NGT: Syracuse/Wagner - question

BlackLight : 10/1/2022 6:54 pm
I guess I don't watch enough college football. Syracuse is hosting Wagner (an FCS school). Cuse is up 49-0 at the half. Now I'm seeing the 3rd and 4th quarters are 10 minutes long instead of 15. When did this rule go into effect? Is it based purely on the score, or is it the score and the fact that Wagner is an FCS school?
Oh wow

I didn’t know college football had a mercy rule

This is a cash grab for Wagner.
I found the rule
cjac : 10/1/2022 7:02 pm : link
The NCAA rules state: "Any time during the game, the playing time of any remaining period or periods and the intermission between halves may be shortened by mutual agreement of the opposing head coaches and the referee."

I have never heard of that before. Thank you
I didn't realize that either - but here's the story

Looks like it must be by mutual agreement of the head coaches.
NCAA Mercy rule - ( New Window )
Wagner used to be a Div III
section125 : 10/1/2022 7:04 pm : link
school back in the 70s. They got to be a pretty decent Div III team and I guess they moved up the ranks like Fordham.

Small school on Staten Island. No business playing Syracuse.

And the 80s. They won the DIII National Championship in 1985. I coached with a few of that staff and players at tiny Upsala College in 1991

Yes, should have said 80's too.IIRC, they had a really, really good WR...think White was his name.

Based on the wording of the rule, I'm wondering if the game could've been called at halftime.

Hard to forget about Terry Underwood. Was the best running back in NCAA D3 during that era. Probably still holds records.

Spending life in prison for murdering his wife and unborn child.
Vegas must love that

Syracuse was -53
Rutgers beat them like 66-0 a few weeks ago

$$$$$$$$$$$
Both schools should be ashamed of themselves

Wagner is my school and it is an embarrassment.
robbieballs2003 : 10/2/2022 2:03 am : link
A bunch of old teammates are texting about it. The program is a shitshow now.

I will say that Graham and Fuller came from this program when I was there. We all know Graham. I will also say that Fuller was a phenomenal coach when there and didn't get the recognition he deserved while there. He has gone on to do some great things at Richmond and Florida St. I hope he continues to do well.

Not exactly sure why either team should be. Lots of Power Five conference schools schedule an FCS opponent each season, and this is the result you'd predict. And those FCS schools are only too happy to take the money and the ass-kicking that comes with it.

Oh, get out of here with that crap. Prior to last night, Syracuse had beaten 4 quality opponents in Louisville, Connecticut, Purdue, and Virginia. Far better football schools had already played plenty of hapless opponents already. Perennial powerhouse Alabama has already played Utah State and LA-Monroe.
Yes, games like this happen all the time
robbieballs2003 : 10/2/2022 7:52 am : link
and it is about the money. With that said, I don't remember the last time Wagner won a game.
Injuries

Would be the main concern on these kind of matchups
I hate to see Syracuse play

A team like Wagner. It’s a shame, cowardly. Play above your competition not below it.
