leaving the 53rd slot vacant is also an option... and a symbol of the lingering stench from Gettleman's cap management.
RE: The use of the 53rd roster spot may depend on Toney and Robinson.
Eric as soon as they fill a slot, someone goes on IL....They are probably looking for WR to take Shep's spot and then there is Wan'Dale and Toney.
