This classic old spiritual came to mind in light of current events, and no one sang it better than Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who appears in this video somewhere in 1964 England at a train station, where it is indeed actually raining!
There was a BBI thread several years ago about Rosetta Tharpe. It's not a stretch to say that she is the true Godmother of Rock & Roll. She started strumming, strutting and bopping long before the British rockers of the '60s were scratching out a skiffle tune on an old beat-up dry guitar. She just lets it rip... and with attitude. She's got it all, including a full house voice infused with fire and brimstone straight out of the Old Testament.
Didn't it Rain!

For certain! Richard Wayne Penniman (aka Littel Richard) is the first name that comes to mind!
From wikipedia:
"...His father was a church deacon... His mother was a member of Macon's New Hope Baptist Church. His family was very religious and joined various A.M.E., Baptist, and Pentecostal churches, with some family members becoming ministers. He enjoyed the Pentecostal churches the most, because of their charismatic worship and live music..."
The term 'Rock and Roll' is a mix of sexual and spiritual connotation. "Rock Me Baby All Night Long" and "Roll, Jordan, Roll".
