I didn’t think enough has been said about Mike Kafka

JohnB : 10/3/2022 7:31 am
Yesterday, he had no quarterback for 5+ minutes and, in the past, our coaches wouldn’t have a clue as to what to do. He pulled something out and made it work, dialing up the right plays to keep the clock running when everyone knew they weren’t passing the ball. Excellent job to close the game.
Mentioned it earlier

in past years when trying to run out the clock they would run 3 times up the gut and gain about 2 feet. This year they are gaining first downs to run out the clock. It's good to have some real football again instead of that dreck we were subjected to just last year.

I said it was a huge test for Kafka yesterday. Winnable game at home against an inferior opponent but one that could get away from you if you went away from the plan early. He passed with flying colors.
It is so much more than that but this was just one of many things.

When Judge was here he kept talking about being multiple. I never saw it. It was all lip service. Kadka and Daboll get it. They are adapting to what we have and how to attack a defense. Getting Jones on the move and running boots that are well designed made a ton of sense. By the way, Jones' fakes were outstanding yesterday.

I am not sure if you guys remember the announcer saying that the WR away from the boot should have dragged across the field to give Jones another option. While that is technically true, think about what the Giants are trying to accomplish. They want to give Jones a run pass option. The more receivers you bring over, the more defenders come over, the less room there is to run. I really think the Giantz kept the WR running a vertical to occupy both the corner and safety on the opposite side of the field so that Jones has more room to run if need be. Just because there are traditional ways of doing things doesn't mean it is what is best for us right now. We had a simple game plan and it was executed perfectly. I also like that this staff will stick with something if it keeps working.

Totally agree. I was thinking the same thing when the commentator made that statement. They wanted that whole side of the field nearly empty and it was.
starting with the fact that they
LG in NYC : 10/3/2022 7:52 am : link
designed an opponent-specific game plan (run, boot heavy)

Never seemed to see this in the past decade +...

Belicheck-esque.
They didn’t flinch because they’d prepared it

It’s been a series they’ve been working on since camp. No surprises. They whiteboarded it when it was time to bring it out and we’re confident it would work. This is what happens when you experiment in camp - when conservative mindsets don’t dominate. Smart aggressive offensive mentality that works. This coaching staff has gotten a lot out of this team
This team knows what it is.

Can't throw it. Only chance is to run/smash em and use playaction.

Play good defense and special teams.

Comes to crunch time and we gotta make a play, make a play.

Like old school Giants football in a way.

Don't expect us to hang with the big boys but could be fun to watch at least unless the injuries continue.
pardon the poor grammar

Daboll

I don't want to take anything away from Kafka he has been excellent ... Daboll was drawing stuff up on a grease board on the sideline also once we had no QBs

With Wink, Kafka and Daboll we are in great hands!!!
I can't wait to see what this group of coaches can do
Heisenberg : 10/3/2022 8:19 am : link
with a better than average NFL roster
It’s more than what they did without any QBs

It’s the overall game planning and vision about how to deal with our talent or lack thereof. They have a plan. Even in the loss to Dallas they had enough to keep it close. I think there was a lot of that going on last year but you can see the difference between planning and failing and planning and getting something positive from it.

Agree. He did a good job. Some thought he was conservative but with the depth issues on D and all the injuries possessing the ball was important and they did that. Chicago was starting to make some gains early in the second half and the Giants put together a nice 6 plus minute drive for a FG.

The quality of coaching this year is a clear step up from what we've seen with the prior post-Coughlin regimes.

You can see they're getting the most out of a limited group.

We don't have the horses to compete with the heavyweights right now, we're short on talent, but once we get more of those players, this should be a really good team.
I was so impressed with the execution yesterday

of the offense when Taylor went down. It was like "no big deal, we have prepared for this and we have a plan." The execution just showed that this was something that the coach staff prepared for. I cannot think of a better look for our coaching staff than the offense in the last five minutes of the game.
It helps to have a running back that

went from the ranked like 20th in the league to the best one in the NFL.
