I'm on the fence with him. I hear some fans say other QB with a bad OL still produce. I look at those QB I see legit number one or two WR. I look at DJ I see legit number three WR,not a number one for sure. I try to be fair about it. Some say too many excuses. I think is it his fault the Giants didn't fix the OL and bring in better WR. I know this sounds like I'm defending him which to a degree I am. I'm on the fence and just want to see what happens this season.
To my eye, Jones is lacking in the first 2, but has improved with the latter. He has shown great toughness, but you know who else showed great toughness? Joe Pisarcik. He had a crappy OL and crappy WR's, but I don't recall fans pining to keep him. No, Daniel is not as bad as Paterson Plank Joe was, but he hasn't shown to be good enough to warrant a 2nd contract.
But he is such a freakin likeable guy, and obviously has physical and mental toughness, and definitely has some talent.
I want so badly for him to succeed, and I think someday he will. I think hes a perfect case of like a Ryan Tanehill who someday will land in the perfect spot and have a nice little career. But it's almost certainly not here
The ideal if we can't improve the QB situation is to at least get a relief with Daniel Jones salary next year. At 15-20M per year for 2 years I'm ok with that. At 30M+ we will be very mad/sad next year at this time of the year.
We need to draft well (if we don't take a QB round 1, we need to draft a WR/TE)
Daniel (not a gamechanger) needs help. First don't take too much cap space, #2 we will get you help. #3 OL will gel sooner than later
we need to be intelligent in free agency next March... free agents may want to come here and they will now we have lots of cap space
If Jones had the Dallas OL and CeeDee Lamb Monday night, he would have thrown for 250+ and 2 TDs. I'm not the biggest Jones fan, but he performed pretty well for getting smacked around on every single play.

Had we swapped with Dallas' OL and WRs, would the QB performances have been any different?

*** and not having NFL-caliber WRs
However, you now have to pay him. Most winning teams are built first and then bring in a young QB on a rookie deal. We have the chance to do that now and I just think that is the smart way to go. Which is unfortunate for Jones.
That being said, unless he goes to a division rival, I would actively root for him to go find success in another spot in free agency. Just think he had some back timing here. He came in when they were depleted and it took way to long to admit they needed to tear it down. That is on Mara and Getty. He is just the victim of that bad timing.
If he comes out of the season improved but still with some of the same question marks, who else is going to sign him? If we are not in the position to draft a franchise QB, we're stuck needing a free agent QB. Will there be any better free agent QBs available? I would imagine that the Ravens tag Jackson.
It seems like a potential safety net for both sides might be for DJ to sign a team friendly deal after the season.
he is serviceable as shown by him managing a game despite having the worst WR group in NFL history and a pass blocking situation (part a result of no WRs) that has been terrible.
the end result is you cannot give him a big contract- nothing he has shown warrants that- even if he wins games he is not a difference maker.
you re-up difference makers- serviceable is not that.
It feels like I feel that way every year
Jones on a $20M/yr deal for 2-3 years while we build the OL, the WRs and the secondary doesn't seem like too bad a path.
That’s where a guy like Eli excelled. He was a master at adjusting the play or alignment pre-snap. I also think it’s on the Center also and maybe Feliciano was at fault there too?! We just don’t know.

And as SY says "HE can do it! (though so far he hasn't done it consistently of course)"
As he said in the past game he pout this lats game in the positive bucket for Jones.
Yet you have many dunces on here won't give him credit for either point.

If he does well this year and you can't find thr QB and more than likely the Giants aren't going anywhere next year either- why not give him a 1 year Franchise Tag?
