We had good news today in the Giants-Bears game, so hopefully things carry over into this game. The third and final game of this series starts in a little over an hour. It's the last chance for the Mets to exit this series the same way they entered it: in control of their destiny to win the division. The game will be on ESPN and is the game of the year up until this point for the Mets.
Lindor and McNeil are hitting 2nd and 3rd respectively. Pete's back at cleanup an Escobar is hitting behind him. McCann is catching and hitting 9th. Luis G is at 2B. Vogey's DHing again and hitting 6th. Wish Marte was here. The friggin Pirates may hav cost Marte the season if this keeps up. Bottom line: multiple players in the Mets' lineup need to step up tonight or their hopes for the division which they lead for almost all of this season are toast.
If the Braves win tonight, they can clinch the division tomorrow with a victory in Miami. Their magic number to win the division would be just one. Now if the Mets win the game tonight, their magic number would be 3 going into the last series of the season against the Nats at Citi. none of that matters though unless they win this game tonight. The other 5 MLB division raves have been decided. This one is at a tipping point tonight, one way or the other.

Too many good moments this year to say anything bad about them, I think you guys are just letting your frustration come out.
Moze, you're right. I'm just frustrated, disappointed and sad, that a great season has come down to this, but bottom line, I think you're right.
It sucks.
Was so excited after that comeback vs Marlins. None of us expected to come get swept...
But if we were told we'd win 98-101 games and get the top WC spot in March, we'd all sign up for that
Context is everything; they had a 10.5 game lead, so no we don’t feel good about not winning the division and settling for the WC.
Right which is why I'm telling you to take a step back and look at the big picture
I think point of post went over your head man
Nothing went over my head. Your post is a dumb one.
The big picture means nothing without context.
As to March expectations - i would have been VERY disappointed in getting only a WC. I expected them to win 95+ games and the division and get the 1 or 2 seed.
So IMO, getting WC and 4 seed is not that great.
Perhaps i was alone with my expectations, but I’m guessing not.
This. This series has been frustrating, but the Braves are really good. How can you not like this Mets team? They do have a black hole at DH, but they have a bunch of really good and really likable guys.

After the deadline, while the Mets went backwards, despite several individual record seasons.
Biggest payroll this year and still yet non competitive
Lol dude..non competitive??
This weekend, or rather this week, has been a dud
Series
Season series
Division
Braves
Haha, now THAT’S funny…
All of them can hit 20+ homers, including our TDA.
Scherzer - gave back a lead
JDG - gave back a lead
bassitt and canha haven't done much.
Alonso, McNeil, Escobar showed up and that was pretty much it.
McNeil just got another hit off Iglesias. Alonso up as tying run. Would be nice to see some fight here, still 3 innings left.

So you expected 95 wins, but ~100 is a disappointment? OK.
LOL, there is more to offense than BA. His SLG is 475 and OPS of 800; now THOSE are numbers to respect.

Did you read the rest of my comment? I expected a division title; THAT is the disappointment.

And his .240 batting average. Who would respect that bat?

LOL, I was trolling CooperDash for his comment about Olson yesterday. I definitely respect Olson as a dangerous slugger.
Olson had a .911 OPS and 39 homerun last year, too. Coming to a new team and league, facing a lot of pitchers he probably hasn't seen a lot of any of, he's great and going to get better.
Btw, Dansby Swanson also a FA at the end of the year as well. 3B option? I definitely feel Baty being a superstar and taking that job is the best thing for the Mets long-term.
they could have beat them once more. that would have done something. instead their best players no showed.
I really don't think he sucks. He's only struck out twice, has hit the ball hard at least a couple of times, and all the pitchers he's had to face so far are among the best in baseball. He's making contact and putting the ball in play at least. Really small sample.
Alvarez is going to be a stud. I have no doubt.

And he has a good eye. He took a couple of close pitches the last couple of ABs.
He probably needs 150 PAs to get going.
in other news:
Jeff McNeil this series: 7-for-12 (.583)
Rest of #Mets this series: 19-for-86 (.221)
im pretty sure escobar has the other 19 hits.
+1. The Braves played otherworldly baseball. Nothing you can do about that. The Mets played good ball, but the Braves played great ball.
Now it's a new beginning, you learn from your mistakes, and move on.
The F.O. made some mistakes, I think Buck made some mistakes, maybe individual players made some mistakes. You learn, you apply, you move ahead.
They could have won one game this weekend with their 3 best pitchers going...
It felt flat, middle of the season like. No sense of urgency, almost like they didn't care or recognize they were in a division title race.
Very odd (and typical Mets like frankly) ending to one of the franchise's best seasons.
+1 That was the crucial series. That series was the death knell of the year for the Mets. This series would have been meaningless, most probably.
I don't think he is a disappointment. He is just not an elite hitter. Never has been. He is a good but not great offensively.
But he is a very good all-around player. Excellent defensively. Good speed. Plays every day. Not constantly going to the DL.
As the announcers noted, his 127 WC+ this year is the second highest of his career. So Mets are basically getting what they signed up for.

Despite his 100 RBIs. Would take Dansby Swanson

Bullshit. If they made him play for his contract year they could have signed him for $100M+ less. Cohen wanted to make a point and he did, but he cost them a lot of $$$. Lindor is NOT a $340M player and we'll watch that over and over for the next 9 years.
Since it's unlikely he keeps beating his career best every year, it is inevitable he will decline from what he put up this year.
Now, I do think by the time the deal ends the contract will probably be middle of the pack as AAV's will explode in the years to come. So it's not the killer AAV some make it out to be.
And yes, going into a 3-game series vs the Braves needing one win to all but clinch the division and a bye... it's awful. The only thing that would've been worse would've been losing the division by getting swept by the Nationals. Much was made about that soft September schedule with all those cupcake teams, and the Mets went 12-9 vs the bottom feeders, highlighted by a series loss to the Nats to open the month and getting swept by the Cubs. 12-9 is not nearly good enough.
I hope now for a miracle bc this fantasy deserves it, and the Braves' fans are cocky twats that copied the Tomahawk chop from Florida State football fans. They suck.

That's a good point. But I still think Mets try to move him after 2024 because once he has 5 and 10 status, he can veto any trade. Since he will have seven years left on his contract that will greatly hamper their ability to maneuver.
If Mauricio continues to develop, I think he is Mets SS in 2025 not Lindor.
Fuck them hillbilly Barves fans. Go F a pig
Alas, we went gentle.
Is something good still possible? Tough to see it, right now.
See you guys in the wildcard round. Blah.
But my god have they took it to another level of disdain since last year.

Nice to see someone quote a great poet like Dylan Thomas.

I lived in Atlanta for two years and went to about 20 games. Most of them were Mets games.
Fans were always well mannered. Good-natured ribbing but nothing more. No belligerence.
So I have to disagree about their fans being detestable.
