There are some interesting changes to the order today. Alonso is batting second for instance and Canha's hitting cleanup. Buck's got Alvarez hitting 7th and Nido is catching and batting 9th (as he normally would).

The Mets have a 1 game lead, which is enormous right now. Everything they needed to go right for them did on Wednesday regarding their dramatic win against the Marlins, thank to Mr. Escobar, and thanks to the Nats winning in extra innings against the Braves. Here are the scenarios the Mets need to win the division going into the start of this critical series:
-1 win gives the Mets the tiebreaker; so if the Mets then go on and sweep the Nats for the last series of the regular season, they win the division.
-2 wins means only 1 win is needed against the Nats after this series in order to win the N.L. East.
-A three game sweep in Atlanta would win the division.
-If the Mets get swept by the Braves in Atlanta, then they would need help from the Marlins against the Braves in Miami to win the division.

#LFGM!
weird they are going naquin > vogelbach? and no pinch runner. what are they waiting for with Gore?
Nice no show performance from the team tonight
I would have pinch hit Vogelbach for Alvarez earlier.
All tied up. 5 games to go.
I like the Mets but Go Braves...
They will sweep and the Mets will lose 2 out of 3 to the Nat
2nd inning 2 on, none out, 93.5 mph GIDP, but it did have an xba of .400. riley made a good reaction play. if i remember right he swung first pitch.
5th inning, none on, none out, 67 mph ground out. xba .180.
7th inning, man on 2nd, 2 out, 100 mph fly out. it never threatened the outfielder so they were positioned well because it did have an xba of .410, so not quite a can of corn.
9th inning, bases loaded, 1 out, strikeout vs. jansen. that was his worst AB of the game. 3 pitches, lost the bat swinging on strike 3.
overall his average exit velocity in the game was 87mph which isn't notable. it's a pretty similar debut to what we've seen so far from baty/vientos in their first weeks.
after being overly cautious to the border of insanity giving prospects a chance all year it's a little crazy to me that they threw a 20 year old into that spot last night.
i know im a broken record, but even if they didn't call up vientos pre-deadline (which they specifically should have to see what they had before making trades) in august when guillorme/escobar hit the DL and Ruf was doing nothing that was the obvious time to test what they had in both Baty and Vientos instead of the spots they kept wasting on Marrero/Sanchez who never played and had 0 chance of making the postseason roster. the injury obviously impacted things but Alvarez should have come up earlier in september, even if it was just 1 week earlier, when they were facing the last place teams and could have gotten some time as catcher just to get him every day at bats.
they squandered all those chances and instead threw a 20 year old into the biggest game of the year where he faced 4 all star pitchers and unsurprisingly went 0-4, making key outs in 2 rally's with less than 2O. and now i assume he will sit for a week and they will roll some dice to choose which of their RHH rookies to pinch hit against lefties and start against corbin.
they couldn't have managed themselves into a stupider corner then the one they find themselves in now.
How is everyone feeling about the way we end the season?
I am not very confident that they will rebound, I do think Max will bring it tonight like he always does.
I think Buck is in his own head and it's translating to the field with how tight this team seems to be playing.
I thought they turned a corner with the come back win against the Marlins but it seems only Escobar is playing loose right now.

I don't pin this all on Buck. The offense was spectacular for half a season then became extremely unreliable post ASG break. That's on everyone. There was no reason to be wound up tight in July.
Management was swelled up with pride at the product they had on the field, and instead of being aggressive (or proactive) they played everything safe and bet on DeGrom, Max, and Diaz to put a coat of paint on any weaknesses.
Vogelbach and Naquin were solid adds, Ruf was an absolute catastrophe, and so was addressing the bullpen. Plenty of us said at the time they needed more help.
They might still pull this out, but if they end up getting the Dodgers, all they're going to see is LHP starters and that is playing right into their weakness and the Dodgers' strength.
This loss is really on the players. Jake gave up three HRs and the hitters did nothing. Lindor again coming up small in big game.
You could argue you should have pinch hit Vogy for Alvarez. But I have no problem with him letting the kid hit, especially with the bases loaded. Alvarez drew a lot of walks in the minors and has a good eye.
Vogy should primarily pinch hit when there are two outs because anything on the ground is GIDP. That's what Buck was planning: Vogy for Nido. Unfortunately both Alvarez and Naquin struck out.
i do still question the wisdom of throwing a 20 year old into that spot when Vientos had been showing postive signs in his last few starts.
their general handling of all the kids this year to me is the most annoying they screwed up because it was 100% in their control to not screw it up. should have called up vientos in july, sent down JDD so they had an insurance option in addition to alvarez. also should have had baty in AAA sooner which may have helped him then adjust to MLB sooner when ready.
remember the braves called their guys up straight from AA in June. who knows where their season goes with that.
So question the farm and why they didnt have anyone ready
the braves called their guys up, let them play every day through their early adjustment periods which is the conventional thing to do, and eventually the talent came through. the mets haven't give their guys that chance. vientos is only at 34 plate appearances right now with the 2nd highest walk rate and highest average exit velocity on the team in that small sample.
I completely agree, BTW.
